Whenever both IA & Auror kit are installed and I select Auror kit at creation. I get a CTD as soon as the start area begins to load.
Remove either mod and it goes away.

See my ramblings and testing on it here: http://www.shsforums...213#entry540213

Did a little further investigation. dropped all extra animations from content & restore directories and ran only the main component & the forced cre-checker. When selecting the Auror kit the game crashes as soon as the character is to be created.

There is no rhyme or reason for this as there is no change in Auror kit that deals with animations.

I wonder if my game install might be messed up. Ever since testing with Tobex (and it's been uninstalled) it crashes on exit.

Well, that could explain the problems. I have not heard of this kit, and am not sure if I'll have time to look at it, but could you give a concise summary of the exact issue and provide a link to the kit in case I do get the time.

funny thing is after I posted that about Tobex... that particular install stopped crashing on exit. However every other install that does have Tobex, still crashes on exit. Even Tobex by itself cause the game to crash on exit. It's the Tobex that comes with the BWS beta tool. I think its the beta 22 version...

But doesn't change the fact that on a clean install, IA (any combination of packages & components) in conjunction with Auror kit will cause a CTD when the PC's avatar is created on screen with the Auror kit selected. For some reason in this particular case the PC's foot circle is enlarged and there is no animation.
The weirdest thing tho is that before that started happening I had actually been able to make and export a character with the Auror kit in a heavy modded game, but then on subsequent reloads -- always crashed.

Thus I went to a clean install and tried combinations of Tobex, IA & Auror. Boiled down to only when IA & Auror kit were together that it would crash in the manner described above.

I can check again. scrap the install, recopy the original unmodified, redownload IA and all it's packages as well as Auror kit, see what happens.

The only thing I can think of offhand is that that kit patches the .exe in some way that is incompatible with what IA does, but that is extremely unlikely. But I would need a link to look at in anyway, though you doubtless are in a better position and know more about it than I do.

Auror kit does not noticeably patch the .exe in any way
Auror kit is in the misc. mods section
http://www.shsforums...e-ranger-class/

If you read the ramblings of the thread I linked in the first post you'll see my confusion and frustration as to why it was happening and then my process of elimination to narrow down the two things that didn't work together....

but like I said, I can try again on a completely clean install...

Here is my detailed report of trying it again...
  • wiped the old install,
  • copied clean original install,
  • adjusted baldur.ini to point to new location and added debug mode & logging options
  • Started a ToB game, no problems -- to lazy to go thru the cutscenes of SoA
  • downloaded IA core only (no animations)
  • downloaded Auror kit
  • Installed IA core only main component & the forced cre validity
  • started a ToB game, everything seemed to be ok
  • Installed Auror kit
  • Started a ToB game, used same imported thief and everything seemed ok
  • Started a ToB game, created a character to use Auror kit, and crash upon loading the game screen.
  • PC had an extra large foot circle and no animation

Figured out what is causing the crash.

Auror kit has an effect in two of it's kit abilities.
This is how it appears with IA installed as reported by NI when selecting the kit spell auspcl14.spl and highlighting the 1 ability.
Effect: Type: Animation change (53),Target: Preset target (2),Power: 0,Morph into: Unknown - 21009,
checking the unmodified ToB
MAGE_FEMALE_ELF_LOW - 21009
IA removes the LOW animations and uses those entries for other things.

auspcl14.spl and auspcl15.spl both have an animation morph. Perhaps in this case, Auror should be recommended to be installed prior and IA change the animation morph to the non LOW version if it is present.

Yeah, I can add that to the next release. I grepped and changed this sort of things for all known mods in previous releases, but this wasn't a mod I ever knew about (if I ever did see the post, I probably ignored it immediately due to the "horribly broken" and "unbalanced and too powered" reviews of it). If the author still maintains it (doubtful), s/he could also change MAGE_FEMALE_ELF_LOW to MAGE_FEMALE_ELF, as there is no difference between those in unmodded BG2.
