I just tried to download the latest BGT-WeiDu, and get an error that "Firefox can't find the server at dl.spellholdstudios.net."

Some other recently posted file had a download address of downloads.spellholdstudios.net. I tried changing dl to downloads in the above address, and end up with a server error.

Not sure who to ask about how this should be fixed.

The latest version of BGT-Weidu isn't being hosted at Spellhold Studios at the moment for some reason. The post where you can find it and download it is here:
http://www.shsforums...du-version-114/

Version 114 is what you want!

You'll need to supply your own setup-bgt.exe though. Download the latest version of weidu from here and rename weidu.exe to setup-bgt.exe. Put it in your BGII directory together with the bgt folder from Enkida's link.

Thanks for the help, Perhaps I'll get it installed today, yet :) Then I have to dig up my old character portrait.

Um, question, do I need any patches before installing this?

edit: about patches

For official patches, you need TOTSC 5512 for BG1. Optionally, you can use the DirectX 8 patch (5521), but it's not going to make much of a difference. If you are using The Original Saga and/or the GOG.com version, you don't need to patch it. BG2 - best to have TOB with patch 26498 - NOT 26499!!!!. Again, no patching if GOG.com.

Unoffical patches, I recommend that you install BG2 Fixpack, and do not patch BG1 with any of the fan-made patches (Baldurdash, Dudleyville, Sasha's in-progress fixpack).

Oh, and links:

At this point, I'm not really doing much Baldur's Gate related. More focused on Skyrim modding and the Born of Legend tabletop roleplaying game. Don't expect much activity here.

I would recommend installing the BG2 Fixpack before you install BGT.

Um, that's not BGT, it's BWP. Or can you just have it install BGT and nothing else?

hook71: Even for the gog.com versions of the two games (and do I need the BG1 Fixpack as well)?

Are you referring to my sig? That's just for BWP installations - a manual BGT installation should be pretty easy, as long as you follow directions.

No offical patches are needed for the GOG versions of the game, through you need the BG2 fixpack. And very important:

DO NOT USE ANY FAN-MADE BG1 FIXPACKS IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO INSTALL BGT!!!!!! I cannot stress this more. Using a BG1 fixpack will most likely screw up the whole BGT installation, as BGT expects BG1 with just the official patches (no Baldurdash, no Dudleyville, and not Sasha's fixpack). If you are playing BG1 by itself (which you will probally not do), use them. Installing BGT or Tutu? DO NOT USE FAN MADE FIXPACKS!!!

William Imm:

Sorry, somehow when trying to read this after refreshing, it looked like you had a post stating that I should use an attached installer, and the only "attachment" I could find was in your sig. Now I can't even find the post, so, I can't tell you what I was looking at. I can only assume it got edited.

At any rate, going back to the renamed WeiDu installer, BG1 (GOG), BG2 (GOG) and that BG2 Fixpack. There was a time when I was looking to do something like Big World, but no longer. It's getting too hard to find some of the requisite mods. Too bad, I would have loved to have an immense game I could play for the next 5 years and never do all the quests.

Okay, I installed BG1 and BG1 from GOG.com in C:\BGT, then installed the BG2 Fixpack, then using the renamed WeiDu installer, installed BGT. I found my custom character portraits, placed them in BG2\Portraits, and when I try to start a new game (Baldur's Gate), and choose a custom portrait, none show up in the list.

You are confusing me with where you installed BG1 and BG2. Did you install both games into the same folder (which is very bad and what you should not do), or did you install BG1 into C:\BGT\BG1 and BG2 into C:\BGT\BG2? I hope you did the latter...
