I find your judgement rather unfair, as you seem to be taking into account only a small part of the team's work.  Adding NPCs and a challenge is part of the Enhanced Edition, but you seem to be forgetting all the work that goes into the new visuals.  Freshening up the movies, for example, can go a long way.

Also, complaining here won't get you very far, as we have absolutely no impact on the game.  :D

It's very liberating to complain, though. I have a huge graffiti on one of the buildings next to Japanese embassy on the way to work, and I complain about it each time we pass it - it's a running joke of sorts.

Anyway, I'm in the camp that says they should've made the NPCs and the quests optional. Let the "good old BG" fans enjoy their favourite game the way it was written, and new energetic fans - enjoy new voiced NPCs out of the box.

I see your point, Kulyok, but at that point, what you describe is more ranting than contructive criticism.

As for making the NPCs and quests optional, I understand what you said that, but I was under the impression that you were under no obligation whatsoever to pick up the NPCs and/or do the quests.  Perhaps I'm wrong on that count?  (I have the BGEE, it's just been neglected due to the pile)

You absolutely don't need to play any of the new content. :) In fact, apart from one or two scenes, you can avoid it altogether if you so choose.

See?  :D  Totally optional!!!

I'll play BGEE some day, I swear...  But I have a pile problem...

The new content rules, though. Especially in BG2EE. Or so I've heard, anyway.

Is it only me or Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition is live on steam?

Also I really like how the bug count is already soaring through the sky, and it includes such gems as:

- not getting the XP for dropping the dog stew

- gigantic memory leaks

- broken multiclass and dualclass display which is kind of a feat since you get one of each in the starting dungeon

Also if half the thing I've heard about Hexxat are true then it's either Saerileth-level moronic or a skillful use of irony. Somehow I don't think it's the latter :(

Learned that Hexxat is apparently romanceable. Way to go, Beamdog. Clearly what Baldur's Gate 2 needed in an Enhanced Edition was necrophilia.

You can blame me -- at least in part -- for that. ;) I wrote a lot of that romance.

Kae, seriously. That is so profoundly wrong on so many levels...

Many people feel the same way about the lesbian side of things. :) In a contemporary cultural context, with the abundance of vampires in pop-culture and vampires as they are in FR -- I don't have a problem with it. In FR, vampires are sentient creatures in their own right. There are no issues regarding consent, for example. If it was the PC having sex with an inanimate corpse, I might have an issue with it, but this is a little different.

No. No, it is not. Vampires are corpses animated by negative energy. They are marginally more hygienic zombies that carry an echo of a living person's mind and memories. They are undead, and romancing one is profoundly messed up.

Hexxat is a little... different to your usual vampire fare, let me put it that way. I'll stop flooding the topic with pro-BGII:EE propaganda at this point, though, sorry. :D

A vampire is a vampire. Vampires are undead. Thank you for establishing that I will never purchase BG2EE, however.

I think making Hexxat romanceable was a great move, to the 7th circle with the haters :) Its a game, lets not be prudes.

This being said, I'll be waiting on substantial patching and modding compatibility before I snatch BG2EE. I brought BGEE and been waiting on BG1NPC to get into it... this time, I'm waiting till all the must-have mods are functional (including BG1NPC) and until patches have ironed out the kinks.

In the long run, maybe a year from now, Baldurs Gate will have benefitted alot from all the new code possibilities and interface improvements, etc. And the possibility seems high that Beamdog might release extra content/DLC/expansions on top of their work so far.

Adding an extra female romance is all well and good, and but us men lovers have been getting the short end of that stick since vanilla BG2!!  :D  Does BG2EE add a male romanceable character?

Sure does! Two, as a matter of fact :) One evil, and one good.
