They are always developing the next edition. I really hope it'll be more like 4e than 3/3.5e, though!

My response is a resounding meh. I'm still very happy with 3.5E and find it's everything I desire out of DnD.

Is it just me, or did 4.0 not last very long? I tried to pretend it didn't exist until last year, so my perception could be off.

It wasn't around that long, I think about 4-5 years.
That said, it was a marketing flop for most part, I think, or just poorly timed with bad ongoing events (ie the Attack of MMORPGs)
