Hi.. is there a mod that works with BWP that adds new races? Specifically I wanna make Imoen a Tiefling.. and Viconia a true drow. (And if I can add the tiefling animation from planescape for Imoen, the animation Annah uses) Is there anyone that would know how to do this?

On a side note, if there IS a existing mod could you tell me what it is.. and if its a expert mod.. what edits would I have to make (If it were the only expert mod I used) to make it work?

Thanks for any help :)

As far as I know there is no such mod (probably)...however TDD adds some sort of sub classes like drow warrior so it will give you benefits of ...well being a drow I suppose :)
True drow?? What is that :) Isn't lovely Viconia true drow anyway ?? (a bit of an exile but still ;) )

You can change your characters race, alignment and ton of many other things using this simple to use tool Shadowkeeper

;)

Hi, thanks.. By "True Drow" I ment with all the actual drow benefits and side affect.. according to the D&D rules. Also a actual tiefling race.. with the D&D rules for it. I think I saw a mod that does just that, but not sure its a BWP mod.. (It may be a BP mod) but I cant remember where I saw it or what it was called. :(

PS.. I know of ShadowKeeper.. I always use it to make one cheat.. I set all base movement to 5 for all my people, as I hate how slow it takes to move around.. (Im not that patient lol)

Also I use it to make the NPCs the class I want.. (but I remove all there stats.. spells.. set hit points to 1, profs.. etc.. and make them 0 level and give them 2 exp (to raise them to level one, as I like raising them on my own from first level in there new class..) that way (from 0-1) it gives them the correct abilities, and then I make a final edit to remove the one hit point, that way I have a accurate class change..

I make Imoen a Fighter/thief

I make the fighter/druid chick that you meet in friendly arms inn in BGI (I can never remember her name) a wild mage.

I make Viconia CG alignment (I like all my people to get along.. shes the only evil chr I take.. shes too fun to not have) and make her a specialized (kit) cleric.

I give minsc (hes too essentially and fun to the game) a specialized ranger kit.

Ive been taking Kvian(sp?) as hes really good, but I dont like him.. (I realy want a kensi here.. but there are none in both games) and I like to stick with all the same chrs in all BGT as I get attached to them with all the time I spend building them up.

EDIT: I know I saw a mod that did this on this site, I just cant remember where or what it was called.

Maybe Level1NPCs?

Hi, Ive seen that mod and its really cool :) but I dont think it adds new races or allows alignment change.. That is a cool mod though.. I dont use it because shadowkeeper does that.. not as good as that mod does.. but allows me to change alignments and things that mods doesn't.. but it is cool that it allows NPCs to restart as you want.. allot of setup to that mod install though (as Ive tried it)

There was a mod somewhere that added all the sub race categories. (like all the elves types, same with dwarfs and all races.. it also added tiefling and a ton of other races..)

Thats the mod Im looking for..

Drow lose their racial abilities once they've spent too much time on the surface, which is why Viconia doesn't have any, so lore-wise that wouldn't make much sense.

Yes that is true (unless they have the "ring of the drow" read the Daughter of the Drow series (a FR series), Liriel Baenre had a item that allowed her to keep her drow powers on the surface, she latter scribed a ruin into a life tree to make them permenent and didnt need the item.. (I cant remember if it was a ring.. but did same thing as the "Ring of the Drow" in BGT now) in BGT that ring of the drow, I was gonna use that item to justify the drow abilities, (as I like haveing lore correct chrs) you sir are 100% correct though on your observations :) but to be honest, Im more hoping to have a tiefling race :) (Drow was just a bonus.. if it existed) I really just want a tiefling.. they were always my favorite race :) Plus I know I saw a mod that added all this somewhere.

Thats the mod Im looking for..

You mean this subrace mod?

Problems:
Overwrites .ids files with its own versions if it doesn't find them in the override folder. Can cause all sorts of havoc/major game breakage if installed on top of a finished BWP.
Modifies Newgame.bcs which means you'll only get your subrace in the BG2 part.

Then there's also FinnJO's subrace mod in the same forum which is preferrable.

No .ids problems. It modifies Baldur.bcs and Baldur25.bcs in order to assign subraces. That means, that you're able to start in BG1 with your subrace character. Some obvious candidates get a subrace (Viconia - drow etc.), check the readme for more information.
Don't install alternate subraces for NPCs as it simply overwrites existing files, which will cause problems.

Has this mod gotten much play? Even the forum doesn't show activity.

BWP doesn't throw in a mod unless it has some history and testing. Or does it?

can someone answer my question about weather I should add this before or after a BWP install.. as its not a BWP mod on the list?

I suggest before BWP, as you want to see how it installs. Then, if you have some time, play a vanilla game for a bit of time just to see how it operates.

A big question is-- install before or after BG2fixpack? You can present the question on the forum, or just test it yourself by installing BG2fixpack over it, and playtest.

Just to remind you: If it will make things any easier for you then I can make this into a WeiDU mod and put this under "Mod Resurections". I just need to contact the origional author first before I do so.

(Note: For some reason the security filter on the cruise internet thinks that CoM is malicious...)

EDIT: I would move anything not WeiDU that overwrites dialog.tlk before fixpack/TobEX. Does this mod do so?

Edited by William Imm, 04 January 2012 - 03:24 AM.

At this point, I'm not really doing much Baldur's Gate related. More focused on Skyrim modding and the Born of Legend tabletop roleplaying game. Don't expect much activity here.

Drow lose their racial abilities once they've spent too much time on the surface, which is why Viconia doesn't have any, so lore-wise that wouldn't make much sense.

So the fact that the only Drow NPC in the games has 50% magic resistance is not a lore-wise significant fact ? :whistling: And the resistance doesn't come from a kit nor other source...

Lore-wise though, the fact that the Drow loose their racial abilities outside their Underdark hubs has more to do with how they live, and not the fact that they are destined to lose them after certain period of time ... say the Drow gain the ability from food or some other source, just like you gain energy from yours, that source cannot be found anymore... so they loose the abilities.

@William Imm
It is a WeiDU mod. Which doesn't mean that it doesn't overwrite stuff.
Nowadays it's almost always patching, safe a few cases were it's preferrable to overwrite (item revisions, spell revisions).

@Shadowtek
Took a second look, I'd go with an install before the fixpack. That's because it copies its own action.ids and StatDesc.2da if they're not in the override. While BG2 Fixpack doesn't touch action.ids, it patches StatDesc.2da.

Hi, the mod does work as it says.. it is NOT recommended for BWP install.. at least not yet.. as it has a wierd graphic glich that shows the race name using wide screen on the chr sheet page in the black area.. (off the main screen) though this doesnt affect the game, nor is it a issue, it makes it not at the standard of current BWP mods.. unless people dont mind this glitch. Also as per the read me:

*************
*KNOWN BUGS:*
*************

There is actually only one known bug at the moment, but if you run in to any others please
let me know!

- If a svirfneblin or a drow characters level is raised when dayblind, his/hers THAC0 and
saves will be raised of their normal values after going out of the sun. This change
however last only till next level up, because the game sets the characters THAC0 and saves
to certain value determined by his/hers level (which actually causes the bug in the first
place). So every time you'r drow or svirfneblin character has enough XP to level up, make
sure your character ain't dayblind while doing so (otherwise you're cheating!!! heh...).

Until this bug is fixed, it should probable not be added as official BWP install..

Unless of course players follow what it says above..

Theres a update that does just that.. removes drow abilities in time until they return to the underdark and spend some time there...

From the update:

-------------------------------------------------------------
Welverine (from readme):
Drow:
Male: +1 Dex +1 Int -2 Cha
Female: +1 Dex +1 Int +2 Cha
Both:
50% magic resistance on first level which increases by +2% on every level to maximum 80%.

Innate abilities: 2xFaerie Fire 2xDarkness. On 4th level drow can cast 2xLevitate 2xKnow

Alignment. On 4th level drow priests receive 2xKnow Alignment 1xClairvoyance 1xSuggestion

1xDispel Magic and 1xLevitate.
-4 to party reputation.

Bright light (sun light) causes the drow to suffer: -2 Dex, -2 Thac0, -2 to all saves while in daylight and blindness for one round.

If the drow spends more than two weeks (changed to 3 days in Beiht fix) away from the

subterranean caverns of the Underdark, the special advantages fade at the rate of one power a day. This process can be halted and the powers regained if the drow returns to the Underdark and spends enough time there.

Immunity to sleep- and charm- related spells.
Requires 20% more experience points to level-up.

The link is Here but I cant seem to find those updates, as I do want the Drow to be accurate.. though having a ring of the drow would negate the above loss of powers.. but without one a drow would in fact loss all there powers unless they do as above.. would make the drow race accurate and funner to play..

Anyway.. the mod work as it says it does with the exceptions posted above, those should probably be fixed before adding to BWP install.. but in anycase.. thats what Ive seen so far..

It will work if you install it first before starting the BWP install.. and it is a cool ass mod, I wouldn't play without it... One thing you should know.. after you make your chr.. (choosing from default races) after you start in candledeep.. then you will be asked what sub race you want to be.. the mod claims that you can install it last, and that it wont affect your save game.. it will just be added.. but I havent tested that..

I can say that installing it first works as I said above, and all abilities of the sub race are added, including the NPC changes it makes with no problem.. it works as it says.. But I would suggest.. to be sure.. pick a race like human that has no bonuses or penalties to start, then when you change in candledeep, you will know your ok.. Though this is pure speculation on my part..

If you guys can update this mod (and I will try to get a hold of the original author for permission) to fix the small.. issues with this mod.. that will be great, I will try and contact the guy that added that addon as well (see above).. and with his permission, I'll post it here so a true sub race mod can be created...

It would be a terrible shame if a mod as good as this was not added officially... a ton of work was done and it works well.. it just needs a few fixes.. I will try and get permission from all parties involved.. if I get them I'll post a screenshot of the e-mail saying so..

ST

EDIT: Requests sent..

EDIT2: I asked for this site to have permission to fix this mod and make it BWP compatible.. will report response as soon as I get one...
