Hi, in my last BWP install some mod made all plate armor unusable by adding a dex penalty of 85% or more, now this may be PnP rules, but it doesnt work with a video game, was this the Item Revision mod that did this? I ask as if it is I dont want it.. as PnP rules are fine in a PnP game, but dont work in a video game..

Hey Tek, yikes that's a nasty penalty ><. If you look at page 50 of the BiG World 10.3.1.pdf, the item revision mod does indeed talk about dexterity and speed factor penalties when under heavy armor encumbrance. I'd be willing to wager that it's a yes :( .

Item Revisions indeed give a DEX-penalty, but for plate mail it is 10% (15% for FPA), and that is pretty balanced. If you get 85%, something wonky is going on (with another mod?).

Ok thanks, I did not install that mod.. (on my new latest install) it looks cool, but I dont like the penalties. Thanks for responding to me :) Yeah its possible I had two mods that may have done duplicate things.

I have been doing a ton of BWP installs to see the various affect to help me on a new install thread Im working on.. Thanks!!

No problem :)

I'd like to say though, that you miss out on one of the very best mods for BG(2) if you skip IR (same goes for SR, IMO). If you don't like any penalties at all, just skip those components. The selling point of IR is the mindboggling amount of time and effort put into fixing, rebalancing and revising pretty much all (combat) items in the game.

For example (most of this reflects v2, v3 is in beta and will be out soon): Item index.

Yes, it looks very cool :) I just have to figure out where the conflict was with another mod as almost all armor wiped out dex.

In my new BWP install.. I added this cool mod :) I removed two mods I had installed.. making a wild guess as to the conflict.. I removed the mod Forgotten Realms Item adjustments. and PnP D&D item changes.. I have no idea which do what.. but now the Item Revision mod works just fine :) Eventually I'll find out for sure where the conflict was so I can add it to the conflict section of my guide.

Hi ShadowTek.

Thanks for the comments on the effect of Forgotten Realms Item adjustments and/or PnP D&D item changes.

Is it possible you have misinterpreted the numbers? I have and have seen several armor items that adjust your DEX. I have seen numbers like 80%, 85%, and even 90%. When a character in my game with 18 DEX puts on armor with an 85% DEX adjustment, the DEX drops to 15 (85% of 18 is 15.3). I got the impression from your posts that you believe an 85% DEX adjustment drops the DEX to 3.

The reason I caught onto this was that I found an item with a negative DEX adjustment. I did not check the DEX change with that item and I cannot locate it right now. So I assume that positive numbers are a percent of the actual DEX and negative numbers are subtracted from the DEX. I need to check on this, but I was wondering if that was your experience with your game?

This confusion may be a result of modders not being consistent with the way the original game was written.

Within IR the "Dexterity Penalty: 85%" does mean that DEX is reduced to 85% of it's real value. It's been such since v2 (or even v1?).
If that causes confusion - I'm inclined to agree that it might, - the template can be changed to less ambiguous form, either "Dexterity Penalty: -15%" or "Dexterity: reduced to 85%". If there're other suggestions, go ahead and share them.

FP&PS reduces DEX by a value, not percentage.

Hi, yes any of those comments could be correct.. I'll have to make a new test install to test out.. you guys may in fact be correct. I didn't actually check as I saw the 85% penalty and thought I had a FUBAR install.. but I will actually investigate this and report here what I find.. as I don't ever wanna say that some mods may be incompatible when they in fact are.

I would go for "Dexterity: reduced to 85%

:)

Wouldn't that create a "problem" with multiple reductions? Say a helmet, plate mail and a shield (arbitrary items and numbers):
Helmet, Dexterity Penalty: -5%
Plate Mail, Dexterity Penalty: -15%
Shield, Dexterity Penalty: -10%
compared to
Helmet: Dexterity reduced to 85%
Plate Mail: Dexterity reduced to 90%
Helmet: Dexterity reduced to 95%

I know on which variant I find it easier to do the math the final DEX is decidedly more obvious.

Hmm, but what's a negative penalty ... it's actually a bonus ! :P :P :P

You could interpret it like that ;) But no, Penalty and - (minus) or Bonus and + (plus) is what IR uses all the time IIRC. In either case, just read it like it's a description first: "DEX Penalty" and then the actual effect: "-x%".

Good try though! :P

Then I vote for "Dexterity Bonus/Penalty" with "+"es and "-"es everywhere :)

Wondering something about this mod - is the mod working correctly when it makes my fighters unable to use most weapons(even though the weapon only has str requirment in description)?

The NPC Keldorn goes from 9 to 5 dex, and he's  unable to use most of the 1-handeds I have... Have similiar problem with Amoen (he has to use leather to weild a sword...)
