Hi guys,

I intend to make a custom mega-mod install and I was wondering if I could use the weidu Ascension (v1.4.24) in my install. I know that the weidu Ascension should be installed before the BG2 Fixpack, but should I install it before or after the TobEx (Beta 0021)? (I am using the BWP .pdf guide for the install order).

My intention initially, was to install together the BP with SCS I and II, but after reading some topics here and in the G3 forums warning for incompatibility, I decided to go with the original Ascension + SCS + Tactics (some components).

Btw, has anyone fully tested the BP with SCS for compatibility? Some reports indicate compatibility issues (i.e. a bug in the Illasera battle), but if there are no other bugs/problems maybe I should ''risk'' a BP-SCS combination?

Download a copy of BiG World v 10.3.1 PDF. It documents the best order to install mods and their components. It is easy to follow.

Thanks, but I am already using the BWP pdf guide.

So, can anyone tell me if I can safely use the weidu Ascension (v1.4.24) instead of the BP? I assume that I have to install it after TobEx (Beta 0021) and before the BG2 Fixpack?

Why ? I wouldn't go and say you could...
The latest BP-Asc component is better in compatibility than the original. And it has been tested more...

but after reading some topics here and in the G3 forums warning for incompatibility,

Actually, DavidW has not tested the BP... but has tested the original... but that's only because the original was there before and he has not had the time to... but there has been other people that have tested the BP's Ascension component with SCSII without the BP AI ! And that's exactly what you want !

This is fairly situation-dependent. If you mean "tested more in mega-mod installs" I'm happy to take your word for it. It's probably not true for smaller installs (e.g. most Ascension+SCS runs I'm aware of use Ascension-Weidu).

Because I want to use SCS I and II in my install. From the SCS II Readme:

...However, a number of reports suggest that SCS II is not compatible with "BP-Ascension", the version of Ascension that ships with the Big Picture. I recommend that you use the standard WEIDU version of Ascension (at www.weidu.org) with SCS II. (Users constructing a Big World Project mega-install should probably take advice from www.shsforums.net on the best strategy.

Besides the BWP .pdf does not seem to recommend a combination of the BP with SCSs:

If you install both of them, SCS will rewrite some scripts that are already replaced by BP before and you may get unexpected results. Currently obviously the simplest choice would be to install only one of them.

Anyway, as I said, if there was more feedback from players that use both mods, I could risk a BP-SCS combination. But as it is now I am not sure if it is a good idea.

Are you looking for a game without any bugs then the whole BWP is not a good idea. If you really feel you must install a Mega Mod (like I do) then my best advice is to fallow the BWP guide.

That quote doesn't separate if the basic BP AI (the first component)was used or not !

Yes, but if you don't use the core BP AI, you cannot install the following components from the Ascension mod:

From the BWP .pdf:
...
Install Component 17 [Improved Demogorgon]? [I]nstall
This component requires ?Big Picture AI/Enhancement Mod? component to be installed
Install Component 18 [Improved Gromnir]? [I]nstall
This component requires ?Big Picture AI/Enhancement Mod? component to be installed
This component is also included with SCSII. Only install one of them.
Install Component 19 [Improved Illasera]? [I]nstall
This component requires ?Big Picture AI/Enhancement Mod? component to be installed
This component is also included with SCSII. Only install one of them.
Install Component 20 [Improved Yaga-Shura]? [I]nstall
This component requires ?Big Picture AI/Enhancement Mod? component to be installed
This component is also included with SCSII. Only install one of them.

And I really prefer those components to the SCSII counterparts.

I don't mind the occasional bug and anyway I never had a 100% bug-free game even in my previous installs, pre-BWP (20-30 mods).

My problem now, as I see it, is that the BWP essentialy asks you to make a choice between Ascension and SCS. And since these, along with Tactics, are my favourite mods from BG, it's not an easy choice.

I haven't tested it myself, but I've looked at the code a bit after seeing reports of compatibility problems. As I recall (it was a while ago), BP-Ascension (even without the BP-AI component) makes some content changes to Ascension which clash with bits of SCSII.

Incidentally, SCSII ships with ToBEx v21, so you probably don't need to install it separately. (Not that it will do any harm if you do.)
