Yay, Xan romance! This is going to be tragic and wonderful.

Also, 2. Better not to stop in the middle of everything for several days of travel if you don't have to.

Well, the votes are in:
How should we deal with the dead in our party now that we have access to instant resurrection via the Vault Keeper?

1. Keep things the same ...........
2. Raise but still Rest ...............
3. Vote each time .

Looks like we're going to be resurrecting people immediately when they die, but then kicking them out at the first opportunity.

BWP20130531001.jpg

8 Flamerule, 1370

Well, we're back in town now.

BWP20130531002.jpg

It has been several long months of trekking around the Sword Coast. I think it's time to stick around here for a while. Check things out in the city. Tell Entar Silvershield his son is dead.

BWP20130531003.jpg

But Entar remembers us, still!

BWP20130531004.jpg

We run away upstairs. For some reason I feel like someone should be told. I'd want Imoen to know if I ever died...

BWP20130531005.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Madam, I bring gave news. In my travels, I came across a raided caravan... and the body of a young man, dressed in Silvershield colors. The bandits who killed him had this clasp.

Brilla.jpeg Then Eddard is dead? That is grievous news. Give me that pin - I shall keep it in memory of my dear, dear step-son...

Gameplay note: We get 1500 xp for that.

We look for an alternative way out, and end up in some young woman's room.

BWP20130531006.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We're house cleaners.

Skie.jpeg Help! The estate is under attack! Help!

Guards immediately show up in the room. Crap!

BWP20130531007.jpg

Thankfully I have another Invisibility Sphere ready, and we disappear at the last second!

BWP20130531008.jpg

The Silvershields really do not like visitors, do they?

BWP20130531009.jpg

Not even the gardener likes us!

BWP20130531010.jpg

52ZfP.jpg I care not for the feelings of your petty surface liege. I walk where I wish.

gardener.jpg Gah! Cads and bounders! Have ye no appreciation for how much toil a garden can be?!

Cads and bounders! Haha! I wish I would have heard that phrase earlier, I might have named us all that, instead of the Golden Company.

Then I remember another thing that I was going to do, before I got sidetracked with all that adventuring outside the city. I was going to help that paladin guy find a little girl's parents. A little girl he had killed, wasn't it? I was looking for a house near the entrance to the Duchal Palace. A few minutes of wandering through city streets, and I'm back on the hunt.

BWP20130531011.jpg

How did I miss the Duchal Palace before? We start our house-to-house search by entering the house closest to the palace gate. It hardly matters that the door is locked.

BWP20130531012.jpg

I assume that the woman crying in front of the fireplace is Luisa's mother.

BWP20130531014.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Luisa? Was she your daughter?

luisas_mother.jpg That is what she was... Have a look at my husband, who restlessly wanders these rooms. He has lost his mind.

BRKVQ.jpg I talked to the paladin that killed your daughter.

luisas_mother.jpg Yes, poor Sir Dauron...

BRKVQ.jpg "Poor Sir Dauron?" That doesn't sound as if you think he is capable of what happened.

luisas_mother.jpg We mourn her death endlessly, but I also feel sorry for the paladin.

BRKVQ.jpg From what Sir Dauron said, some mighty evil power was involved.

luisas_mother.jpg Did he tell you that? What did he say?

BRKVQ.jpg That your daughter was possessed by a demon.

luisas_mother.jpg Please, I beg you! People are so upset already! Do not keep saying that our child was indeed possessed by a demon... I am deeply thankful to Sir Dauron he never used that excuse to defend himself against the accusations addressed at him.

BRKVQ.jpg What exactly did happen?

luisas_mother.jpg It all started with Luisa... Our daughter suddenly developed magical powers. Strong magical powers. At the beginning we thought she finally turned out to be a sorceress...

luisas_mother.jpg But the powers became too powerful, too dangerous... and she turned evil. My poor baby... The demon took over her mind, like a mold takes over a loaf of bread.

luisas_mother.jpg My husband, who is wandering the house in search of his memories, no longer recognizing me as his wife, lost his mind due to the changes. Sir Dauron came to help us. All involved were sure the demon took the place of our child, like some foul doppleganger, but after he... killed her, there was nothing but our little girl. We heard a horrible laugh. Sir Dauron turned all white. He lost his honor while trying to save us from this horrible creature.

luisas_mother.jpg Do you think I am not mourning for my daughter? I miss my little baby... but she... she was goe long before her body was slain. She turned into a monster. Why does Sir Dauron have to carry such a heavy burden, when he only tried to help us?

BRKVQ.jpg You heard a laugh? Do you mean the demon could be still here somewhere?

luisas_mother.jpg Sir Dauron's comrades of the Order searched the city, but they did not find a trace of it.

BRKVQ.jpg That's horrible. We will see what will come out of it.

luisas_mother.jpg I had to tell it to somebody I guess. Please, leave us now.

I know exactly what it is like to carry a heavy burden. I do not carry the weight of a dead child on my shoulders, but of many dead friends. And probably more still to come. I know how futile it is for Sir Dauron to seek rest. There is no rest for those like us - the harbingers of death.

On the way back, I do a lot of thinking. This isn't the first time I've heard of a child spontaneously developing magical powers.

BWP20130531015.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg I talked to Luisa's mother. She said you helped them defeat the demon.

dauron.jpg Helm's blessing for the poor woman. I am thankful she does not bear any feelings of hatred towards me.

BRKVQ.jpg Why is it that there is nobody from the Flaming Fist chasing you?

Gameplay note: Obviously because he got to a temple and donated a couple thousand gold real quick-like!

dauron.jpg The relevant people know what happened. There is no need for further actions, Helm be thanked. The situation is under control. There is no sign of the demon left in the city... otherwise I wouldn't still be standing here. *sigh*

dauron.jpg I am not sure whether I am content with this situation. If the city authorities, at least, would make me bleed for what I did... But this allows me to atone for the things I did, and atone I will.

BRKVQ.jpg I had a strange encounter in the city. A nanny from Luskan spoke of a child who had developed great magical powers.

dauron.jpg That... sounds exactly like what happened to little Luisa. From Luskan, you say? Maybe I have a chance of meeting that women here in Baldur's Gate, so she can give me more detailed information. Can it be that the demon fled to Luskan? I will find him. I will defeat him! This time I will be better prepared and will save the child's life!

dauron.jpg I thank you! This information is most valuable to me. All I can offer you in return is the true thankfulness from the bottom of my heart. Helm's blessing be upon you. You have given me new hope. Luisa was killed by my hand, but I will find this monster and save other children. Maybe... Just maybe this will be sufficient so I can regain my honor.

Gameplay note: His true thankfulness is worth 250 xp for us.

So the paladin thinks he can get rid of his guilt by going on a quest to try to right the wrongs he has done. Hrm. There might be something to that. Maybe if I went off somewhere, some day, to find myself, I'd be able to get a bit of peace. Maybe.

Then I go outside and try to disperse the crowd. Seems like they've already forgotten all about Sir Dauron, though.

BWP20130531016.jpg

Hmm, Sarevok the foster son, eh? I didn't know he was a foster son too. And he seems to be on everyone's mind today.

BWP20130531017.jpg

Hey... nobody in this town is plotting to marry ME. I'm a little jealous. Not that I want to get married, haha! Just, you know, the thought would be nice.

BWP20130531018.jpg

Alora seems to flit in and out of my awareness. Probably because she's so short.

BWP20130531019.jpg

But Alora isn't falling for this one.

Alora.jpeg Tell your master Jardak that we want to talk to him right away.

drelik.jpg Jardak will not see anyone... especially not a bunch of hooligans. Well, lest I seem rude, I had better introduce myself. My name is Drelik. Now that you know my name, I can guiltlessly go about the task of cleaning up the mess you've made, which incidentally includes removing you from the premises.

Then he attacks!

BWP20130531020.jpg

Alora tries to knock him out, but is quickly overwhelmed... by magic!

BWP20130531021.jpg

She runs screaming out of the house and tells me of the horrible man who tried to burn her to death. That won't do.

That won't do at all.

BWP20130531022.jpg

When I enter, he throws Magic Missile at me. I hold up my hand, and the Missiles bounce off of it.

BWP20130531023.jpg

Then, I calmly read my favorite line from the Holy Book of Rhialto, and strip the Weave from this pretender.

BWP20130531024.jpg

He turns to run, but I throw chaos blades into his back.

BWP20130531025.jpg

He has a minor sequencer prepared, and disappers from in front of me.

BWP20130531026.jpg

Cheap trick. I cast Detect Invisibility.

BWP20130531027.jpg

The Weave is behaving quite nicely today. I smile a full smile. I try to throw some missiles at him, but it can't just stay cooperative like that, can it?

BWP20130531028.jpg

Then, after a few more missteps, I finally get something good.

BWP20130531029.jpg

This looks more like a lava elemental than a fire elemental.

BWP20130531030.jpg

This punk did not know who he was dealing with.

BWP20130531031.jpg

That'll teach him to bully halflings! I escort Alora upstairs. I want to find this Jardak.

BWP20130531032.jpg

There he is. Employer of murderous thugs!

BWP20130531033.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Who are you, and where did you get that cool armor? Hmmm, at least you have better fashion sense than your butler.

jardak.jpg You don't understand the gravity of your situation. Stinking brigands, draw steel so that we might fight to the death!

Why I oughta!! Here, fight a djinni, you bastard!

BWP20130531034.jpg

Jardak goes all out, drinking potions and swinging away.

BWP20130531035.jpg

When the djinni calls an elemental to his side, I know the fight is over.

BWP20130531036.jpg

But I am the one to get the killing blow. Woohoo!

BWP20130531037.jpg

Dude had some pretty good Sunstone Bullets +3, a Sling +2, the Boots of Grounding, and a +2 katana.

BWP20130531038.jpg

Boots_of_Grounding.jpg

Katana_21.jpg

Alora seems kindof off-put by the whole experience. What, does she not like djinni or something?

BWP20130531039.jpg

When we get back outside, I motion to the next house and ask her if she wants to check that out too. But she just looks at the ground and shakes her head. Probably got burglary-shy, poor thing.

Our wanderings around the city eventually lead us back to the gate between the inner city and the outer city.

BWP20130531040.jpg

I remember late one night meeting the Section One operative here that I had failed to kill. And I remember that she had told me there was an evil greater than Section One in this city, in the southeast of this area, if I remember right. Well, no time like the present to check it out!

The peasants haven't heard any rumors, but they do know us!

BWP20130531041.jpg

I get Alora to unlock one of the likely doors, and we are in.

BWP20130531042.jpg

... into someone's house.

BWP20130531043.jpg

Ok, how about in here?

BWP20130531044.jpg

Eh, maybe not?

BWP20130531045.jpg

Ok, its definitely gotta be here.

BWP20130531046.jpg

Great.

BWP20130531047.jpg

Well, I'm out of ideas. What else can we do?

Gameplay note: Well, ladies and gentlemen, unless I can figure out how to fix the problems I'm having with the Wood of the Dead or track down the Oversight base for the Section One mod, we have no choice but to advance the main plot. Exciting!

I guess we could always investigate the Seven Suns trading coster.

BWP20130531048.jpg

Whoa! This place is fancy!

BWP20130531049.jpg

BRKVQ.jpgWe wanted a tour.

merchant.jpg Unfortunately, I cannot grant any of your desires, so could you kindly leave.

BRKVQ.jpg Not until we get to see Jhasso.

merchant.jpg I don't know where he is. He's been missing ever since everything went strange. I've seen some of the other merchants change faces when they thought I wasn't looking. Yes... you heard me right, they changed faces! Some sort of shapeshifters have infiltrated the Seven Suns. If I were you, I'd get out of here while there's still time. That's what I'm planning to do.

And then he waddles away. That sounds really freaking creepy. I gotta get a second opinion.

BWP20130531050.jpg

Got my face. GOT MY FACE?! There is NO WAY I'm giving a potential shapeshifter my name AND my face.

BRKVQ.jpg My name is my business. I'm not here to exchange pleasantries.

merchant2.jpg If you wish silence, then we ask the same of you. Bother us not.

Oh. Good point. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid?

BWP20130531051.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg I did not object to the sound of your voice, merely the words you sought to form with it. Come, now, and provide me with information more to my liking.

merchant2.jpg Your wit shall be your coffin and every jest a nail. Come, my brothers. If they have not found us out by now, it will not take them long. We should not suffer fools so gladly when this much as at stake.

And then they both... change.

BWP20130531052.jpg

Uh... what? That other guy was right?

BWP20130531053.jpg

The monsters die quickly, but not before fully awakening my paranoia. They can change shape whenever they want!

Upstairs, there are more of them!

BWP20130531054.jpg

Kagain cuts them down quickly, but for some reason it doesn't seem to help.

BWP20130531055.jpg

THEY COULD BE ANYONE!!

And why does this place only have two floors?

BWP20130531056.jpg

I have GOT to tell someone. The leader of the Flaming Fist, right? Yah, yeah... unless he's already one of Them. I will have to watch. I will have to be vigilant.

We go back outside, and are accosted by a thug in armor.

BWP20130531057.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg What would he have to say to me? Why do I need him?

laola_axehand.jpg I do not presume to say you need assistance. I merely meant to point you in a helpful direction. Making waves within Baldur's Gate without the sanction of the Flaming Fist can only lead to trouble for all concerned. Scar awaits you at the Flaming Fist headquarters in the southwest quadrant of the city.

OH. Ok. Scar is the leader of the Flaming Fist, I think. Right? Let me go talk to him.

BWP20130531058.jpg

Some day I want the Golden Company to have a headquarters like this. But, uh, different on the inside. Definitely better than cells.

BWP20130531059.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg According to one of the merchants we met, the Seven Suns has been infiltrated by some sort of shapeshifter. I don't know what kind of monsters they are, but the merchants are fearful.

Scar.jpeg This is very serious news. I must ask you another favor. If you were to return to the compound and destroy this infestation of monsters I would be willing to double your wage.

BRKVQ.jpg Sure we can go back, but the reward better be worth it.

Scar.jpeg I must thank you once again; you're doing a good service to this city.

I have a horrible thought. Could there be more shapeshifters that I haven't already killed? I go back and check. But nope, there are none that I can see. Except, why are those commoners hanging around so close to the front door?

BWP20130531060.jpg

Dare I attack them? What if they're only human? GAH! I guess I had better go back.

BWP20130531061.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We don't think we would be able to defeat all of the dopplegangers.

Scar.jpeg That's understandable; the creatures you have described are a very dangerous breed, IF they are the monsters I think they are. You'll still get an extra 1000 gold, and you need not worry about retaliation from these creatures. I'll be sending in a detachment of the Flaming Fist to deal with them. Unfortunately, using these kind of strong-arm tactics on the cities' premier merchant coster will bring down a lot of trouble on my head.

Scar.jpeg I have another job you may be interested in. You'll be will paid for your services. Care to hear more?

BRKVQ.jpg We're always interested in more work. What does it entail?

Scar.jpeg The problem is this: Every night people have been disappearing from the streets of the city. My men have been scouring the city trying to find the culprit, but so far to no avail. People have begun to get scared, and very few are willing to leave their homes at night. Something has to be done and fast. Would you be willing to take the job? I'd pay you 150 gold in advance with a 500 gold bonus if you discover what's been happening with the disappering citizens. What do you say?

BRKVQ.jpg We agree to your terms.

Scar.jpeg Your job is really simple; all I want you to do is patrol the east of the city and find an entrance to the sewers. Perhaps you'll get lucky and find out what's been happening. If you do find out what's been happening, come to see me at the Flaming Fist barracks. Our only clue so far has led us to the sewers, so if you want to explore them first, it would probably be a good idea. Also, we've found tracks of some many-legged creature, perhaps a centipede-like monster.

Well, okay then. This dovetails into that other thing I had on my list of things to do, which is to explore the sewers. Good then.

We head on out to the east side of the city.

BWP20130531062.jpg

Lets see... sewer entrance, sewer entrance.

The Monk is always out to keep a wild mage down. But the Weave, she speaks to me. Together we work our collective will on this brittle, cracking world.

Aha!

BWP20130531063.jpg

Lets go see what is down here, shall we?

BWP20130531064.jpg

Disgusting. Yet intriguing! I've always read that things HAPPEN in sewers, ya know? Literarily, I'm in an excellent position. We decide to explore northeast first.

BWP20130531065.jpg

I let Dynaheir test out her new spell on the rats.

BWP20130531066.jpg

She follows my advice on how to best use Aganazzar's Scorcher.

BWP20130531068.jpg

By the time it is done, she has gotten all of the rats.

BWP20130531069.jpg

I give her an enthusiastic thumbs up. Go Dynaheir!

There is a ladder up here. I decide to check out where it leads.

BWP20130531070.jpg

We pop up in the northeast edge of the city, just where I expected we would be.

BWP20130531071.jpg

Cool!

Southeast is a dead end.

BWP20130531072.jpg

West has a gate.

BWP20130531073.jpg

The place where I first climbed down into the sewers is infested with phase spiders when I get back.

BWP20130531074.jpg

Eh. No big deal. Southeast, there is another ladder.

BWP20130531075.jpg

Which leads to the southeast section of the city.

BWP20130531076.jpg

Gameplay note: These sewers are more convenient to travel around because one map connects all of the sections of the city. Or, at least they would be, if you couldn't travel to any section of the city from any other section of the city. Maybe it was that way in the original Baldur's Gate? I don't know, I've only played BG1 in the BG2 engine.

Now that I'm getting the hang of this place, I speed through the tunnels. There are a few monsters down here, but nothing compared to what I've been dealing with lately. That is, until I reach a confluence of many tunnels.

BWP20130531077.jpg

ogre_mage_sewers.jpg My pets, kill these intruders.

This guy obviously didn't get the memo 'bout Gullykin.

d7Fxw.jpg The s-stench... all the blood and these m-m-mangled b-bodies... I c-c-can't...

d7Fxw.jpg Let us p-put an end to this horrible m-monster... he m-must be stopped!

ogre_mage_sewers.jpg I think NOT!

Dynaheir skillfully uses another Scorcher, while the rest of us get into position.

BWP20130531078.jpg

I give them the memo 'bout Gullykin.

BWP20130531079.jpg

But then someone I really did not expect makes an appearance.

BWP20130531080.jpg

Jenkal?! The little hobbit who was in league with the ogre mage? Here?!

But I don't have time to worry about that now. In the chaos of battle, Dynaheir gets separated from the main party, and the Ogre Mage chases her down a corridor.

BWP20130531081.jpg

Things are not going to great with the Glyph of Wild Magic either.

BWP20130531082.jpg

Kagain gets Dire Charmed by the wild magic I think, but Viconia re-charms him back to our side. Also, the ogre mage casts Power Word Sleep on Dynaheir.

BWP20130531083.jpg

The ebb and flow of battle eventually finds us wailing on the ogre mage in an enclosed space. Jenkal falls, and then his master does too.

BWP20130531084.jpg

The ogre mage has a Ninja-To +2, and Manual of Quickness of Action.

Ninja-To_22.jpg

Manual_of_Quickness_of_Action_.jpg

Gameplay note: +1 dex! Woot! Who should we give it to?

Jenkal had nothing. What kind of fool goes up against us with no magical equipment?

Alora.jpeg Ooh, this is pretty scary, isn't it? I mean, I'd be scared without the rest of you.

In the extreme northwest, we find the tunnel expanding into the darkness.

BWP20130601001.jpg

The whole place is pretty well laid out though.

BWP20130601002.jpg

We follow the tunnel, and eventually find ourselves at an intersection.

BWP20130601003.jpg

An intersection with dead bodies floating in the brackish water.

BWP20130601004.jpg

Not far away, we find a sewer cleaner team.

BWP20130601005.jpg

Should I tell them about the dead bodies? They'll find them soon enough... I decide against it and turn west. At the end of the hallway, an annoying, hyper voice speaks out.

BWP20130602001.jpg

I've killed so many of these, and few of them have talked to me. I'm kindof curious to know what it'll say.

BRKVQ.jpg Who exactly are your people?

ratchild.jpg My people are rulers of the deeps. Where your peoples wastes are sent, that where we thrive. Ratchild's tribe is stronger than all others. Ratchild's tribe trained to beat anyone... ANYONE. No one can stand up to Ratchild and tribe!

BRKVQ.jpg That's wonderful that you live down here where all of our waste is dumped. You should be real proud.

ratchild.jpg You underestimate Ratchild. Many have done so... even Harpers have done so. All have felt Ratchild's wrath!

And then, sadly enough, they attack. Must everybody try to kill me?

BWP20130602002.jpg

Don't they know how futile it is?

BWP20130602003.jpg

Oh, is that Ratchild? Huh, I didn't expect a divine caster!

Dynaheir is quick to take out the kobold next to her.

BWP20130602004.jpg

Viconia doesn't seem to underestimate them. She Flamestrikes Ratchild as he CALLS DOWN AN UNHOLY BLIGHT UPON US!

BWP20130602005.jpg

Whoa! This is serious! I cast a serious Fireball at the group of gathering kobolds.

BWP20130602006.jpg

And the battle is done. Proportionate response best response.

We continue to map the sewers. We find a few mustard jellies.

BWP20130602007.jpg

Not a threat.

UQdpk.jpg Thy decency is refreshing when so many we meet are... lacking.

d7Fxw.jpg Your honesty is refreshing, but lace it well with tact.

We finish exploring this second major area of the sewers, and once again are prepared to trudge off into stinky darkness.

BWP20130602008.jpg

There are entirely too many dead bodies down here.

BWP20130602009.jpg

Haven't people heard of graveyards?!

A creepy thing happens next.

BWP20130602010.jpg

schlumpsha.jpg ... drip of waterrr mingllles with the gurgllling of the dead... They have wanted you dead, you know!

... a talking slime. Mur'neth! He should be here!

BRKVQ.jpg Who are you and who are these shambling creatures that you surround yourself with?

schlumpsha.jpg Who amm I, whoo indeed... it has been so llllong since I had hideous fform and... and shape lllike you... Hah, in yourr mind, I see things I recognize therrre, a place you calllled home, once...

BRKVQ.jpg Candlekeep. Until this springtide it was the only place I had ever known.

schlumpsha.jpg Candlllekeep... I was therrre, wassn't I... Yes, when I wass in my younger forrrm, when I wasss a mage so proud offf my talllent, of my craffft... But I transcended that llong ago and llleft it behind... Rrrrgh, you havve awakenned an ollld hunger in me, a hunger for substance, chilllld! Come closer, that I might gorge myselllf on you.

WHAT?

BWP20130602011.jpg

NO!

BWP20130602012.jpg

YOU

BWP20130602013.jpg

CAN'T

BWP20130602014.jpg

EAT

BWP20130602015.jpg

ME!

BWP20130602016.jpg

Kagain and Khalid mop up.

BWP20130602017.jpg

One of the sewerfolk was carrying a dead rat. Disgusting.

BWP20130602018.jpg

I'm having second thoughts about going deeper into this sewer. But, maybe just exploring a bit more...

BWP20130602019.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Your flesh! It's all green and alive and... and crawling! What has done this to you?!

shvertszche.jpg Foolisch one, you mishtake a... schlopsche... a blesching for a curshe... schollpsh... What isss thish meagre flesch in the facshe of shusch terrific beauty? It isss Schlumpsha who hassh done thisch to me and you would be blesshed schould he grant you the shame privilege...

Sorry dude, I killed him already. He won't be granting anyone else this "privilege" anymore.

We turn the corner and can only say, "Shit, eggs."

BWP20130602020.jpg

More giant spiders and mustard jellies get in our way.

BWP20130602021.jpg

Then if I'm correct, we should probably be able to climb up this ladder here and...

BWP20130602022.jpg

Yes, perfect! Right behind the Flaming Fist!

BWP20130602023.jpg

We go back to tell Scar we've been successful.

BWP20130602024.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We learned that an ogre mage holed up in the sewers was responsible for all the disappearances. He had several carrion crawlers that would steal out at night to carry off random victims. The crawlers used their hapless prey as food, whilst the ogre mage took any valuables they might have.

Scar.jpeg You've done a good job and earned your bonus in full. Do you have any of the items possessed by the ogre's victims? I'm sure their families would like to have something to remember their loved ones. We know for a fact that the Sashenstar family lost a daughter to those creatures. She had a signet ring, a ring inset with a ruby.

I look through my gem bag. Oh, I guess we did pick that up.

BRKVQ.jpg Yes we did, we'll happily return it.

Scar.jpeg I recognize this ring. This belonged to the Sashenstars' daughter; she was among the missing, as well. I am certain that the family will want to have a proper burial for their daughter. Would you be willing to return to the sewers and retrieve the body? You may return it to me and I will break the news to the Sashenstars.

BRKVQ.jpg If it will help to becalm a grieving family, I will do whatever I can. I shall return the body to you.

Scar.jpeg You are a valiant person indeed. I will wait your return.

Ok. Alright. Back into the sewers. But how am I going to tell one girl's body from all the other dead bodies down here? Does Scar know that there are so many?

BWP20130602025.jpg

Ok, that is obviously not her. I'll just have to search for a child's body and... I guess... hope that it is her? Oh gods, what if I find more than one?

BWP20130602026.jpg

These are also males. Facial hair.

We don't find a female body anywhere, so I am feelinf somewhat relieved, when I notice something in a half-submerged bathtub that I had not noticed before.

BWP20130602029.jpg

It is, unfortunately, a female body in expensive clothing.

BWP20130602031.jpg

With heavy heart, I return it to Scar.

BWP20130602032.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Yes, actually. Here you go.

Scar.jpeg You have done well, and perhaps now the Sashenstars will find some peace. Please accept this 1500 gold bonus for the return of the body. Anyway, I'm going to need some people to do some investigating of the Iron Throne. I'm just going to finish up some paperwork, then I'll be just outside the main doors of the Flaming Fist compound. If you wish to discuss the Iron Throne, just come talk to me there.

I take this opporutnity to look around the Flaming Fist headquarters some more. It actually kindof looks to be dwarf engineered.

BWP20130602034.jpg

BWP20130602036.jpg

Well, isn't that nice. You know, I actually have one of those right now...

BWP20130602037.jpg

I decide to get on the good side of the Flaming Fist. I offer it to him.

BWP20130602038.jpg

Gameplay note: WE get 400 xp and our reputation goes up 1 point!

Then I decide to take a look at what's in the cellar.

BWP20130602040.jpg

Looks like storage. Wait, are those chests over there?

BWP20130602041.jpg

I'm going to have to get Alora back down here some day. Then, because it has been a long day, and because Viconia is completely out of spells, we go to the nearby Inn to sleep until morning.

BWP20130602043.jpg

This turns out to be a bad idea.

BWP20130602044.jpg

We move as fast as possible to finish off the slimes before they kill anyone.

BWP20130602045.jpg

We take them all out, then I turn to the nearest person to ask what happened. Unfortunately he looks decidedly green.

BWP20130602046.jpg

I go look around for the barkeep, but I can't find him. Then the green, sickly-looking commoner bursts into chunks!

BWP20130602047.jpg

Ramazith! Isn't that the mage with the tower near the palace who wanted me to steal a nymph for him? Hmmm... I think I need to go have a little talk with my fellow mage about the abuse of the Weave. Some day. For now, though, I want to get on with investigating the Iron Throne. They have been behind most of my troubles this past year. I need to make them stop.

Gameplay note: Ok, we have another vote to make. Who should get the Manual of Quickness of Action? It is +1 DEX, and it can go to anyone in the Golden Company. Make your suggestions!

Ok, it looks like Syv is getting the tome:
Who should get the Manual of Quickness of Action?

Syvishtar	....................
Imoen ...........

But I finished the next update before the votes were counted, so I didn't use it next update. I will, though.

BWP20130602048.jpg

10 Flamerule, 1370

Scar is standing just outside the Flaming Fist compound, just like he said he would be.

BWP20130604001.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Of course we'll come, especially if we have an audience with the Grand Duke.

Scar.jpeg Just follow me. I'll take you to the Flaming Fist compound. The Grand Duke is waiting for us.

We follow him inside.

BWP20130602001.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We've learned that they're involved in a plot that threatens the stability of your city.

Duke_Eltan.jpeg From what I have been told, you have been quite a thorn in the side of the Iron Throne. I'm interested in you, because of the obvious hatred that they hold for you. Their recent activities have been brought to my attention, and I am very dubious about the intent of the Throne. I think it is far too easy to blame the recent caravan raids and iron shortage on the Zhentarim. Though the evidence does point to them, they do not have much to profit, while the Iron Throne has everything to gain. I have much to concern me right now, especially with tension rising between our city and the nation of Amn. Unfortunately my hands are tied; I can't act against the Iron Throne until I have hard evidence of their wrong doing. That's, of course, where you come in. I need a small group of spies to break into the Iron Throne headquarters and see if they can find any proof of the Throne's involvement with the caravan raids. If you do this for me you'll be paid extremely well; 1000 gold to divide among yourselves. What is your answer?

BRKVQ.jpg 1000 gold?!? Consider us hired!

Duke_Eltan.jpeg You have made a wise decision. It is a difficult mission that I give you, but I am sure that you have the wherewithal to make it through. Return and report to me once you feel you have enough information to use against the Iron Throne.

Duke_Eltan.jpeg There is another case, too. Our Citadel on the North border seems to have strange things going on. A messenger told me that people were disappearing recently, but I cannot send anyone there who might be loyal. If you are able to spend a few days, just visit the place and try to find out what's going on there.

BRKVQ.jpg We'll be back as soon as possible.

Gameplay note: Unfortunately the Northern Citadel is another broken area. We can't go there.

While we are talking, Alora is busy.

BWP20130602003.jpg

The book she finds is another Tome of Clear Thought!

BWP20130602004.jpg

When we are outside, I tell the team that we're going to investigate the Iron Throne. Alora says she knows a shortcut. She says we can get into the Iron Throne basement through the sewers. She runs off and we follow her...

to here!

BWP20130602008.jpg

We follow her lead and run through a few dark tunnels, ending up in an unfamiliar place.

BWP20130602009.jpg

This is the best basement ever! It has courtesans,

BWP20130602010.jpg

BWP20130602011.jpg

BWP20130602012.jpg

noblemen,

BWP20130602013.jpg

and guards.

BWP20130602014.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We just want to take a look around.

guard_uncercellar.jpg Sorry, no money, no entry.

BRKVQ.jpg Okay, here's your damn money.

guard_uncercellar.jpg Thanks chum.

And that's about it. Alora giggles and says she took a wrong turn accidentally. We go back and try another way.

And before we go in, I do something I should have done already.

BWP20130602015.jpg

We end up in some sort of beer cellar. The place smells pretty good.

BWP20130602016.jpg

A small room off to the side is also stocked with other goodies.

BWP20130602017.jpg

But Alora is seen swiping them.

BWP20130602018.jpg

Alora.jpeg We're new recruits. We were told to have a look around, so that's what we're doing.

guard_iron_throne_cellar.jpg Lying scum! There aren't any new recruits.

Oops! Alora tries to smack him over the head, but that doesn't work either.

BWP20130602019.jpg

So Kagain chops him into tiny bits.

BWP20130602020.jpg

I hope no one comes down here soon! We climb up the stairs, and then begin to gaze around in open-mouthed wonder!

Iron Throne Intro Movie.

We begin to take a look around, but we are stopped by another guard.

BWP20130602021.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We're seeking employment with the Iron Throne. If you could just direct us to someone with whom we should speak, we will be on our way.

guard_iron_throne.jpg We don't need any new employees, now get lost.

The guard looks like he is going to reach for his weapon, but before he can, we hear a scream from behind us.

BWP20130602022.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg Madness in this much-lauded tower? That there be malice here, I have no doubt... but madness? Never.

triadore.jpg Then clearly you know it not! Madness seethes here and amongst Sarevok's crazed acolytes it overflows. I'm a simple merchant after a pretty coin, but I swear it isn't worth it to suffer this place so long.

BRKVQ.jpg After a pretty coin, are you? Would 300 gold pieces be enough to make you stay awhile and tell me what you know of this place?

triadore.jpg Aye, I guess, but I'll not be long about it. The acolytes I mentioned, they stay with Thaldorn on the fifth floor. Eight of them, there are, and their madness comes in pairs: two priests, two mages, two assassins, two hardened thugs. But there is something wrong about them... if they were here for the simple joys of a pretty coin, I'd have no quarrel with them. But no: they would not deign to be so human. There is something more, some secret agenda and I know not what... Ack, even now I can feel their pestilential eyes upon me. Your lucre can keep me here no longer, I'm afraid.

The guard goes hostile, and I try to calm him down.

BWP20130602023.jpg

I just make him quiet. I try to charm him again, but instead he is blinded.

BWP20130602024.jpg

Ok, Weave, I think that's enough. The man can't speak and can't see. We leave him there in the center of the room, and continue our explorations.

BWP20130602025.jpg

There are some really cool statues in the far corner, and some stairs.

BWP20130602026.jpg

The Monk is always out to keep a wild mage down. But the Weave, she speaks to me. Together we work our collective will on this brittle, cracking world.

On the second floor, we are questioned again.

BWP20130602027.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg The fifth floor. Sarevok asked us to deliver an important message to his acolytes.

dratan.jpg Hmph. Better you than me. Working with that crowd can be downright creepy, some days.

BRKVQ.jpg Creepy? How do you mean?

dratan.jpg I seen people go up there with... with one face and... and come back down with another. I don't know how else to say it... I got a keen eye for faces, I do, and I think... I think them people going up and down know it, too, 'cause one time one of them caught me looking at him and he winked right at me and the... and he changed the colors of his left eye, right as I was watching him! It started out a chocolate brown but then it went all quicksilver for a moment, like the mercury the mages play with, and then he was gone and out the door, laughing his high-pitched laugh.

BRKVQ.jpg Well, mark my eyes now and mark them well. If they go all quicksilver when I come back down, take that dagger from your belt and gouge the offending eye from my skull quick as lightning, because it won't be my own. I don't know what's going on but you're right: It's creepy and, had I a choice, I'd want no part of it.

dratan.jpg Aye, friend. I wish we all had no part in it... But I have marked your eyes and your face as well. I pray they do not shift on me.

Then I take a good look around this floor.

BWP20130602028.jpg

I want the headquarters of the Golden Company to look like the Flaming Fist headquarters on the outside, but I definitely want it to look like this place on the inside. Awesome floors! Then we go up to the 3rd.

BWP20130602029.jpg

Time to try out a new lie.

BRKVQ.jpg We've just come from Cormyr. With business going so well there, we have brought a large sum of surplus money for your superiors. I'm sure they wouldn't wish to be kept waiting.

guard_iron_throne.jpg That's funny, 'cause last I heard, the Iron Throne was banned from operating in Cormyr. Lying scum! I don't know how you've got this far, but you'll get no further.

Aww, weaveballs! I try to charm this one with magic.

BWP20130602030.jpg

Yes! I feel kinda sorry for these guys. They're only minions, after all. They don't need to die for their master's whims. Besides, there are other people in this place. I don't want to get caught slaughtering flunkies. Speaking of, someone addresses me as I walk by.

BWP20130602031.jpg

My Candlekeep upbringing is automatic.

BRKVQ.jpg We must ask for a name before we go telling the whereabouts of Iron Throne high-ups.

nortuary.jpg I'm Nortuary, and your Iron Throne 'high-up' answers to me! I've just arrived from Selgaunt in Sembia. The council wishes to know how things are faring. Now tell me where I can find Rieltar!

BRKVQ.jpg Actually, we don't really now where he is at the moment. We apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused you.

nortuary.jpg Damn it, is anyone competent here!

Don't think so buddy. Best get out while you're still alive. But just stopping to answer a question has marked me as One Who Answers Questions. I quickly get stopped by another important-looking figure.

BWP20130602033.jpg

Again, my Candlekeep instincts kick in when talking to nobility.

BRKVQ.jpg Of course. How may I assist you, Ma'am.

emissary_tar.jpg Ma'am this, ma'am that, I have little desire to suffer through more of your flat gentility. You may call me Emissary Tar and direct me towards the nearest staircase. I have some important business to conduct on the fifth floor on behalf of the Grand Dukes.

BRKVQ.jpg Ma-- ... Emissary Tar, would it be untoward of me to inquire as to the nature of your business on the fifth floor?

emissary_tar.jpg It is hardly a secret. The Grand Dukes have sent me to negotiate a new iron treaty with Thaldorn. It appears that the Merchants' Consortium and the Seven Suns have voluntarily granted the Iron Throne temporary control over their mines in order to simplify the city's supply struture and thereby strengthen the war effort... should it come to that. I am here to ensure that we have access to that iron at a favorable price. The Iron Throne has been more than cooperative with us to date and I doubt that they will change their tune now. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have no intention of being late for my negotiations.

Others aren't so talkative.

BWP20130602034.jpg

At least the kitchen staff is nice!

BWP20130602035.jpg

Some of them.

BWP20130602036.jpg

Then it is up to the fourth floor. We're getting closer to the ringleaders of the Iron Throne! I can taste the anticipation, in the back of my throat.

BWP20130602037.jpg

What?! Reiltor and Brunos have gone to Candlekeep?! Crap! How am I going to get answers now? At least Sarevok and his eight cronies are still above.

BWP20130602038.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We're merchants just out of Sembia.

bartender.jpg Out of Sembia, eh? Well if yer looking for Reiltar or Brunos, you won't find them here. They're off to Candlekeep for some important business.

I try to make my way through the tables here in the bar. But a tiny man again interrupts me.

BWP20130602039.jpg

destus_gurn.jpg ... Zhalimar Cloudwulfe, Gardush, Naaman, Diyab, Shennara, Kaalos, Aasim, and Alai, all of them quite respectable people and eager to meet you. We also have a ninth member on that board, today, a Mr. Lyle Espejo. He is there to ensure that things go smoothly in this time of transition. As for the agenda...

BRKVQ.jpg Please, Mr. Gurn, I have my own copy of the agenda and no desire to waste any more time here than necessary. If you would be so kind as to allow me to proceed upstairs to the negotiations, I would be very grateful.

destus_gurn.jpg Yes, true, very well then, Emissary Tar. Proceed upstairs and don't allow me to keep you here a moment longer. Great things are afoot and I am very proud to have met you on behalf of the Iron Throne and I hope, for everyone's sake, then, that the... negotiations... proceed swiftly, yes, thank you.

Did he pause ominously before he said negotiations? I think he paused ominously before he said negotiations. Damnit, I'm going to be ambushed. This is no way to treat an Emissary! I pull my party into the library and discuss tactics in hushed tones.

BWP20130602040.jpg

This place is truly beautiful. Why don't I have a cool place like this to call mine own? Put it on the list!

There were 8 names that Destus Gurn mentioned, so I guess we're going up against 8 people. I tell Viconia to Hold casters, and the K-wrecker-twins to go for the nearest thug. Dynaheir I tell to stay by my side and follow my lead, and Alora I tell to sling fools like she's never slung fools before. They all nod. They know the drill. This is the crew that saved Gullykin, after all! I'm proud of them. They keep their heads in a fight.

I also make sure to steal ALL the books. Finch is going to be so happy!

BWP20130602041.jpg

Among the books, we find a new spell - Know Opponent!

Know_Opponent.jpg

Gameplay note: MAGIC RESISTANCE DOES NOT AFFECT THIS SPELL. It is fortuitous that we gain access to this spell just before attacking, well, you'll see.

BWP20130602042.jpg

I'm just below the fifth floor, where Sarevok and all his minions supposedly hang out. I think the time for subtlety is done.

BRKVQ.jpg We're the mercenaries who've been messing up all your operations these past weeks. Tell us everything you know or we'll kill you where you stand!

merchant_iron_throne.jpg Wait! Don't kill me please! What do you want to know? I'll tell you anything.

BRKVQ.jpg Where are your leaders?

merchant_iron_throne.jpg They-They're at Candlekeep, at some important conference.

merchant_iron_throne.jpg Please leave; I promise not to tell anyone you're here.

BRKVQ.jpg What are the Iron Throne's plans?

merchant_iron_throne.jpg I couldn't tell you that... I'm not privy to that kind of information. You-you'd have to ask Rieltar, Brunos or Thaldorn.

Then we steel ourselves for the battle to come, cast our spells,

BWP20130603001.jpg

and mount the stairs to the fifth floor.

BWP20130602043.jpg

The Monk is always out to keep a wild mage down. But the Weave, she speaks to me. Together we work our collective will on this brittle, cracking world.

As soon as we get up there,

BWP20130602044.jpg

Emissary Tar is right there next to him, so I have no other options. I give my own name.

BRKVQ.jpg My name is Syvishtar. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions.

zhalimar_cloudwulfe.jpg Syvishtar, you say? Ah yes, Sarevok warned us you might try to meddle. That meddling will stop here, however.

I think back to the Nashkel Mines, to the Wood of Sharp Teeth, to the Cloakwood. I laugh.

BRKVQ.jpg And who are you to say so? I've crushed all those before you!

zhalimar_cloudwulfe.jpg Those before us were fools, as you are. Those before us were weak, as you are. Those before us were not Zhalimar, or Gardush, or Naaman, or Diyab, or Shennara, or Kaalos, or Aasim, or Alai. Those before us are dead, as you will be. So it has been decreed; so it shall be done. So orders Sarevok!

I am distracted when Emissary Tar turns into one of those monsters. Damnit! I liked her! But the burst of magical energies from the assembled crazies brings me back to sanity.

We start out strong. I throw random magic at the nearest bad guy, while Alora slings Bullets of Detonation at the enemy.

BWP20130603002.jpg

Offensive and defensive magics fly out of my fingers, and I hardly know which is which. A Finger of Death kills a doppelganger.

BWP20130603003.jpg

Viconia casts Silence at our foes, in order to ruin their day more completely.

BWP20130603004.jpg

But then it all goes terribly wrong. What comes out of my hands begins to frighten me.

BWP20130603005.jpg

I scream at everyone to run to the other side of the room! Meanwhile, a Djinni calmly asks me my heart's desire in the midst of this chaos.

BWP20130603006.jpg

I wish for us all to be healed. Dynaheir is looking pretty ragged. And they are, not a moment too soon, for an Unholy Blight is incoming.

BWP20130603007.jpg

It falls upon us, hitting Alora especially hard. Poor thing.

BWP20130603008.jpg

Everyone seems focused on attacking the floating magical sword that I accidentally brought into existence, and doesn't seem to care about the demon in the corner.

BWP20130603009.jpg

Thats how They get you.

Alora keeps throwing the Bullets of Detonation, even though she only has 3 more. They do their part.

BWP20130603010.jpg

As Dynaheir calls forth some more of her inexhaustible supply of snake-men, Viconia turns Gardush into a pillar of flame.

BWP20130603011.jpg

I see Naaman, a caster, round the corner, and with a snarl I throw the nastiest spells I know at him: Finger of Death and Flesh to Stone.

BWP20130603012.jpg

The pale white ectoplasm evaporating from his body as he dies indicates that he couldn't withstand the first one.

BWP20130603013.jpg

The Cornugon's Fireball is absolutely devastating to the remaining combatants.

BWP20130603014.jpg

I see Zhalimar Cloudwulfe turn and run from melee with the Cornugon, and I do what is most fitting - I rip the remaining life from his body. He falls, and his life force enters me.

BWP20130603015.jpg

It gives me a warm glow in the center of my being. Who has fallen now, Zhalimar?

But then, behind us appears a sneaky cleric, Alai. He strikes Dynaheir and she falls!

BWP20130603016.jpg

I turn to scream a warning, but there is a hot breath upon the back of my neck. The Cornugon!!

BWP20130603017.jpg

The Cornugon radiates fear. Kagain cannot stand against him.

BWP20130603018.jpg

I again tell everyone to run, but the Cornugon just laughs, and casts a Fireball after us.

BWP20130603019.jpg

I must put down the Cornugon! Down down down!

BWP20130603020.jpg

I have no idea what to do to demons. I let the Weave decide.

BWP20130603021.jpg

The Cornugon goes down the hall, chasing a frightened, blinded Kagain. It is still laughing.

BWP20130603022.jpg

I keep throwing random magic at it. But nothing seems to hurt the beast. And the Weave, for some sadistic reason, teleports me right next to it!

BWP20130603023.jpg

The Weave supplies a gnoll and a lesser earth elemental, and they occupy the Cornugon.

BWP20130603024.jpg

But Kagain is still running scared. And unless Glitterdust does something to demons, I am out of options.

Viconia steps up and calls down a Flamestrike on the Cornugon.

BWP20130603025.jpg

It might have hurt it? Hard to tell. But it is easy to tell that the Cornugon pounds the elemental into dirt, and burns the gnoll alive.

BWP20130603026.jpg

Now there is nothing standing in its way. We're going to have to run.

BWP20130603027.jpg

It follows.

BWP20130603028.jpg

And now we have brought a demon down on innocent merchants and the bartender. My ... my god. What have I done?

We run across the bar and back up the other stairway, the thuds of the towering evil always behind us.

BWP20130603029.jpg

Kagain is alive, but lying unconscious in a back room. Viconia goes to heal him. I look down at the Phantom Blade that appeared in my hand when I was casting so very many spells. Maybe this is the key?

BWP20130603030.jpg

No, no its not. And the demon just keeps following us, throwing Fireballs.

BWP20130603031.jpg

We can't run, we can't hide, we can't fight...

BWP20130603032.jpg

We are trapped here until someone gets unlucky. And someone does - Khalid. He gives into the fear and dies screaming incoherent stutters.

BWP20130603033.jpg

I agonize over the situation. If I teleport us all out and wait the demon out, then our equipment is likely to be looted. If I run downstairs, then the demon is unleashed upon Baldur's Gate's citizens. If we stand and fight, then we die. This is a special kind of hell.

We are all hit with fear and run out aimlessly until the demon simply disappears.

BWP20130603034.jpg

I hope it burns in a hell other than its own. After the terror passes, we get out of our dark corners, gather together, check over our wounds, and organize the equipment of our fallen comrades.

BWP20130603035.jpg

That was horrifying. My own demon killed my own companion.

And to add despair to terror, when we search the rooms, we find the real Emissary Tar's body in one of the rooms.

BWP20130603036.jpg

And in the other room, we find Thaldorn!

BWP20130603038.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We can't do that until you answer some questions.

thaldorn.jpg You're here to kill me aren't you. You can't kill me! Do you know who I am? I'm Thaldorn, one of the leaders of the Iron Throne.

BRKVQ.jpg Where can we find documents that will implicate your organization for its involvement with the bandit raids and iron shortage? Tell us or die.

thaldorn.jpg Please don't hurt me! You can find everything you need with Rieltar, he's the true leader of the operation. He always carries everything on his person. Am I free to go?

BRKVQ.jpg If you tell us where the leaders of the Iron Throne are located, we might let you go free.

thaldorn.jpg The other leaders, Brunos and Rieltar, they're at Candlekeep, attending business with some benefactors from the south. Will you let me go now, please?

52ZfP.jpg Candlekeep? Yet more aimless trekking across the countryside, then.

thaldorn.jpg Please, just let me go!

I've brought enough death here today, and the Cornugon has shaken me to the core.

BRKVQ.jpg You're free to go.

We rifle through the desks and shelves in this place, and come up with a new spell!

Simbul_s_Spell_Matrix.jpg

We also gather together our new equipment additions together and look them over.

Wound_Ripper.jpg

Gameplay note: A good alternative for Kagain.

The_Sleeper.jpg

Gameplay note: And possibly an upgrade for Viconia.

Suryris_s_Blade_2.jpg

Gameplay note: We don't have anyone who uses halberds/polearms, but we have a lot of them. Perhaps we should train someone in their use?

Eagle_Bow_2.jpg

Gameplay note: An entangling bow? Really awesome for some people... but a short bow means only Imoen would use it. Maybe she'll have to next time she's in the group.

Heavy_Crossbow_of_Accuracy_1.jpg

Gameplay note: It says +1, but it is +2 or +3 respectively.

Gauntlets_of_Elven_Might.jpg

Gameplay note: 18/51 STR bonus! Hey! More like gauntlets of mediocre semi-might.

Karajah_s_Leather_Armor_3.jpg

Gameplay note: Contingency in an item? Wow, this is unusual. I might have to try this out.

Lesser_Ring_of_Perception.jpg

Gameplay note: Give this to Alora immediately!

We also find 3 veeeery interesting letters.

BWP20130604002.jpg

Sarevok knows my name, and wants me dead personally. Right back at yah, bub. You're going down when I get to Candlekeep!

After a moment, I realize what Sarevok did. He started his own version of a Golden Company of devoted followers and threw them at me. He threw their lives away. Hopefully they weren't his first-stringers, because they went down like chumps.

Letter12.jpg

What the hell? I'm not dead you bastard! Why would he just up and lie to his father like that? I would never do that to Gorion! And he says he can't make it to Candlekeep? Damnation! How am I going to kill him now? I guess I'll have to track him down via his father somehow.

BWP20130604003.jpg

Hrm... so Reiltar is trying to put together an alliance that both the Harpers and the Zhentarim are opposing. I wonder who he could be talking to.

I guess I had better resurrect my companions and go report back to Scar. This time, I leave via the front door. There is no one to stop me.

BWP20130604004.jpg

As soon as we close it behind us, though, we are approached by a man in armor.

BWP20130604005.jpg

52ZfP.jpg Exactly the tale I would expect an enemy in disguise to spin. 'Ware, Syvishtar.

BRKVQ.jpg What do you want, "friend"? I've no time for idle chatter.

caedmon.jpg I find your manner displeasing, though I suppose it has been your trials that have made you this way. I am an aide of Scar's. His instructions were to follow you and see that you don't get into more trouble than you are worth. You seem capable of handling yourself, but I still think you would benefit from a visit to the Flaming Fist headquarters.

BRKVQ.jpg Scar? What does he have to say to me?

caedmon.jpg I do not know. That is for you and him to discuss. He awaits you at the Flaming Fist headquarters in the southwest quadrant of the city.

Yes, yes, I know where it is. We come out overlooking the docks, and they are quite enchanting at night.

BWP20130604006.jpg

After yet another temple run to resurrect our fallen, we go back to the Flaming Fist to give our report to Duke Eltan.

BWP20130604007.jpg

BRKVQ.jpg We know that any incriminating evidence would be found with Reiltar, the overall leader of the Iron Throne in Baldur's Gate. He's currently supposed to be at Candlekeep on some sort of business.

Duke_Eltan.jpeg Then there is only one thing to do: travel to Candlekeep and learn what they're doing there. Whatever it is, it can't bode well for the fortunes of this city. Take this book. Without it, the Keeper of the Portal won't allow you entrance into the library. Here also is the reward money that I had promised you.

Gameplay note: And thus concludes Chapter Six! This was an extremely long chapter. My first post in Chapter 6 was a full year ago. Holy shit, has it really been that long? It has taken more real life days than in-game days to get to this point. Now that we are at the end of this chapter, I think now is a good time to do a new party composition vote.

Also, who gets the Tome of Clear Thought? You may notice that I haven't yet given anyone the Manual of Quickness of Action. Thats because I finished this update before votes were completely in.

It is time once again to vote for new party members! Who do you like best?

The party that we choose will be unwillingly forced to run all over the Sword Coast yet again, on a harebrained search for a way to enter Candlekeep. What, you didn't think Duke Eltan just GIVING us a book to enter Candlekeep would work, did you? The party will also end up in a dead dwarf's tower, an island full of werewolves, a frozen island full of nothing, will meet Fabio again and go back to Restenford, and will have to kill a demon and some cultists before eventually making it to Candlekeep and beginning the Mad Dash to the End. So keep in mind when you vote - this may be the last opportunity your favorite character has to gain the absolutely essential xp necessary to survive the end. God I love this game.

You have 5 votes to spend. You can use all 5 votes for one character, or spread them out. You can vote both positively and negatively. If you vote too many times, only the first 5 votes are counted. If there is a tie, the character with the least amount of negative votes wins. If there's a tie in both positive and negative votes, I'll flip a coin. After voting is closed, the top 5 characters will join the party until they die, when they will be replaced with the next-most-popular character. Below is an abbreviated roster of all of our current choices:

the_golden_company.png

If any of you guys have any clues about how I could perhaps salvage the NTotSC mod, I've tried to post in detail about the problems I'm having here.

Xan +5

also Syvishtar, all the tomes, etc.

I think copying & pasting the area files from the NSotSC folder into your override might work, but I don't have BWP installed anymore so I can't check for you.
