We got another poem during the voting on the main thread:

There's a Shar-Teel in my Party
by Seuss of Soubar

Did you ever have a feeling
there's a Kivan in your divan?
Or a Squirrel telling riddles?
Or a Tiax while you relax?

Sometimes I feel quite assuaged
Out there's a Brage
in a mad rage!

Sometimes I have the feeling
There's a Garrick
And he's barbaric

And that Bear right over there!
Now he'll follow us anywhere.

That's the kind of party I live with.
There's a Boo having a poo.

And a Minsc having a drink
And they're rather nice.
I think.

Some of them are very friendly
like a Finch who doesn't flinch

But that Edwin stroking his chin!
Some I hug
And some I pinch

I like the Bjornin in the morning
and Firebeard with his Elvenhair

But that Ajantis with that sword of his?
Well, I wish he wasn't there.

Those charming bunnies with explosive tummies
They're good fun to have about.

But the CùChoinneach, cockier every minute
Him, I could do without.

The only one I'm really scared of
is the Xsar in the dark

And that Mur'neth with his slime breath?
I don't like him, he's a sham.

And it makes me sort of nervous
When the Xan tells us his plan.

But the cows among the ploughs
They're great fun to have around.

And so are many many other friends that I have found

Like the Carper
and the Bumper
and the Thumper
and the Grumper
and the Humper
and the Scrumper
and the Harper

We make baddies scarper.

Like the kobolds who never get old
Because the Yeslick kills them real quick

and last there's Imoen, the greatest heroine

I don't care
if you don't believe it
That's the kind of party
I travel in
And I hope
We never leave it

Here's how the votes look now. I'm not in a position to play yet, so voting is still open. I'm trying to finish this inventory of all our loot. I'll keep voting open until I finish that document.

I wanted to do a comprehensive inventory of the items I've got nestled away in my pocket plane before moving into the big city, so that I can get a kind of feel for what treasure I'm packing. I put everything into a Bag of Holding and took it to the Song of the Morning Temple to get prices on it. Then I made this list.

Armory Inventory
Please note, personalized weapons, armor, and other effects are not counted in the armory. Also note that the value of all items on one line is added together in the value column.

Ammunition

160 Arrows (1d6) NA

38 Shar-Teel 13 -31 -18 8

So our party is going to be Black Bear, Imoen, Yeslick, Sirine, and Jaheira. Our backup party is going to be Indira, Edwin, Minsc, Finch, and Squirrel. And our third-stringers are Kivan, Xan, Khalid, Xzar, and Kagain. Not that I think we'll need them. Because I'm not implying that we have a weak first group that will die easily. Not at all.

* The Most Popular Award goes to: Black Bear! Everybody loves this guy, geez. He beat out Imoen even.

* Steadiest Maintainer Award this time goes to: Yeslick. 2nd last time, 3rd this time, he is always popular with the Voices.

* Greatest Fall Award goes to: Shar-Teel. She was 8th last time, now she is dead last at 38th. Even though she went into the Underdark and came back out again with us, that does not bode well.

* Most Meteoric Rise award goes to: Khalid and Jaheira. Jaheira made it all the way into the starting group, and Khalid is 11 places higher than he used to be. People are getting curious about their role in Baldur's Gate the city, I think.

Wow, that's a lot of potential cash. Have you tried to outfit all availaible characters and see if there's anything left that we can safely sell, knowing it won't be needed in the final battle? Seems to me like we could afford another item or two by selling some of the superfluous stuff. And while I'm on the topic of availaible characters and gold, any progress on recruiting a high-lvl cleric for resurrections? These might have been adressed in the main thread but the forums are currently inaccessible to us lesser, accountless folk.

I'm not sure which cleric would be high enough level. Do you guys know?

22 Tarsakh, 1370

I spend several days at the Song of the Morning Temple. Keldath Ormlyr is the only one open to buying everything that I have with me, and also the only one patient enough to go through it all and assign a fair price. I trust his divine ways that far. I finally get a complete and total price on everything that I am carrying. I own 320,160 gold worth of weapons, armor, magic items, and treasure. I am completely flabbergasted. I had no idea it was worth all that much. I walk out of the temple in a daze, only barely registering one of Shar-Teel's impressive displays.

Posted Image

I get back to the Jovial Juggler with a plan. There is probably going to be someone waiting for me when I get to Baldur's Gate. I am not so stupid as to think I won't have every hand against me when I get to the seat of the Iron Throne. So to transport all of my people to Baldur's Gate I need to send a strike team in first. I need to make sure this team is wise, capable, resourceful, and intimidating, in order to make the best physical and psychological impression that I can on my enemies. Then, when we have swept in through the main gates of Baldur's Gate and intimidated all who would oppose us, the rest of my people can come safely.

Posted Image

I wonder which party would be most visually impressive, the most wise, capable, well-rounded. Eventually I decide. I will, of course, take Imoen with me. I need my apprentice with me at all times. Her charm will disarm all around us, and her training as a thief will be invaluable in making contact with the underworld that surely must exist in Baldur's Gate. For pure intimidation I will take Black Bear. How many people can just stroll into a bustling metropolis with a pet bear in tow? That's going to make a few thugs think twice, undoubtedly. For wisdom I will take Jaheira. She's an experienced adventurer and seems to know more about what's going on than I do. She must have been to the city before. I need her wisdom and insight with me when I first reach it. I will also take Sirine - her blinding beauty and haunting melodies are going to turn that city on its head. And finally, I've got to take Yeslick. A better shieldwall and more competent healer I do not know. He can keep any party up and fighting. Yes, this party will be just the thing to make my first impression on Baldur's Gate.

So, I tell my companions what is going to happen, starting with Bardo. You're going to have to take a little break there buddy.

Posted Image

What? Weaknesses? What is this halfling on about? I try to talk to him again, to get some clarification. But he just says the same thing again. He doesn't seem interested in joining back up with me any time soon either. Weird little fuzzball.

Gameplay note: Bardo is Lawful Neutral, and it looks like he doesn't want to be a part of a heroic party. Our 19 reputation is too high for his satisfaction. He won't leave because of it as long as he is in the party, but it looks like he'll refuse to join up again unless we lower our reputation. At least he didn't pull an Ajantis and go storming off. He's still here in the Jovial Juggler.

I turn to the squirrel, to try to get him to stay here. I hope he understands me.

Posted Image

Posted Image You have to wait here. There is no room for you right now.

He seems to understand. I hope I can find him again in this busy tavern. Then, I turn to the incomparable Shar-Teel. She can't come with us this time. But we can do it like we did it before, right?

Posted Image

Khalid isn't overly masculine. Wait, infernal duty? "Look babe," I say, "if you didn't want to serve me anymore then why did you agree to go look for Otho's son? I've given you equipment, shelter, valuable experience... and myself. Just because things aren't good between us right now doesn't mean.... Why aren't you looking at me?"

But she doesn't even answer. She just turns to the door and leaves, without a moment's hesitation.

Posted Image

Wait, where did she go? Why didn't she say... what was... how do we find...? Did she really just...

Shar-Teel hasn't left me. Has she? No she can't! I rush outside to look for her.

Posted Image

I don't see her anywhere. She couldn't have really... She'll be back. Right? She knows we're going to Baldur's Gate. She's just gone temporarily. Probably.

Gameplay note: Ummm.... Shar-Teel is gone. Permanently. She must be less tolerant of our heroism than Bardo, seeing as how she's evil. Wow. A whole year with us, and yet even after all that, she just walks out the door and doesn't look back. I feel a little bummed out. This also means that other evil characters may refuse to join up with us or leave permanently when we kick them out. We may have to do something about this.

I feel divided on the issue. Half of mine mind is probably singing with joy while the other half sobs in grief. Right now though, right now I'm just numb. I can't believe it. I need... I need Imoen.

Posted Image

Posted Image Sorry to have kept you waiting. Let's get going.

Posted Image You bet! We'll nick ourselves a whole purse o' fun before the night is through!

That we will, apprentice magesis, that we will! I can't help but smile, even through my sadness. She always makes me feel like everything is going to be fine, that Imoen. She's all that family that I really have. I take a deep breath and try to regain control of my emotions. It works surprisingly well, much easier to do in this body than my previous one. Back to business. Let's do this shit.

Yeslick is next in the recruitment list.

Posted Image

Posted Image That is an excellent idea. Your sage advice and company have been missed.

Posted Image A wise move. Together we can't possibly fail.

Yeslick, what you say is undoubtedly true. You just can't be killed, and there's nothing I can't annihilate. We could probably take care of everything, just the two of us.

Then, after the new and familiar faces are done with, I somewhat cautiously approach the final one. I haven't spoken to Jaheira much, actually. Not since the Valley of the Tombs, almost nine months ago.

Posted Image

Ugh.

Posted Image I have need of you, Jaheira, but I would ask you to travel without Khalid, at least for now. The group should not be too large, and we have others who are needed still more.

Posted Image Travel w-without me? Jaheira, are you sure this is w-w-wise?

Posted Image No, Khalid, it is *not* wise. But Syvishtar leads this group, and Gorion would wish us to help him. We will meet again soon.

No sooner do I get her back in the group when Jaheira starts wanting to 'talk.'

Posted Image

Posted Image I have a bad feeling about this...

Posted Image I do not want to pry, Syvishtar, but I am worried about you.

Posted Image You have become a friend, and not only because of my promise to Gorion. Much has changed in your life, as well - you have met Xan, who might not be the perfect choice for someone like you - but I digress.

Posted Image As a friend, I wish to know: are you happy?

I think back to the recent events - drow plotting to kill me, demons running after me, insufferable allies and intolerable enemies. Wave upon wave of monsters throwing themselves at me, my very gender changing with the wind, my friends dying at every turn...

Posted Image No, Jaheira, it is not so. But you care, that it makes me a bit happier.

Posted Image I... see. Blast and damnation, why did we ever search through Mulahey's chambers at all!

I think... I think she's blaming Xan for my unhappiness. Heh. Hehehehehehe. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa *cough* *cough*

Ahem.

Now it is time to equip this party with a selection from my bounteous pocket plane. For I am rich, you see! Naturally I turn to the Sirine first. Not because she's a hottie barely keeping it all covered. Just, you know, she could use some help. "So, what's your name anyways," I ask. She replies immediately in a singsong voice, "Lady Seafoam Wonderbounce, if it please you!" And she follows it up with an extremely suggestive wink and an intoxicating giggle. I find myself taking a closer look at her.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: What I ended up doing was replaying the point where I got Black Bear, Squirrel, and Sirine here, and didn't give them a class or change them in any way. So you can see purestrain Sirine here, with no class, 49 hit points, and Grand Mastery in bows. She also has no character class. We're going to have to vote on that formally at the end of this update. I also tried to give her a name other than Sirine with Shadowkeeper but was unsuccessful.

She tells me, in the most over-the-top and seductive voice imaginable, that all I need to go is give her a bow and I'll never have to worry about anything ever again. I have to laugh at her, just to keep myself from doing more unseemly things to her. She just gives me a knowing smile. She knows her power. Safana was nothing compared to this chick.

I also check in with Black Bear.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This is also the unadulterated Black Bear. No class, no proficiencies. We'll vote on them at the end of this update. I have noticed so far that Black Bear and Sirine both lag behind myself walking around. I guess I never compared NPC and monster walking speeds, but they are actually slower. That is one argument in favor of Monkbear.

And after that I teleport everybody to my pocket plane and we get busy equipping things.

Posted Image

I help Sirine first.

Gameplay note: Turns out that Sirine, without a class, qualifies for pretty much everything. But I don't want to cheat too much, so I'm just going to give her something that makes sense until we can choose a class for her.

First things first. She needs a bow. I give her the Strength Long Bow +3 Vibradeath and her eyes shine. She also gets the Quiver of Plenty for arrows. I'm not sure what kind of armor would work best with her so I give her some Bracers of AC 6 and the Practical Protection robe Thalantyr made. We can equip her better as we learn more about her. I give her the Amulet of Wyvern Summoning, because she's probably going to be in the back all the time. Also for that reason I give her one of the Unfailing Missile Deflector rings, so that other ranged attackers will have a hard time hitting her. I round things off with the Boots of Speed and a Nymph Cloak. I think Imoen has to stop me from staring.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Her thac0 is 3. I think she's going to be more deadly with that bow than Kivan!

Then I turn to Yeslick. He is going to be the backbone of the group, the strong center that keeps everyone together. I set him up with the Full Plate Mail +2, because it protects him best. I also give him two items to boost his toughness - the Helm of the Flame [+2 con] and the Shield of the Falling Stars +1 [+10 hp]. He boost his spells with both the Boots of the Forgotten Ones and the Ankh of Acceptance, because its +1 to Wisdom means an extra 3rd level priest spell, and we need all of those we can get. He also wears the Ring of Fire Resistance and a Ghaunadaur Priest Ring, so that he can be resistant to fire and immune to poison and acid. He has the Cloak of Protection +2 because he can wear it, and finally he has the Improved Girdle Elves' Bane, so that his strength is now 22 and he doesn't have to strain to lug his equipment around. His weapon is his purple mace he's always carrying, Tholin's Ogre Smasher, and he also has a Sling +2 just in case. He looks formidable.

Gameplay note: We are accustomed to having access to level 4 priest spells, but Yeslick doesn't know those yet, so we are running a little low on heals. Hopefully it'll be enough.

Then I turn to who will be Yeslick's companion on the front line, Black Bear. We do manage to outfit him with some types of equipment. We strap on the Full Plate Mail +1, which gives him the best protection out of all the armors. He's got the Gauntlets of Weapon Proficiency too, and the Helm of Glory. We make a collar out of the Bluestone Necklace of Dexterity and hang the Ring of Fire Resistance and a Ring of Protection +1 on it. It seems to work. Finally, he's got the Girdle of Defense and the Cloak of Displacement on him, and strangest of all he seems to be able to wear the Boots of the Forest. He looks like some clown's version of a nightmare.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Black Bear doesn't have a class yet either. We'll have to vote on it. Also right now he has an undroppable, invisible item in his weapon slot called "Attack." After we choose a class for him I'll delete that. But for now he's going to be using that, which I assume is his natural weapon attack.

Jaheira is next. She simply cannot believe all the druid equipment that we have found. She exclaims again and again and makes us recount all of our adventures in the Cloakwood for her. When we get her outfitted, she looks like a queen of the forest.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Holding the Staff of the Forest gives her an extra 15 hit points. Whoever was hoping she'd be chunked, she's only going to be vulnerable when she's holding her crossbow.

The armor she chooses is Nature's Divine, which gives her extra spells. The Gift of the Woods goes on her forearms giving her increased attacks. The Crown of the Archdruid goes on her head, giving her even more spells. And if that wasn't enough, she also wears the Amulet of Faith. Her rings are the druid-only Ring of Fire Shielding and Ghaunadaur Priest Rings, giving her complete immunity to fire, acid, and poison. She wears the Faded Cloak, giving her something similar to invisibility, and Boots of Health, which boost her frailty. In order to safeguard her further she has the Girdle of Bluntness. And the staff she holds is the Staff of Nature.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: The Staff of Nature also must give her increased spells because when she's holding it she's got 12 spell slots! When she isn't, though, she only has 9.

Posted Image

I turn to equip Imoen, but she's already got her own stuff on. She has chosen the Shadow Armor from Amn this time instead of any mage robes, probably for the protection. She's got Mage Bracers which reduce her spellcasting time, and the ioun Stone of Good Luck which increases her thief skills. She wears the Amulet of the Learned and the Ring of Wizardry that gives an extra spell of 1st - 4th level. The other ring gives her Free Action. She doesn't want to be tied down. She is using the Cloak of the Assassin, which protects her and gives her better sneaking, and rounds it out with some speed boots and a Girdle of Bluntness. Her weapons are the same as they always are - the Tuigan Bow +1 and the Serpent Shaft. Also she cribbed two wands.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Girl's got plenty of spells of her own now.

Posted Image

And finally I turn to myself. I already know what I want. the Robe of Dh'arlo'me, Mage Bracers, the Flickering White Ioun Stone, a Ring of Protection +2, the Gnomish Boots, and the Cloak of the Shield keep me safe, mobile, and fast. Ulcaster's Amulet and the Ring of Wizardry 1st thru 5th give me more spells than I know what to do with. I carry Meta Infernum and the Boomerang Dagger, and that allows me to also carry the Teddy Bear of Protection +2 (+4 vs. Demons). The Girdle of Cognizance lets me be whatever gender I want to be. I feel quite confident about my ability to take on anything, anything at all.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: I have memorized 6 more level 1 spells than are displayed in this screenshot. I know 18 level 1 spells.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: I know 4 more level 2 spells than are displayed in this screenshot. I know 16 level 2 spells.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Again 4 more spells than can be displayed. I really feel like I have a chance to experiment with little-known spells now.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: I'm purposefully picking stange and un-optimal spells to try to experiment with them.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: We can finally see what Hold Monster does.

Then rested, equipped, and ready to go, we head out, up the road, for Baldur's Gate!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Yes, I'm drawing this out.

When we arrive at the Coast Way crossroads, it is dark.

Posted Image

I remember, so long ago, this crossroads was my introduction to the wider world. In fact it was just up there that... crap, wolves!

Posted Image

Black Bear and Yeslick rush into the attack. We start killing wolves left and right, and soon they begin to scatter.

Posted Image

The ones that don't, die.

Posted Image

Jaheira seems unhappy with killing animals. Hey, I'm not either, but you gotta do what you gotta do. At least we don't chase the ones that run away.

We keep following the road, and right as we get to the crossroads obelisk we are ambushed again, this time by bandits!

Posted Image

I thought I took care of this problem? Let's try again.

Posted Image

All done. Jaheira looks at me with a gaze of what my actually be fear. I pretend not to notice.

Posted Image

I read the waymarker mostly for nostalgia's sake. The first time I passed by here I was with Xzar and Imoen, running from wolves and scared to death. Now, I travel in confidence and power. I keep smiling all the way north until we run into Davenport.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This must be a consequence of the reinstall I did a long time ago.

Posted Image I don't know you, why don't you get lost!

Posted Image My, you certainly are a hostile individual. My name is Davenport and I am employed by a group that has been contracted by an individual who wishes you dead. Nothing personal, just hold still and it won't hurt.

Not this again.

Posted Image

NOT THIS AGAIN!

Posted Image

NOT!!!

THIS!!!

AGAIN!!!

Posted Image

Jaheira manages to heal me while I am in the fight with the Vortex.

Posted Image

And she is actually the one to kill Davenport too.

Posted Image

But one of the Section thugs pays her back.

Posted Image

All she can do is run away while the Vortex and everyone else tries to take out the last two Section thugs.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Holy crap what are these guys? Was I supposed to take them on at level 1?!?

Posted Image

As the Vortex disappears, and Yeslick and Black Bear run south to try to get away from this evil assassin, Sirine takes him out.

Posted Image

I wake up to a clean battlefield, and a shattered ego. Each of the thugs was wearing Full Plate Mail, wielding Varscona +2 and Excellent Composite Bows, and 5 Elixirs of Health and 4 Potions of Speed apiece. Plus they have Arrows of Ice, Arrows +2, and Arrows +1. Geez, these guys were a nightmare!

Davenport himself is wearing Dragon Armor, Warrior Gloves, the Cutlass +3 Sparks, some potions, a note, and an odd-looking key.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This is some seriously good loot.

The note makes me feel angry. How could someone so dumb come so close to killing me?

Posted Image

And taking a look at the key...

Posted Image

You know what? I'm tired of this bullshit. I'm going to turn right back around and wipe Section off the face of the goddamn map.

When we get back it is day. Bessie the Dirgesinger greets us.

Posted Image

We take a short rest at the Jovial Juggler, and then go see where this Section is. The man standing outside doesn't seem to know anything.

Posted Image

I cast one of my new spells.

Posted Image

Imoen does Mirror Image. And then Yeslick tries to bless us all.

Posted Image

I don't feel very blessed, though. But I shrug it off and use the key. It doesn't work. Imoen picks the lock.

Posted Image

We don't find anything at first, but I'm hopping mad. I burst into the back room and run right into a Section Operative.

Posted Image

Posted Image I hope you've the will to back up those words.

Posted Image That I do! Have at ye!

I slap him in the face with my hand.

Posted Image

Then I throw 3 Minute Meteors at him and he's down.

Posted Image

Imoen and I loot the house, and then we find the stairs down into the Section base.

Posted Image

These guys are all going to die. They pissed me off! We all charge down the stairs... into an ambush.

Posted Image

We could use some help, so I summon some.

Posted Image

I tell everyone to regroup on the other side of the room as my ogres and Imoen's gnolls kill these fools.

Posted Image

Sirine finds one of them behind us and goes with her first instinct, through the Wand of Domination.

Posted Image

The Monk is always out to keep a wild mage down. But the Weave, she speaks to me. Together we work our collective will on this brittle, cracking world.

Everyone is dead soon enough for Jaheira to learn something.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I actually find a lot of stuff in barrels around here. A Chain Mail +1, a Leather Armor +1, a Two Handed Sword +3, and a spell scroll of Wraith Form.

Posted Image

Wow! That's going straight to Firebead!

Imoen finds more stuff around the corner.

Posted Image

She must be angry too, because instead of calling for help she beats him to death with her staff.

Posted Image

Then she disarms a few traps and finds a jackpot!

Posted Image

The ring is a Ring of Protection +1, boring. But the amulet is an Amulet of Thief Skill.

Posted Image

Oooh, perfect for Imoen. She considers it, but then decides to keep her spell amulet for now. I approve. We are going to need a lot of magic against these guys. Then Jaheira uses the Scroll of Protection from Evil 10' radius.

Posted Image

And we go through the obvious hidden door and into deeper levels of this pit of fools!

Posted Image

Posted Image

What? No, they wouldn't have... a mine? NO BEAR DON'T CHARGE THEM!

Posted Image

Before I can do anything, one of the idiots addresses me.

Posted Image

Posted Image Good to hear! I'm sick of your people hounding me, now I am here to put an end to it!

Posted Image Heh, I laugh at your weak attempt of a threat. Jonas, transport them to Committee, now.

And then we are ripped through black space in a way I had never seen before.

And suddenly we are elsewhere.

Posted Image

Some guy speaks to me in a very deep voice.

Gameplay note: It's the voice of The Transcendent One. I won't tell you who it is if you don't know. It's better that way.

Posted Image

Posted Image Why have you been trying to kill me? I have done nothing to you.

Posted Image You're an evil dangerous being that cannot be allowed to exist any further. We would cancel you even if we had not been contacted by a certain group to deal with you. Is that right Madeline?

Posted Image Yes, indeed the subject must be terminated at once. Syvishtar is a danger to all. Cancellation will go forward.

Posted Image Cold as always Madeline that's what I like about you. Logical and to the point.

Posted Image Indeed.

Posted Image Now back to you Syvishtar. Too bad you are evil, you would have made a fine operative. Not just anyone can defeat some of our top operatives, they are the best trained individuals in the Sword Coast region.

Posted Image Why do you keep calling me evil? What have I ever done to you? If anyone around here is evil it's you and your group.

Posted Image We are not evil, we do whatever it takes to accomplish our goals. If we have to kill a hundred innocents to get to one evil being that will in turn save millions, then that's what we will do.

Posted Image Your moral ethics are staggering. Forgive me if I do not hand you a medal for your "noble" work.

Posted Image Indeed.

Posted Image Morals are illogical. They are an emotion and emotions are a flaw that clouds logic. Right Nikita?

Posted Image But Madeline it's emotions that make us rational thinking beings. Even if they are your enemy you should have to feel for them. They could always be turned to the lightness of good and...

Posted Image Yes, yes, we are well aware of your weak sympathy for others Nikita. I wonder why you are still with us.

Posted Image It's because I still complete the job that is assigned to me even if I disagree with it. At least I am not a yes man like Michael.

Posted Image Of course Nikita, anything you say.

Posted Image Enough already! Now stay still Syvishtar this will not hurt... much.

I am going to kill every single person in this room.

Posted Image Bite me! I will not go down quietly.

Posted Image I will teach you much in pain.

Gameplay note: Uh... sorry guys. I had no idea this mod was here. I was certain I was finished with everything outside of Baldur's Gate. I don't even know what this thing is called. I just know that I want to kill these characters HARD.

You should always be careful whom you call evil and teleport into your inner sanctum.

Posted Image

Lest he call up the demons from the pits of hell to slay you.

Posted Image

And even if you Flamestrike him directly, he might brush it off.

Posted Image

And then he might just cast Mirror Image around himself, and stand there and laugh while you are all slaughtered.

Posted Image

Doing, uh... strange things to himself?

Posted Image

Why does the Weave never let me create an entirely good impression? Damnit! Fine, I'll let the Weave have its way with them.

Posted Image

Awww, did Madeline the wittle mageling get eviscerated by a glabwejoooo?

Posted Image

And oh, so sad, did the Weave Fireball the shit out of Paul Wolfe?

Posted Image

One of the Section Operatives tries to get near my team. Sirine plinks him down in a moment, before Black Bear and Yeslick can even get to him.

Posted Image

She does the same thing to Michael Samuelle when he comes around the corner with Paul Wolfe.

Posted Image

Imoen throws a Lightning Bolt at Paul Wolfe, and he is hit hard.

Posted Image

She follows it up with a Magic Missile and he falls.

Posted Image

I think it's time to admit that I've been running scared for a while now. It was the Weave Disturbance, man, it did something to me.

Posted Image

That does in no way diminish my contribution to this fight, namely, the Glabrezu that's ripping everybody apart.

Posted Image

Oh, did da widdle Nikita get her widdle head wipped off by da big glabwezooo?

Posted Image

That demon is really taking care of business, actually.

Posted Image

The rest of the party find more Operatives in the hallways.

Posted Image

And I come to just in time to save myself from a lone Operative.

Posted Image

My sword is really coming alive this fight.

Posted Image

When we return to the scene of Committee, the Glabrezu winks out of existence, leaving a pile of corpses, bones, and equipment.

Posted Image

See? That's what you get for calling me a dangerous evil being, you bastards! Ugh, now I have to loot all these corpses.

I do find some interesting things among the rubble. The first is the Ring of Animal Friendship.

Posted Image

That's nice. Maybe we'll even use it some day. Nikita's body has a Shadow Armor +3, some Boots of Speed, and the Long Sword 'Life'.

Posted Image

Indira might enjoy using this sword. As I make my way through the corpses, I realize that the standard issue loadout for Section Operatives must be a Full Plate Mail Armor, 10 Masterwork Arrows, 10 Arrows +2, 5 Elixirs of Health, 4 Oils of Speed, a Ring of Animal Friendship, an Excellent Long Bow, and an Excellent Two-Handed Sword. Thunderhammer is going to love me!

On what must be Madeline's corpse, there are some spell scrolls, including one of Cloudkill that I give to Imoen. There are some bullets and a sling. She was holding the Sorcerer's Staff +3, the Ring of Archwizardry, the Bracers of Defense A.C. 3, an Amulet of Protection +1, and the Robe of the Neutral Archmagi.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Nice, but pales in comparison to the rings we already have. I pass on it.

Posted Image

I give these to Sirine right away.

Posted Image

This robe would have been great 6 levels ago I think, as I resume looting.

It seems there is also a lower quality Section agent that only has access to plate mail armor, regular two-handed swords, regular long bows, regular arrows, and 2 light healing potions. I pity these guys going up against a demon. They were probably just here for the money. Too bad they served idiots!

I find another pile with unique loot, a Leather Armor +1 and a Wand of the Heavens.

Posted Image

Jaheira gets this.

The next interesting pile of loot has another pair of Warrior Gloves, a Large Shield +1, a Helm of Protection, the Plate Mail "Apocalypse", and Rhea's Bane.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Again, maybe something Indira would like.

The final body with interesting loot on it has a Studded Leather Armor +3, Bracers of the Night, the Long Sword 'Death', and a Ring of Protection +3.

Posted Image

Imoen once again chooses magic over these bracers, even though they look to be made for her previous life. I'm proud of her!

Posted Image

Oooh, Indira could wield the long swords Life and Death in each hand! Cool!

Posted Image

Never heard of one of these before. I stick it on Black Bear's collar to replace the +2 that he has.

Then, of course, there are the other rooms to loot. This place actually looks pretty nice.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This is part of the dwarven halls in Icewind Dale II, isn't it?

But the jackpot is in the next room with the fireplace and the big bed.

Posted Image

We find potions in most of the cubbyholes around here, but in the footlocker by the bed we find Durlag's Crown and Kiel's Full Plate Mail +3.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The crown goes on Black Bear, of course, and the Plate goes on Yeslick.

Then there's nothing left to do, so we go to the one and only exit. We're going to have to fight our way out of here aren't we.

Posted Image

Yes, yes we are.

Posted Image

We all do something magical.

Posted Image

I feel like trying out Explosive Meteors.

Posted Image

They look just like Fireballs. Isn't that cool?

Posted Image

Then I come under fire from a lot of different arrows, so I retreat and try to give myself another Mirror Image. But my hands go through the demon-summoning ritual automatically and before I know it...

Posted Image

We are not protected from evil anymore! RUNNN!!!!

Posted Image

I glance behind us as we leave, and I see that a Cornugon has come this time. And he is not attacking anyone...

Posted Image

I try to go and talk to him but he doesn't even want to speak to me.

Posted Image

So I make my way through growing numbers of Stinking Clouds to try to help out my comrades. But I'm like some kind of magic magnet. I attract more Stinking Clouds and Fireballs too, but they don't hurt me. They just hurt Imoen.

Posted Image

I should stand on my own. I shouldn't draw all this down on my companion's heads. So I do. Over in the friend zone, my bear is fighting valiantly against some dwarf Section Operative.

Posted Image

And over here in the magic zone, I realize that the Cornugon has decided to join the fight!

Posted Image

I get a few Fireballs and Magic Missiles thrown at me, but they do not touch me. Nothing can touch the Golden Avatar of the Weave!

Posted Image

I get a little bit of a break, as one of the Section mages turns around and starts Fireballing the Cornugon.

Posted Image

I wonder what would happen if I dispelled all their magic protections?

Posted Image

They Magic Missile me in return. Never has my Cloak of the Shield seen so much action. That is when I see it in its full glory. A blurred shape stalking in the shadows. A monstrous evil from the beginning of time. The Cornugon has come.

Posted Image

The Cornugon is stalking the poor little Section Operative that is chasing after me. The devil walks right between the two Section mages and one of them tries to hit it with Magic Missile. It only gets his attention.

Posted Image

A Fireball flies out, faster than I would have thought possible. It kills the Operative chasing me.

Posted Image

I just turn around and walk away. I hear the dying screams of the magelings a second later.

Posted Image

The demon is in the center of the room. All we have to do is avoid the center. I do some exploring, healing myself as I go. Where the hell are we?

Posted Image

That's not a way out. Where can we find a way out?

Posted Image

Ahh, okay, over here where my companions are. They're smart sometimes. I tell Imoen that there's a demon in the center of the room, and to go check it out. She goes, but she doesn't see anything.

Posted Image

So I decide to loot the room before we leave. No sense leaving good loot un-looted. The loot is more of the same. The two dwarven Section Operatives have Chain Mail +3 and Throwing Axes +2, but otherwise the rest of the Operative loot is unremarkable. The mage Operatives have scrolls of Summon Monster III. One of them goes to Imoen.

You know, I gotta say. Cleaning up after demons is hard work.

Posted Image

Jaheira has learned a lot today. She is uncharacteristically quiet.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

She's also out of crossbow bolts, so she's going to be meleeing with her staff.

Let's get out of here.

Ugh. Not more minions. I try to kill them as quickly as possible.

Posted Image

The magic does not go as planned.

Posted Image

The large number of gnolls that show up are much better than a silly Azragan's Channeling anyways.

Posted Image

Jaheira keeps getting hit by some dude in the corner so she Flamestrikes him with her wand.

Posted Image

One priestly Section Operative tries to Hold some of us, but it doesn't stick. I just do it right back at him, and it works!

Posted Image

Then I reach high through the Weave for a spell that will solve all of our problems.

Posted Image

But the Weave is creative, not destructive, today, and gives us what it will.

Posted Image

But as I try again, one of these bastards gets lucky on a hit on Black Bear, and he dies!

Posted Image

Oh no! Not Black Bear!

Gameplay note: Really sorry about this guys but he was proving to be extremely squishy. I don't know why but he kept getting hit all the time and drank the majority of our healing potions before going down.

Posted Image I've lost too many clan-mates already! Must I lose these as well?

Then the little bastard that killed Black Bear also hits me and makes me lose my spell. That little fucker!

Posted Image

Imoen shoots Magic Missiles at him...

Posted Image

Jaheira Flamestrikes him...

Posted Image

And I fry him with the Lightning Wand.

Posted Image

I send the gnolls to plug the hallway where the bad guys will theoretically come through if they ever break my Hold spell.

Posted Image

And then just stand there and watch as they are cut down by stinky, smelly, humanoid dogs.

Posted Image

It is immensely satisfying.

Posted Image

And I hope that bitch Lillian Darkwater can't survive against them either!

Posted Image

Crap, two gnolls down! I'm going to have to give them backup. With a scroll of Monster Summoning III, I call in some Ogre Berserkers.

Posted Image

Meanwhile, Yeslick is learning how to be a better cleric.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

And he insists that we really need to help our boys. So we all go in to offer support.

Posted Image

I try to cast a Chromatic Orb...

Posted Image

But instead I get a Fireball, right at my feet. And instead of hurting the enemy I kill Imoen.

Posted Image

Oh my god. No. No it can't be. I keep fighting. Jaheira Flamestrikes a fool and I Lightning Bolt him too.

Posted Image

It is not enough. It is never enough. He fires several bolts at me, hurting me. I fire a Chromatic Orb at him again.

Posted Image

When Jaheira Flamestrikes him once more, then he dies.

Posted Image

And that just leaves Lillian Darkwater.

Posted Image

I throw random magic at her. I don't even care what it is.

Posted Image

The grief bears down on me and I feel like I cannot even stand.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I don't even know what I think I'm doing.

Posted Image

Everything I do just gets people killed.

Posted Image

Jaheira says she can be a better Priest of Sylvanus now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Somehow I find that disgusting. As I am looking at the floor, definitely not at the body of my dead friend Imoen, Yeslick comes up to heal me.

Posted Image

Nothing happens. Is his god so disgusted with me that divine magic won't even touch me? Surely I am cursed beyond the ken of mortal men. I start popping healing potions as I go through the mechanical motions of looting everything. And, as if to taunt me, my ogre berserker comes up to stand next to me in a protective formation before gurgling and dropping to the ground, dead as well.

Posted Image

Death. Death everywhere around me. I loot, but my heart isn't in it. Lillian Darkwater has a sword named after her stupid, dumb organization.

Posted Image

She also has a wardstone.

Posted Image

She wears the Full Plate Mail of Flame and another Girdle of Defense.

Posted Image

I give this to Yeslick. He now is completely immune to Fire, as Jaheira is. Lillian Darkwater was also carrying a mug of De'Tranion's Baalor Ale.

Posted Image

I'll drink this later, when we get out of here. There are two locked cabinets in a kitchen-like place. I don't even have the strength to ask, but Yeslick just rips them off their hinges anyway.

Posted Image

Boots of the North, Bracers of Defense AC4, and Fast Boots of Protection.

Posted Image

The boots go to Sirine. I open up the inevitable secret passage door only to find more Section Operatives hiding behind it.

Posted Image

We kill them.

Posted Image

Yet another lone Operative dies to Yeslick while in the midst of drinking a healing potion. Ouch!

Posted Image

We kill more in the storage rooms.

Jaheira once again realizes something she never knew before.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gameplay note: Being a multi-class with two different advancement tables means that she levels up a lot.

These storerooms are full of potions, ammunition, a spare Varscona +2, and even spell scrolls.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This is the first time any modder or regular game designer has bothered to put loot in these boxes. My estimation for this particular mod has gone up!

Then it's back to killing more and more Operatives.

Posted Image

I try to turn one into a squirrel, but instead I get...

Posted Image

Yeah, I already knew this place. There must be some discount contractor who is really great at churning out evil lairs.

Posted Image

Jaheria gets into some trouble, but Yeslick saves her.

Posted Image

Then she Flamestrikes the last one.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: There are still 93 charges on that Flamestrike wand. She's pretty much set.

Posted Image 'Tis just like the tunnels of my old clan.

Yes, yes it is, Yeslick. You're exactly right.

A thiefly Section Operative tries to backstab me. We kill him.

Posted Image

Gameplay note: This mod does seem rather interesting, in that we were instantly teleported to the end of the dungeon and fought all the bosses first. Then we proceeded through the rest of the maps backwards. Instead of doing deeper in we are simply trying to get the hell out.

Posted Image

Oh for the love of the Weave...

Posted Image

Yeslick, how many clan halls did you guys make anyway?

Posted Image

I'm not sure I even want to record this. It is just the same as it has always been. But I promise, I will wipe Section off the face of Faerun and I will make sure none of them ever come back again.

Wait, what is attacking me?

Posted Image

Shadow warriors will not stop me.

Posted Image

Ambushes will not stop me.

Posted Image

Evil dwarves will not stop me.

Posted Image

I will get out of here. Jaheira will level up again.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

We can get past the Ashirukuru.

Posted Image

We can kill these Operatives...

Posted Image

And we can get out of here. Who cares if we didn't kill everybody yet?

Posted Image

It don't matter that you're on the bridge. It doesn't matter that I can't cast spells.

Posted Image

We are just getting out of this place!!!

Posted Image

As soon as we can, I make everyone drink Potions of Invisibility.

Posted Image

Then we go for the exit.

Posted Image

I'll come back and kill all of these people some other time. I just want to go to Baldur's Gate now. Come on!

When we get to the Song of the Morning Temple, we sell all the crap I dragged up from Section. To my surprise, I end up getting 76,000 gold from it! Wow, that place is a gold mine! I have no problems resurrecting Imoen and Black Bear.

Gameplay note: Oh my god, nothing went as planned this update. This thing is already over the character limit and I haven't even gotten to Baldur's Gate. Plus Black Bear is dead, Imoen is dead... I have never been so tempted to reload. But that's what playing Ironman is all about. Damnit. Okay. Let's do something at least. Let's vote on Black Bear's and Sirine's classes, because they have to level up!

First, we have Black Bear. You can't see it because he doesn't have a class, but the bear has got 10,586 xp. He's going to level up, but if he levels up without a class, pretty much nothing will happen. So which class should he be?

A. Berserker - Berserkers are in touch with their animalistic side, and no one is more in touch with that than bears. RAWR!
B. Monk - Monks are fast-moving, robe-wearing, fist-punching juggernauts of destruction. Bears are slow, fuzzy, claw-attacking juggernauts of destruction. Putting the two together would be awesome.

Then we have Lady Seafoam Wonderbounce, Incorporated:

She has 25416 xp. She will always have 5 stars in bows because she's a Siren. But she needs to spend xp on a class, so what class should we give her?

1. Beguiler - We saw a Beguiler in action with Fabio back in Restenford. It is a bard whose bard song charms enemies. Sounds like a perfect match with a siren.
2. Sorceress - She could be in touch with the magic and cast spells innately. She's got a high charisma too, which may make you feel better about that, even though sorcerers don't need any high stats for anything in this game.
3. Archer - She's good with a bow, why not make that her schtick?

And I'd like to say, I know it is hard to lose Shar-Teel, Imoen, and Black Bear all in one update, and I'm really sorry about that. But, as a token of apology, I'd like to point out that I did earn 75,000 gold and summon TWO demons this update, one on purpose and one accidentally. Surely that's something, right?

edit: OH WAIT! There's one more issue that we should vote on, which is our reputation. Because we are Heroic with a 19 rep, Shar-Teel left us. Other evil characters will also presumably leave us when we kick them out. I'm not sure who, exactly. Maybe Edwin, and he's slated to be in our group next update. Maybe Kagain, next time he comes in. Maybe they won't join up, even! So what should we do about this? Should we lower our reputation to Popular to keep hold of all our army?

Yes - We don't really care that much about being a hero. Let the world think less of us. Money is no object now anyway.
No - We're freakin HEROES, man! Legends! We can't give up on that just because some of our friends wouldn't like it.
The Monk is always out to keep a wild mage down. But the Weave, she speaks to me. Together we work our collective will on this brittle, cracking world.

B. Bear should be a Monk, no question.

1. Beguiler fits the theme.

Yes -- I told you! *shakes fist* But yeah, once you do some quests in Baldur's Gate you gain like seventy billion reputation anyway. Maintaining it around 15 will keep everyone reasonably happy, I think.
