If I choose to start a new BG2 game as mage, I wont get to choose spells other then the ones I choose at level 1 when creating the character.

This leaves my character rather gimped and its not what I remember from BG2 (orignial) back in the days. I realize that the idea is to continue from BG1 and thus you will have your spellbook filled, but I played a different class in BG1 and wanted to try something else now in BG2.

Out of curiosity, if you play the game by starting a new BG2 game, why do you use BGT? If you start a new BG2 game, there is no additional continuity by BGT. If the spell-selection problem occurs due to BGT, you could just try to play ordinary BG2 without the mod.

Well, the mod itself says that it allows starting the game in both locations... and it works fine for nearly everyone, except multiplayer start in BGII... and magic users.
Should you know, the game cannot be installed twice, thanks to the lame cheese Windows InstallShield that prevents installing the ToB twice. (this too can be by passed)

The multiplayer can be by passed by first starting the single player BGII game, and copying the save folder from the <gamefolder>/mpsave/ to the <gamefolder>/save/ .

Yes I did try to install a 2nd batch of BG2+ToB and as stated it doesnt work unless you want to break your BGT installation.

But good to know its not only me who has this problem then. Maybe I need to replay BG1 with a mage then. Not really that much of a problem really.

Reasonable. I'll try and work something out in regards to picking spells.

I'd just like to point out (although I'm guessing you guys already know it) that this also affects Bard characters as well, as I've mentioned in this thread...

just my 2 cents. I hope you work something out.

p.s. would a viable solution be to add an item somewhere in the Irenicus' Dungeon (possibly near the PC's cage) which would let him pick a few spells for his spellbook?
I know it sounds dirty, but I'm not really experienced with modding, and this does sound like a tricky issue... meh. Ignore me, this was probably stupid.
Only the best is good enough.

When playing multiplayer as a mage, my spellbook is grayed out, both in BG2 and in SoA. How can I fix this.

Specs: Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Group Internal chipset, also I bought the 4 in 1 box set

Are you playing BGT?
Does it also happen if you play vanilla BG2?

Did you try to start the game? Because that is normal behaviour for BGT. When you create your character you only can pick level 1 spells, then when the game starts you can continue with spell picking before Irenicus arrives.
