Pardon me, I've been lurking around this forum off-and-on for the past few years (more off than on), and was just wondering if this mod is dead or not. It'd be a shame to see it die, it's a great concept, but of course real life doesn't always cooperate with modding fun, and this is probably a very involved mod.

What's going on with Khadion? Maybe it would be a good idea to release 0.9 version or find some new people who would be eager to help? I suppose SConrad is busy with some other stuff and he won't step onto the scene soon...if ever.

What's going on with Khadion?

At the moment, nothing much. I keep thinking and talking about him, but there are only so many hours in a day and days in a week.

Maybe it would be a good idea to release 0.9 version

No. Khadion will either be released as a full release, or not at all.

or find some new people who would be eager to help?

For the time being, no further help is necessary.

I suppose SConrad is busy with some other stuff and he won't step onto the scene soon...if ever.

That's a bit pessimistic. :)

Oh... It's nice to see you! And I should have expected that kind of answer, heh. So maybe at least give us a screenshot or two? A portrait...?
I wish you had more time... the mod sounds exciting.

SC has always been a perfectionist :)

Its not about how much work he has done, its about if the work that is done is up to the (ie his) mark... at least that's what I gather.

So maybe at least give us a screenshot or two? A portrait...?

The only thing "teaser content" can possibly accomplish is to stir up interest, which in turn will create more pressure on me to finish the mod. As time goes on, however, that interest will fade away and the mod will return to this state of limbo.

Basically, we'd end up just where we are right now, only with a period of additional pressure in between--that's not what Khadion needs. That's not productive.

You might get teaser content at some point, but only when the mod's ready to be released.

Its not about how much work he has done, its about if the work that is done is up to the (ie his) mark... at least that's what I gather.

Exactly. Khadion will only be available to the public when I deem it "finished." That means no SoA-only content. No public betas. No half-baked, half-finished, half-assed releases.

Why? I'm not making Khadion for the community or the players or anyone else; I'm making it for myself. I have invested a great deal of time, effort and emotion into it. I've had a close relationship with this project for years--a closer and deeper relationship than any other project I've been a part of.

If this means the mod won't be released, even though players may enjoy what's already been produced, then so be it. There's plenty of other mods to choose from.

Perhaps you'd call that selfish, but I'd argue that I've made larger and more significant contributions to the modding community than just this one mod. You're reading this on a website that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for me.

I understand :) Asking for some prewievs was quite stupid, since I myself avoid showing any teaser. Well, I posted some on my website, but to be honest lots of those mentioned over there as in-progress mods are finished in at least 75-85%. I never create any discussion threads, because the project is mine and I'm usually not going to make any big changes unless I believe in them (obviously I don't mean proofreading - it's essential :P ). Even when I posted info about Varshoon, he was already finished in 80% :P

So again - I understand. Also I know you won't accept the offert but - I may somehow help you like...in testing etc. That's just to point I'm actually quite interested in this mod :)

Would you hazard a guess of the % completed of the mod so far?

To me it's not a matter of how much is completed. Teasers will come when the mod is ready to be released, and only then. Period.

Also I know you won't accept the offert but - I may somehow help you like...in testing etc. That's just to point I'm actually quite interested in this mod :)

I appreciate the offer. But like I said previously, what the project needs is not an extra pair of hands, it's for the hands it's already got to produce.

We will likely require (closed) beta testers, and there will be a call for that when we're ready for it. If you want to help test, talk to me when we're at that point. Until then, however, I'm afraid there's just nothing you (or anyone else) can do.

Would you hazard a guess of the % completed of the mod so far?

I don't measure mod progress with percent.

Sure, it might be easy to say "number of dialogues/banters written" or something like that), but that's very superficial. You could have one dialogue accounting for a disproportionate amount of time or effort which, in turn, would make any sort of percentage useless. 25% of the dialogues could easily account for 75% of the effort--and often do.

In any case, it's not close. I'm fairly certain that there have been more words written for Khadion than most NPC mods, but the flipside is that I likely would qualify as one of the most brutal editors you've ever met. As a result, a majority of all dialogue written for Khadion has been scrapped. I'm still not happy with the plot--one that has undergone multiple transformations already--and until I'm satisfied with the plot, it's impossible to determine how much content is needed.

Having said that, this is not to say that a few weeks of intensive and focused development wouldn't take the mod close to completion. It's just a matter of finding time and inclination to do that.

Yes, yes it would.
"The soul should know whither it is going and whence it came, what is good for it and what is evil, what it seeks and what it avoids, and what is that Reason which distinguishes between the desirable and the undesirable, and thereby tames the madness of our desires and calms the violence of our fears." -Seneca

"How can I live my life if I can't even tell good from evil?" - Fry "Eh, they're both fine choices. Whatever floats your boat." -Bender (Futurama)

Perception equals reality.
