Hello--

Title says all. When I scroll around in P:S, the fog of war flickers like a strobelight. This only happens if I have the widescreen mod installed. Without the mod, it works fine. (With the widescreen mod, the cursor also seems to be slightly laggy--perhaps 15fps.) EDIT: The lag spontaneously resolved. Flicker is still present.

I've installed the directdraw fix and it didn't change anything.

The only weakness with my system is that I'm using integrated graphics, but they are essentially equivalent to a high-end discrete card from 2002. Such a card should have no trouble rendering 1999 graphics.

(Win7 32bit, Core 2 Duo, 3gb DDR, x3100 integrated graphics)

What resolution are you using ? And have you tried changing it to a different that the first time ? Also, open the Tormant.ini file with Notepad and copy paste the text to a post... put it into the spoiler tags, like so:

So it produces this:

1280x800. Side note, I confirmed that the same thing happens when I add the widescreen patch to BG2 if i disable 3d acceleration.

I do not understand the 2nd question. If you are asking whether I confirmed that the flicker disappears upon uninstalling the widescreen patch, the answer is yes.

Here is the ini. The one direct change I made was increasing the maximum frame rate to 60, which of course did not solve the problem and just made everyone walk faster.

I do not understand the 2nd question.

Well, have you tried setting the resolution to 1024x640, to 960x600 or to 768x480? If the 1280x800 is the native resolution ration(1.6:1).
The latest works at least in Widescreen mod-ed BGII.

I have had the same flickering bug in IwDII...

Thank you for the reply! No, I have not tried other non-vanilla resolutions. I will do so and update this post.

You said you observed the flickering in ID2 (thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy :) ), but not in BG2. Do you have 3d acceleration enabled in BG2? If so, this would explain why you are not seeing the flickering, because the 3D acceleration renders the fog differently in BG2 (and is not available in P:T).

Yes, of course... that or the 16 to 32 bit perpixel difference.

thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy :)

Well, there's a lot of crazy-es here, you might just think you are seeing the same visions that I am.

:whistling: From the thread in G3:

I did not realize how active and unified the P:T community is!

Well, I just happen to be the one guy that visits both places... actually there are others, I just am the loudest.
Or then it just happens to be that we host the PS:T GUI and the associated DDFix, while the G3 hosts the Widescreen mod.

Just kidding about the above craziness.

Jarno Mikkola is a GENIUS!! The flickering does NOT occur at 800x600 or 1024x768. It DOES occur at 1280 x 600, which renders fewer total pixels than 1024 x 768, indicating that the effect isn't simply a "pixel overload." (As previously stated, it also occurs at 1280 x 800). Two possible explanations--one is that certain width values trigger flickering; other is that non-4:3 resolutions trigger flickering. If my monitor supported more resolutions, I would test them.

This is still ruining my life, btw. I will continue to post in this thread until I solve the problem completely or until Bigg himself calls me an "ungrateful brat." Must be those exact words.

Also, if Jarno wishes to replicate the flickering in BG2 (why would he want to, though), he should disable 3d acceleration.

EDIT: Jarno, what resolution were you using in ID2?

EDIT: Jarno, what resolution were you using in ID2?

1920 x 1200 with Widescreen Mod v2.31, the video card is ATI Radeon HD4890 1GB GDDR5.

I'll go and test the newest WSM with other resolutions...
Well, the 1650 x 1050 resolution didn't flicker, as much, but the fog of war looked totally different like.. it had spots in it that were more lighter than the surroundings. When I took a screen shot, it had no such spot in it, which tells that it has to do with the monitors graphical processing, not the game or the mod itself.

Whoa, wait a tic. Any particular reason for using 2.31 instead of 3.05?

(Might I also clarify that I am still suffering immensely. Being unable to fully utilize the brilliant WSM is a tragedy that I would wish on no one. I was once a starving child sick with malaria; it was not as bad as having to use 4:3 resolutions. Someone plz help. [kidding, of course. but a fix would be nice.])

Well, there was time before the Widescreen mod v3.05 . :D
The install is actually from 2010... but I rechecked and it happens with the new version of the mod too. So...

Well, the first and only course of action that's going to help with this is... wait it. A new monitor.

I think I finally encountered the fog of war flickering issue in PST. For me it only happens when I lock view on the PC and the map auto-moves. The fog of war flickers then. Otherwise, it doesn't flicker at all.

Yes, the best way to observe the effect is to lock the view on your character and then walk around.

What resolution / OS are you using? I'm wondering if it happens at all non-4:3 resolutions.

Thanks.

I'm thinking I'm going to try to playing BGII in GemRB and see if widescreen is still associated with flickering. I've settled on 1024x768 for playing PS:T, which is more enjoyable than native.
