Hi again. Last time I posted everyone was super helpful in solving a problem I was having with the mod that turns BG1 and BG2 into one entity, so here's hoping this time goes as smoothly.
edit - I should probably mention in addition to the mod that merges both games, I'm using the bg2 tweaks thing, and some kind of fix pack as well as the widescreen mod.
The
WeiDU.log in the game directory contains all information that anyone trying to help requires... so open the file with Notepad and copy paste it to a post. But it might not matter... anyways.
- What level should I dual to mage? (I've read 9, 10, and 11, and don't know which is right.)
It totally depends on what you want to do with the character, but usually the 11 is best because thieves cap their hitpoint at that level, after which they gain the miserable +2 at level up. The other thing is that the thieves really need their thief skills, especially if you install the thieving in heavy armor tweak. Swashbucklers especially want to have the level 10 because they want to have the
AC &
Thac0 bonus.
- If anyone knows of a good resource explaining proficiencies for each class in noob terms I would appreciate it. I tried playing a fighter but had no idea how to spec her.
Zero starts, un-proficient, you have
thac0 penalty depending your base class when using the weapon. So it's better that you don't. For Warriors(Fighters, Barbarians, Rangers, Paladins & their Kits and Multi & Active Dual classes) it's minor by 1. For Thieves/Bards and Clerics/Druids it should be 2 and Mages suffer the most by 3 or the like.
The one star removes that penalty, but there is no bonuses either.
Two stars give the user bonus, to
Thac0 and depending the rule system, bonus to damage, and the warrior also get bonus 1/2 attack per round bonus.
- When I dual to mage, where should I put my proficiencies?
If you want the most out of them, you avoid the once you put the thieves proficiencies, as you gain them back later when you re-activate the class by gaining +1 level on the dualed class than that of the original class, just like you gain all the thieves skills.
- Should I have more than 3 proficiency bubbles or whatever by level 11? Because I don't. :/
By the normal rules, you cannot put three start to any proficiency class except the "Two Weapon Fighting Style" which is a good investment if you intent to use two weapons because the
APR bonus, and the
thac0 penalty is only for one weapon then. But if you don't intent to use the two weapons...
Now, what comes to the dual classing, you can already probably know the good side, but in solo run when you need to reach the mage level 12 to gain the thieves skills back, it's going to be hard. As it's 750 000xp.
