Stuck in the Cage

I know this problem has been discussed before, but I tried the ARAM00.BCS files and am still standing in the cage waiting for Imoen.  The problem started when I talked to Belt and transitioned.  It worked the first time, but Imoen was her usual Thief/Mage.  I think I used Level 1 NPCs a long time ago to make her a straight thief, so I was surprised and disappointed that she had reverted.  I poked around and learned that I just needed to replace her Imoen6, 10, 211 and 213.CRE files with the Thief ones from the Mod folder and she would change.  Well, it worked at first, and she was a first level straight thief with 80k XPs, but when I leveled her up, she turned into a Thief/Mage again.  I tried replacing her CREs again, and now she won't come out.  I tried all three ARAM00.BCS files I saw in the fora but she's still a no show.  Is there an easy fix?

Are you sure you are not using one of the incompatible "Faster chapter 1&2 cut scene" components from a few mods ?

No, I am not sure of that. Which are the few that do that? (And is it not significant that it seemed to work fine before I replaced the Imoen.CRE files?)

The once that say they do... Open up the WeiDU.log in your game directory with Notepad. -_-
The "MTS Crappack..." mod has such a component, as does the

- BG2 Tweak Pack v3 or above
DO NOT install Components #3140 or #3141 - Faster Chapter 1&2 Cut-Scenes and Dreams; destroys NEWGAME.BCS

It's in the pinned thread.

(And is it not significant that it seemed to work fine before I replaced the Imoen.CRE files?)

It could be that you broke the scene yourself by doing that, so it is significant yes.

OK, I just checked, and I do not have either of those BG2Tweak components installed (#3140 or #3141), nor the MTS Crappack.

I don't suppose you made a backup from the files you altered the first time ?
As it would be easy to change the original Imoen to what you want her to be with a savegame editor, the ShadowKeeper.

Stupidly, I did not. But I did try replacing those Imoen.CRE files with unmodded ones from a buddy's install, but she still doesn't walk out and open the cage. I don't care about altering her any more, if I can just get my game to work again.

I am sensing a reinstall in my future. Can anybody send me Imoen211.CRE and Imoen213.CRE? My buddy mentioned above could not find those in his override folder. That's the only thing left I can think of to try.

Well, you can always delete(/move) the existing files from the override folder so the game loads the originals that it stores in the .bif packages.

OK, I tried removing the four .CRE files I had copied into the override folder and reloading my save from before the transition, but still no Imoen.

OK, so I have reinstalled and started a new game and am quite happy with everything, EXCEPT the respawning monsters. In my old installation, I had that turned off somehow, but now, evry time I walk around the Gnoll Stronghold, more gnolls appear. I have looked and looked but cannot remember how I turned that off before. Can anybody remind me?
