Hello,

So I wanted to disable the item shattering after installing BWP v10 last night with 'standard' and seeing my armor and shield SHATTER in the game today, which I wanted to disable right away. So i ran Setup-BGTTweak.exe, skipped the 1st option for non-installed options and answer A for ask for the already installed components. Sure enough I got to the part where it gave me a choice for the shattered items and I chose option 1, to not have item and armor shattering in game.

This is where something weird began to happen. My hard drive began thrashing like it was doing a wild search and then I got a whole BUNCH of files uninstalled for some reason.

I got this at the end of the run:

SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED [Make armor and shields shatter] (component #1502)

Installing [Remove item shattering] [9 (31 Dec 09)]

So now I don't know if my BWP installation is completely screwed up or what...

Anyone have this occur? Also, why is the shatter option installed by default in the 'standard' install? I think this is a major thing to enable without the user knowing...

I just started playing BG1, so I would appreciate any help with this, I don't want to end up with a broken save game later on.

PS
This just broke my entire installation.....

BG2 won't launch anymore.... :(

The BG2 mods that you have installed can be uninstalled one by one, but all the other mods components need to be uninstalled before, and then reinstalled after... which is a bad news for you.
Yes, it will brake the entire game, as there's no way the BWP can be redone correctly after ~100 components have been uninstalled, and there's even the possibility that a mod made a few of those files permanently fixed.
Time to rerun the whole install and this time choose what you want more carefully.

And by the way this has nothing to do with the BGT, but BWP.

Thanks for the reply Jarno. Ok I understood. One question, then. I installed BGW with the 'standard' option and all the mods therein. How would I prompt the BGTTweak mod to ask me whether I want armor/shield to be perishable? I got no such prompt during the BGW installation.

Now, I'm doing the reinstall. I will be smarter this time and backup the directory before i make any "experiments".

So my question is, if I want to disable the armor/shield perishable option after BGTTweak has installed. Can I simply run the Setup-BGTTweak.exe select to uninstall everything. Then run it again and install only the options I want?

I know this is quiet dumb as I can probably not select BGTTweak mod in the first place, and then run it after BGW installation is complete selecting only the options I want...

But I'll get it, still learning. :)

Ok, I just learned that this armor/shield breaking isn't such a big problem. Since it only happens to regular armor/shields! Which is ok with me. It's even interesting and makes sense hehe :-) Since magical armor/shields are of a completely different quality and craftsmanship.

The only reason I was spooked by this mod was that I didn't want my Balduran helm to be breaking on me or my Drizzt armor to disappear after all the slaying...

I'd still like to learn how I can prompt certain mods changes to options when I'm doing a "standard" install of BGW.

I also learned how to modify the batch file to select the options I want and won't have these problems in the future.

Thanks a lot to everyone for such an AWESOME project.

No, like said, you won't want to go and install, uninstall and reinstall the mod components... yes as the modification tool you use to edit the game files in the mod installs was made to give you back usable backups, there are exceptions to those actions and you'll run into lot of them in a install this large.

Well, the .bat install editing is really the only way to select the components and what not... see the number 1502 in:
Call %INST% BGTTweak "1200 1300 1502"
That's the installed component that makes the items break, when you replace it with 1501, the items won't break anymore.

Yes. Thank you.

So I reinstalled everything last night and am back in the game. I'm having some slightly funny issues however. Just two I noticed so far, but not sure what will happen later on in the game.

So the first issue is the new NPC that is found upstairs of Friendly Arms Inn, he used to have a normal name and I was able to interact, but after reinstalling everything again and going back there, this is what I find:

AND THIS!:

Not sure, but I guess this means that something went nuts in my save game...

Also in the smithy, in Beregost, there are now FOUR regular smiths who all refer me to the newly added NPC smith in there (forgot his name). It all works, but I remember seeing only one helper smith in there originally.

Well yeah, no body said your save game will be safe after you reinstall. As you probably changed something, the text gets reindexed and the saves store the wrongly indexed characters, items, the works.

Well, you aren't very far in the game yet... so I would suggest that you should restart with a new game from character creation.

I guess that would be best. Even though I haven't seen any other anomalies yet. But it seems to involve heavy duty tying between all the components. So i'll do that. Can I at least use my exported character? I really don't want to reroll the stats.

Cheat. :naughty:

NB. While the console is enabled, the following cheat is also enabled.
At the stat distribution screen, pressing CTRL+8 will yield maximum stat value.

And then you can lower the stats you don't wish to cheat on, but then again, you are already cheating, so why not go all the way.

It's mostly a question of what's been changed and what your character is in the game, say you use a custom kit... the whole character can get eviscerated by another kits effects etc. The spell casters can have their neat spell book turn out to be a pile of random item descriptions.

Thank you for the impish suggestion. I actually used Cheat Engine to get the same stats I had

I'm almost back to where I was. Thankfully that NPC at Friendly Arms Inn is no longer the shield of Balduran +3 :whistling:

It was almost a good thing I reinstalled everything. Learned a lot in the process.

Thanks for the CLUA link.
