Hi guys , this is my first post so please be gentle!

I heard about the BWP some time ago. I've been a big fan of the BG series since it first came out. Having completed it several times unmodded, I feel I am now ready for a new experience!

I would just like advice , along with an idiot's guide to modding the trilogy in the best way possible. If someone could give me a steo-by-step instruction on how to do this , and what mods to use that will be compatible with each other I'd be really grateful.

I have managed to successfully update my copy of PT, so am not totally useless, but the step-by-step instructions I got were definately required.

Thanks in advance

Basically, you download BWP 10

http://kerzenburg.ba....eu/bwpmods.php

Install Baldur's Gate + TotSC + Baldur's Gate II + ToB, patch them to latest official patches and run the installer. Might require to have the Installpack as well...or it downloads it automatically, don't remember.

Anyway, BG2 should be installed in it's default directory, i.e. the Baldur's Gate II - SoA part should be intact.

Then you let the installer run it's course and probably just stick to the recommended installation without any further changes.

Install the BG + TotSC to somewhere, and the BG2 in somewhere else...
I also warn to not install the games to their default directory ... if you have one of the late versions of the Windows'es as the game is not certified for them, so the Program Files folder files cannot be changed by anything, not even the official patches.
Here's a few notes on it.

The BWS downloads all the stuff it requires to install...
And the games need to be installed fully, so they take about 2.5 Gb's each.

Thanks for the replies , I will have a go this weekend. Is BWP the best mod for the BG series? And are there any other mods that I should install as well? It's just so confusing , I had no idea there were so many! Ijust want to squeeze as much in as I can , but make sure that it's all compatible.

Is BWP the best mod for the BG series?

It's not a mod, the BiG World Project is a compilation project that tries to make all of them compatible. Well, except not all of them...

It consists of an Auto-Setup tool, and auto-install tool and other tools the Auto-setup tool downloads. So you need to only have a clean etc BG2 game, and the setup tool and internet connection, as the auto-setup tool downloads the files it needs. A bit more info on that...

Thanks once again.

Well, I've installed all the games fully , and patched them. Then I downloaded the BIG World Setup and ran it. It confirmed the games were there and after some minor adjustments (a file hadn't copied for some reason) it accepted and installed. However I have a couple of questions:

1. How do I know the modifications are working? I started the game as normal, but nothing seems to be different. Now I'm assuming most of the changes will only take place mid-game, but how do I know they are 'in there'? And are there changes both to BG1 and BG2 or just BG2?

2.Do I play the games as normal , or are there other quests available? Will these become apparent as I play the game?

3. I assume I play GB1 to it's natural conclusion, then what? Will my characters and their possessions now be transferrable to BG2?

I'm sorry if any of these questions seem silly , and I apologise if all of the answers to my questions can be foun d elsewher on this site or in 'read mes'.

Thankyou for your time and patience.

The BWS only changes the BGII game, so there is no alterations in the BG1, as the BGT is used to copy the important files from BG1 to the BG2 game ... so go and start the BG2 game.
13. Starting the BGT'ed/BWP'ed/BWS'ed game.

Thankyou for all your help. It is now installed , and I have set off once again upon my quest!

One question I have though is that in the first 2 chapters there are several characters whose dialogue is in German. As I do not speak this language , is there any way I can 'fix' this, and are there many instances in the game of non-English speaking characters? At the moment I just click random responses to get through , but am worried I may be missing out on quests or damaging my in-game reputation.

Well, you probably installed one of the German only mods, there's few, I forgot which caused a lot of this kind of this actions in the past... but the English only flag in BWS should remove that.

Ah yes , I can see where I have gone wrong, thankyou. So I uninstalled everything, reinstalled from scratch selecting the option to exclude non-English mods. However I am now having problems installing!

First I get this message:

The extraction of the following mod(s) failed:
Sword Coast Stratagems 16: The Mod itself (scs-v16.exe)
Sword Coast Stratagems II 15: The Mod itself (scsII-v15.exe)

Some files were not extracted.
Do you want to open the files in your default-packager to try it yourself?
(Look at the notes in the help-text on the right side.)
Enter [y]es or [n]o.
Sword Coast Stratagems 16

If I choose 'n' I get this

The Installation should be able to run properly.
Missing mods, which were needed, can ruin the installation.
Check if you need the mods, which you could not extracted.
Do you want to remove the mods, which the "BiG World Setup" could not extract, from the installation-list for safety reasons?
(Note: If you could extract the listed mods for your own then choose "N" to let them in the installation-list.)
Enter [y]es, [n]o or [c]ancel.

If I choose yes OR no from here I get this message:

'The installation cannot continue without a current version of WeiDU

An unpacked WeiDU-archive is needed in your BG2-path.Please fetch it from this site.

After you extracted the files c:\BWP\BGII - SOA\Weidu\WeiDU.exe has to be present'

I then select continue and the installation stops!

Please help , it takes about an hour or so to get to this stage , and I do not know what I am doing wrong , as it worked fine first time around.

Do I need to start my installation from scratch again?

Hi guys, can anyone help me with this please?

I tried to reinstall again , this time a complete reinstall to a different directory , but still the same message?

Do you think it will work if I leave the non-English mods in there?

Have you tried to manually download this(direct download link!) archive and then extract that to the game directory, s the WeiDU.exe is there ? As that's the latest version of it.

Thankyou for your assistance.

I've downloaded the file and copied the contents into my SOA folder, then run 'Big_World_Setup'. Was that the right thing to do?

I just cannot understand why it all installed fine the first time around (when I installed with non-English mods) and it's causing problems now?

Ok done as above , it's all downloaded and starts to install , but now another problem!

It automatically looks for BG1 in Program files , and therefore cannot install anything. It doesnt give me an option to change the directory , and in th original setup , it shows BG1 set to the correct path with a green light next to it.

How do I stop it looking for BG1 in Program Files?

I seem to be getting so close now , please someone help!

Look up the common problem in this and the Megamod forum. Here... there, everywhere.

Thanks for the reply. Tbh I read them and was none the wiser as to the method of fixing it.

In the end I decided to do a full uninstall and then reinstalled everything to Program Files , which was where the installation was automatically looking. I know this was a no-no , but after several uninstall/reinstalls and waiting for hours to get to the inevitable screen above, it seemed like the only solution; I'm running on XP so hopefully that shouldn't be to disastrous.

It's weird really , because the first successfull install (with Non-English mods included) actually asked me in the DOS-box to type in the location of Baldurs Gate; I've still no idea why it was automatically assuming it was in Program Files.

Anyway , hopefully now all will be ok. I'm considering installing the Widescreen mod next , but not sure if I want to tamper with my current set-up and risk having to go through all the same issues again! Is it a worthwhile install?

Well, if you want to have any other and are not satisfied with the three options you have as the screen resolutions then yes. (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768) As the game is likely to crash and give bad behavior with any other res...
