I have been playing the game for a while now, and experimented with several romance mods. The majority of the male ones I find very annoying (Kelsey included). I was wondering why nobody made a romance mod of a manly man, but one who isn't holier than thou like Ajantis. I also wanted one with a bit of personality, and one who could be taken from BG1 TUTU all the way to TOB. I tried turning Xan into a Fighter/Mage, but his gloom and doom attitude got to be too much. Then I thought, "what about Minsc?" Just about every other original character can be romanced, why not him. I would do it myself except for two reasons: It would be less fun to program it then play it; also, I am not that good at modding (never done it). So here it is, my request/challenge: make Minsc romanceable.

It's been considered several times, and I think a couple of people have tried to write a Minsc romance. No one's ever gotten very far, to my knowledge, and I don't blame anyone for not succeeding. Writing banters with Minsc is one thing. But romance? I for one don't think Minsc is even capable of a mature romance.

If you think you can write a Minsc romance, by all means take a crack at it and you shouldn't have much trouble finding someone to at least introduce you to modding and provide some pointers. But just asking the community to write a Minsc romance will get you nowhere - been considered, been tried, hasn't succeeded. You think you can do different, step on up to the plate.

In fact, i've (disturbingly enough) been thinking about the concept for some time now.
Whoever successfully writes this is a genious, but i seriously doubt that'll ever happen. (i'd play it though)

I don't mean sex. I mean not acting like a child or teenager approached with "love." I was just observing that I for one don't see Minsc as being an adult in this department.

Again, you think you can do it, you're welcome to it. I was simply warning that it's been tried in the past, and everything points to Minsc being perhaps the most difficult member of the Bioware cast to write a romance for.

Isn't it because of his "innocence"? The child-like behavior and running around being a hero and living to brag about heroic deeds?

At the mention of a Minsc romance, my first response is to laugh. Then I think about it a little and I become slightly disgusted. After that passes, I'm intrigued, but I realize "forcing" Minsc into a romantic relationship would be kind of breaking his character. But it really can't hurt to have one. Wasn't there some leftover work someone was willing to handover b/c they weren't willing/too busy to finish it?

I heartily agree with this. But my impression that a decent Shar-Teel romance was impossible was proven wrong, so who knows?

I am, for the record, opposed to the gay Minsc theory. Please don't go there if you take on this project.

Ok, so Minsc is not adult-y enough for romantic relationship, so what? Why don't let him be all Minsc-y in that, this way it would be even more fun & won't ruin his character. Of course, it might be harder to write, but if succeeded the result would be hilarious.

I would suggest expanding a less developed character, altering a character that would need to go through less significant changes to make him what you want him to be, or creating a new NPC if all you are interested in is a romance with a "manly man." But if you're set on it and think you can pull if off, go for it.

In Chloe mod, there's a conversation with Minsc when he says to Chloe she is beatiful and he likes her, and Chloe is gay... ja! Minsc romance would be great!
Perhaps Minsc romance must be an innocence romance, Minsc has love like a child, doing things of children.

Okay...so everyone agrees Minsc is child-like. Half say no to a romance the other half say yes. I agree it would be difficult, but I disagree that it would be impossible. It would be a different kind of romance definitely just because of his, shall we dare to call it a mental handicap? What is so wrong with that? Do you remember the movie Forrest Gump? He was just as child-like as Minsc and he loved his Jenny. They even got married. Minsc may be slow, but he understands friendships and loyalty and genuinely cares about the people close to him. His slowness does not render him incapable of love, nor does it mean he can't have a relationship. As I said he understands the basics and that's all you need. No one can lay claim to complete understanding of a relationship. I for one, don't to this day understand men at all. Probably never will.

A Minsc romance would be very innocent, for Minsc is the most innocent person in the saga. I wonder if it would build upon his sadness of losing Dynaheir. And thus, I believe that the romance would work best with a Magic User that is a female human.

Male to Male Minsc romance.............I don't see it happening in fifty years.............

But then again.... There is the Love Triangle that happens in Baldur's Gate 2

There was some talk on the Imoen Forum about how Minsc would react to several things.....and I think that Boo would make a great Marriage Counselor becuase of how smart Boo is!

But, there how Minsc views the Child of Bhaal. For Minsc thinks that the CharName is a great person who is everything Minsc wants to be. ( Expect when you turn those crazy Halfling Town Criers into Stone so you get extra EXP points!) So the Minsc romance will be the same as the Idea of a Viconia that romances the female Charname. As long as you do not murder the character, it is possible.

For Example: If Minsc solves world hunger to prove to Charname that he loves her, it would not fit into the image of Minsc that has been created since the day you first meet him in BG 1. But if Minsc tells Boo to solve world hunger so that the child fo Bhaal will marry Minsc, then it would fit. For Boo is smart!!

Auch!... I've forgot it... In Tourted Souls Mod, it could have a little problem with the romance because we have to choose between Minsc or Dynaheir.

The only plausible way I could see a good romance for Minsc would be with a female NPC with similar problems and a counterpart for Boo as well. You could get a comedy factor if the fem NPC had a cat, but only someone with a simple innocent view of the world could ever "get" him. Interesting idea, though I think writing the dialogue for such a romance could drive a person insane...

Initially I opposed the idea, but I guess I'm posting so it means I've come to some kind of settlement on it.

Just a note, the word "Romance" need not be very adult, btw. Some people have managed to do romances that don't even have any sort of sexual interaction in the mod whatsoever (ahem.. shameless plug). I could see a Minsc romance fitting that, a kind of innocent admiration for CHARNAME, and as is usual in the manner of hamster-guiding heroes, interposing between you and a variety of dangers.

Deeper banters and going on about nature of the Bhaalspawn curse, and trying to get under the sheets? not quite right. Lighter banters and talking about Rashemon (sp?), going on about the weather, trying to find Boo, coaxing hamsters to sleep, and training CHARNAME to sleep without a tent.. yeah that could work.

So well, yeah just my view lol.
