Saved game fixer problem

I'd been having a problem with random crashes during combat, due to what was reported as an assertion error in objanimation.cpp at line 7182; after some attempts at a solution I came across this mod, and installed it (which in a sense fixed that problem). (I've got an assortment of mods installed, BGT, TDD, SoS, planar sphere etc, so presumably there was some conflict between those - possibly something to do with dual-wielding, as that immediately looked different on installing IA)

But, I couldn't get the saved game fixer to install, as it turns out because it doesn't look for multiplayer saves (for possibly innacurate historical reasons I'm playing a single player game as multi player); however, it seemed to work anyway for a time, and I could carry on with my game.

Then, later on, I got a crash as soon as I left the graveyard to go back to the slums, the area would load and appear, then crash (with no error appearing in baldur.err); this turned out now to be happening with all my saved games right back to the start of Irenicus' dungeon, the area would appear then it would crash. Uninstalling IA fixes this, but I assume the previous random crashes will come back.

After some more fiddling, I was able to get the save game fixer to find the save games, by copying them from mpsave to save (which I had to create); but, it will work for a very early save (Irenicus' dungeon), but for later saves the installer throws up an error (blah/baldur.sav: read out of bounds); uninstalling IA, copying my latest mpsave to the save directory, playing it then resaving as a single player game gives the same error.

Is there some obvious solution, other than restarting my BG2 game? (which I'd rather not do, but I could just go back to my save from the end of BG1 and slog through again...)

Thanks,

Tom

I could add the mpsave folder to the scan. Otherwise, the solution is as you say - move your saved game to the save folder.

Know that the sort of fiddling you've done is unlikely to fix any problems though, but rather create new ones. It is not a good idea to uninstall or install mods to a game in progress, unless the mod's readme explicitly states it's ok. It does say in our readme you should start a new game after installing - the Saved Game Fixer is really just a sort of stop-gap approach.

I don't know what caused your original error - obviously not IA since you didn't have it installed. "Random" crashes seem to suggest some sort of video card error possibly. Quite possibly it is something CRE Fixer could have fixed. I'm not sure what IA would fix related to dual-wielding. You actually have to even more cautious if you use those components related to BG1 animations, as it says in the readme.

If you are getting any baldur.err messages, post them here. Also, post the installation error from the DEBUG log. Don't post the full log, just the text related to the error message. I may need your saved game to try to reproduce it as well (you'll need to register to attach it here).

One other thing you can try installing is the IA-Aurora LOW Fixer if you haven't. This is one of the few mods it's ok to install on an existing game - in fact it's designed to fix problems caused by installing mods after Aurora and or IA. Those should really be near the end of your install or you'll get frequent crashes, and this could well be your problem.
