BG1&2 with mega mod - LAGGING!
#1
Posted 22 January 2011 - 07:19 AM
I have a problem with Baldur's Gate 1&2 (with mega mod including BGT) game. It keeps lagging all the time, quite regularily - about twice a second. The lagging doesn't occur when the game is paused or in the menu (equipment, spells etc.) - only during gameplay. The mouse lags and everything lags - my characters can't walk normally, they just stop for a moment and walk, stop, walk... It's really annoying. I turned off all the ambient sounds and 3D acceleration in the game configuration and it didn't help. I noticed it's a bit better when I get rid of the bags of holding (found such solution on a forum) - but I can't get rid of them (too many things for quests etc.), I just sold most items.
My computer has Windows 7 x64, 6 GB RAM, ATI 5650 mobile graphic card, i7 mobile processor... Such an old game shouldn't lag... When I play the game, my laptop becomes quite loud. The CPU usage is about 13% then, but I guess one of the cores is a bit loaded. I've heard it's possible to run the game on one core and it could help, but I have no idea how to do it.
If it helps - I'm using widescreen mod (1600x900) and many more from the Big World Project's list of recommended mods. All works fine (I'm in the 4th chapter now) except from this annoying lagging. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, all in all it's a new and qute good machine and such an old game shouldn't be so demanding;)
Thanks for any tips!

What about the 7, 12, 15, 18, 20, 22... and finally 23.1 in this list. And make sure the sounds were off by opening the baldur.ini and look for the "Low Mem Sounds= 's, like the list point 2 says...
Thanks Jarno!! At first, when I opened my game, it was even worse, but it was probably because there were maaany enemies on that area. When I killed a part of them, I noticed that there's almost NO LAG! Well, in fact no lag in comparison to what it was like before. For the first time since I installed the game;) I don't know what was the reason, and I don't need to know - as long as the lagging doesn't occur! So thanks for help and for the link!

Although, as janusushi, i have a "powerful" computer (say very), and it lags as fuck and i dont get why.
Last but not least, the worldmap is a mess, but everything is working apart from that, even a couple of kits that i could not get to work properly last year.
and needless to say i dunnot quite get how to makes this work fine.
Please, help

Hi, i just installed A BWP baldur's gate, tactic version, only a couple of mods were missing.
Although, as janusushi, i have a "powerful" computer (say very), and it lags as fuck and i dont get why.
Last but not least, the worldmap is a mess, but everything is working apart from that, even a couple of kits that i could not get to work properly last year.
A new topic would have probably been better.

Are you pleased about the games configuration(other than the lagging), if so, install the Generalized Biffing...
A thing to note, these will make a few NPCs talk German:
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #2 // Corans Geschicklichkeit auf 19: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #3 // Diebesfähigkeiten der NPCs neu gewichten: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #6 // Minsks Gesinnung anpassen -> Minsks Gesinnung auf Chaotisch-Gut (BG2 - empfohlen!): 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #10 // Faldorn als 'Raecher': 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #11 // Safana als 'Saebelrassler': 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #12 // Kivan als 'Bogenschuetze': 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #14 // Cernd als 'Totem-Druide': 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #20 // Allgmeine Fixes: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #21 // Ruf nach Verlassen von Kerzenburg auf 9 setzen: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #22 // Soundpatch Part I - Gamesounds: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #23 // Soundpatch Part II - Personen: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #27 // Montaron Verbesserung: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #28 // Xans verbessertes Zauberbuch: 1.4.1
~JA#BGT_TWEAK/SETUP-JA#BGT_TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #29 // Kagain Verbesserung: 1.4.1
And the Generalized biffing can take and hour or even more to install, so don't panic even if the dos window doesn't give out put too soon.

A screen shot might help, or somewhat more of an explanation of what's actually off that would tell us something other than it's a mess, and you do know that when you install a mod, any mod, you need to start a new game and not use an old save...ps : what about my worldmap problem?? any idea on what went wrong???
And you are welcome, as always.

You're writing about generalized biffing - I had to uninstall it once to change widescreen mod setup (well, in fact it uninstalled automaticly and then didn't want to reinstall if I remember well), so how can I check whether it's installed at the moment or not? Maybe this is the reason of this stupid lagging. The map is fine in my case, everything at its place. Some people talk in German... and all the other people in the game talk in English even though I play a polish version (btw, sorry for my mistakes in English;). Playing BG is always a way to learn English, isn't it?

Open the "WeiDU.log" -file from the game directory with any text editor, like Notepad, read the few last lines, it should be there, with ~setup-generalized_biffing.tp2~ or something similar, if it's there, the files have been biffed, but if it's not, your game is guaranteed to lag because of that, and it will start far slower too !!!so how can I check whether it's installed at the moment or not?

OK, Generalized Biffing is installed. So it's not the reason. Any ideas what can be? My game starts and loads very quickly - about 5 and up to 10 seconds respectively. It's just lagging and now this frame or refreshing rate or something is bad...
You buy a new computer not to have such problems, and you do, all the more...

Does it help if you pause the game and then do the screen move/scroll ?It's just lagging and now this frame or refreshing rate or something is bad...
