When I launch the game using 'TobExLoader.exe', I get an empty dialog box when speaking to NPCs (the area where their text is displayed shows up empty).  Or if the the conversation with the NPC would normally have a set of answers from my player, then only the last answer shows up (see attached picture).  If I select that answer (by clicking), the screen goes blank and my desktop becomes visible with a black rectangle in the upper left.  The game is still running and I can hear sounds, but I have to use the Windows Task Manager to shut it down.

The game appears to run fine if I use the vanilla launcher 'baldur.exe'.

I've reinstalled twice already (that's been an adventure) and have gotten the same problem both times.  I'm using 'Recommended' install with no foreign language and a few NPC mods removed (like Gavin); also removed the thief kit conversions from RR.

Any ideas?

Btw can I just use baldur.exe to run the game? (I know I know... but I can hope right?)

Erhm, "fresh reinstall", what does that even mean?
You do know that the v13 of the ToB beta doesn't even need to use the 'TobExLoader.exe' ... if I am reading this right.

Deactivated account. The user today is known as The Imp.

nUserCustomDlgBarSize = GetIniValue("UI", "Custom Dialogue Bar Buffer Size");
nUserCustomDlgBarSize = max(nUserCustomDlgBarSize, 1);
Err, yeah. My fault. Equivalent to a crash if you "Custom Dialogue Bar Buffer Size=0". If you make it 256 instead of 0 (which is default) in TobEx.ini, should fix the issue. I'll fix this typo up.

Oh, and if you just install via Setup-TobEx.exe and not run Setup-TobExConfig.exe, all features of TobEx are disabled anyway, so it is not doing anything to your game (except make it buggy where I have made stupid coding errors like the one above).

That means I deleted everything and started over.  As opposed to just running the BWS tool, restoring backup, and moving on from there.

Thanks, that fix worked.

The only thing I used for install was Big World Setup (the exe -> vbs, and the .bat).  I did notice there were 2 weapon slots missing if I didn't run the game via the TobExLoader; I gave up at that point since I had no clue what else might be missing.

Yeah, beta 0013 f00bars BWP because I changed the install again. BWP developers don't change your install yet, please - TobEx install might change again in the next week or so.
