Everything seemed fine with my latest install of BWP until I tried sleeping in the Promenade. Instead of a Flaming Fist spawning to tell me off, some wild mage spawned and said he wanted my spleen or something. He didn't last very long against my summoned golem, but after that, I couldn't rest anywhere but in an Inn while in Athkatla town zones, or else I'd CTD, though resting while outside of town worked mostly fine, except when dream sequences and such occured. Now though, I can't seem to Rest anywhere besides the Docks inn, or I'll instantly CTD without an error message. Oh, and I already tried disabling movies...that didn't help.
First try kicking out NPC's to see if it a script or encounter/dialog related to them is causing this and try resting. Next drop all of your items and bags of holding to see if it is item related which could trigger an encounter. If that doesn't help give you a clue then proceed with the following information:
Tell us what Chapter you are in, what level(s) you are and what kit you are playing. It sounds like you had the Rhialto the marvelous encounter (wildmage) which happens while resting outside and things are going bonkers now. Maybe that spawn script is buggeing out?
If you are playing a Mage Hunter kit, the crash on rests happen but you would have had the problem very early on so I am tempted to look into the wildmage encounter. If the kit is indeed one that you are playing, you will have to use Shadowkeeper to delete the innate ability, Spell Deflection from your character.

EDIT 1: Alright, your idea about booting out party members appears to have worked . I tried every possible combination of CHARNAME, Minsc, Jaheira, Kiyone, and Kova, and the only two combos that DID NOT crash were CHARNAME and CHARNAME + Jaheira. Looks like a bug between Minsc and KK? Lemme check out your other ideas....
Chapter: 2
Class: Golem Trainer
Level: 12
EDIT 2: Dropping all items but keeping all party members = CTD

Just edit the above post as moderators can delete but it is not necessary. It could be Minsc alone causing it but it seems like it crashed when you kicked him out only? Have you been to the Docks and done his Kidnapping of Boo quest from Unfinished business? I don't remember that having problems but it may be a start.Woops.

EDIT: When I removed JUST Minsc and went to a house to rest, KK didn't crash me. Looks like the 2nd rest sequence they have is potentially bugged. Lemme go take them to a different map exterior and try resting with and without Minsc.
EDIT 2: Ok, with Minsc DEAD but still in party, I don't appear to be getting any more CTD's, even with KK. Dunno why that would be, but lemme try it again with my Quick-Save rather than a normal save.
Ok, my Quick-Save is CTDing even if I kill Minsc, then rest with Kova + Kiyone in my party while at the north river of Windspear Hills or whatever its called.
Fark, looks like my Quick-Save is corrupted, I guess. Removing / Killing Minsc from my normal save (made at the same day / hour as the Quick-Save, but whether before or after, I can't recall) causes resting to work appropriately each time / place I tried, but nothing except removing both KK + Minsc from party fixed my Quick-Save.
Any idea what gets changed by completing the Boo's Kidnapping quest?

Boo(the item). Minsc usually starts a dialog after you have been to the docks once so it may be that trigger or did you finish the quest?
EDIT: Oh, rest anywhere tweak is something I never use. I don't know why or maybe I do know why

Oh ok....I ain't spoken to Boo yet; I'll try that after I finish napping. Thanks for your time and patience; if it doesn't work, I'll come back later.
Actually Boo will be gone so that is where the quest starts. After you finish the quest, different versions of Boo are made depending on choices but i adjusted it to return my NeJ-Boo familiar. I wasn't sure how far you had gotten with that.

EDIT: Ok, I just noticed that despite Boo having returned, he's no longer in Minsc's quickslot bar when I select him, though inventory shows him in the first slot, and Minsc has a Bootlet ability now. I'll try tinkering with Shadowkeeper and Minsc to see if maybe Boo or that ability is busted somehow.

Oh. Ummm, Boo already went missing, then I terrorized the little thief boy at the Docks and got Boo back from Eleanya.
OK so that is the end of that quest and shouldn't be the issue unless the saves have become corrupt. I can try and look at your save if you upload it and I won't have all the same mods but it might narrow things down.

EDIT: Anyway, fark it. It's not like I'm gonna ever play a Wild Mage, anyway.....I'll restore to a clean install and reinstall BWP without the Wild Mage stuff.

Don't think that's gonna help. Now my GUI is flickering like crazy, even though it was fine until I made a few saves with Shadowkeeper. Why and how that would screw up the game like that, though, I dunno....

Wow that is quite drastic as who knows if the Wild Mage stuff is to blame. It's just an encounter so it is over and the sinister CtD may reappear.

Brb a sec, gonna reboot computer in hopes of fixing the flickering. If that doesn't work, I'll try to figure out WHY BGII started flickering.
Woohoo! The flickering stopped after a reboot. That'll save me 20 minutes of reinstalling BG / BGII / TOB. That tells me it was likely a RAM issue, probably created by tinkering with items and spells in Shadowkeeper, then loading modified saves.
Anyway, I doubt that Rhialto and Minsc are related in terms of a Rest bug, so I'll probably encounter a Minsc CTD after rescuing the hamster again. This is mainly to test my theory of Rhialto breaking spawn scripts. As for the Minsc issue, if it DOES happen again, I'll reinstall BWP without that portion of Unfinished Business.
Alrighty! Time to test mah theory....It worked! Town guards now spawn as they should, having removed the Wild Magic Additions. Hopefully with that gone, Minsc won't break resting later either.

For now you'll have to use Shadowkeeper as explained. That will escape the issue and you might have to do it a few times when leveling up whenever that spell delfection is in the innates. I am not sure at what level the CtD will stop relating to the spell. When I have time I will try to fix it for good but it is an old issue and I don't have the time or patience right now.

Specifically, it seems to be breaking down around the dream sequences...why that would be so, I'm not sure, but the 2nd Irenicus dream just crashed at the end, and the first one was crashing earlier as soon as I clicked Rest.

Ok, as I already mentioned, removing Wild Magic Additions fixed resting in the public zones of Athkatla, but I'm encountering bugs with resting again in non-Athkatla areas, even without Minsc and Kiyone in the party (though they were in it earlier for a short time during the beginning of Chapter 2, and I dropped them to fix it, but it's still being slightly screwy). Now, reading through my logs, I'm not seeing any obvious errors, so I have to assume that some of my mods combinations are breaking it somewhere along the line.
That is why I said it was too drastic to torch a whole game installation cause you nor we found the actual problem so it is just shooting in the dark. I would have left out Rest Anywhere tweak first as that just screams "code red resting bugs" to me.

Rest Anywhere, eh? Now you've got my undivided attention. I really should stop reading just the warnings and such on the mods, and actually pay attention to what their COMPONENTS are. Lemme go see which mod(s) have that component.
BG2 Tweaks and I have never used it (that tweak).
