I just finished the quest where I have to arrest the Triel villagers, and now I have to convince them to join the militia.  However, I can't seem to find the jail.  I can see a stairway in the room, but it doesn't have the clickable 'hotspot' necessary to use it.

In case the jail is indeed inaccessible due to a glitch, I would also like the area number of the room or a way to bypass that particular quest(I have no problem with using the CLUAConsole/ShadowKeeper to get myself through this).

Hi Kyzarin,

The area script says this, so the global is still 0 which is keeping the door inaccessible. The destination is AR4288.

IF
	GlobalGT("CbOpenJail","AR4286",0)
THEN
	RESPONSE #100
		TriggerActivation("Door0146",TRUE)
		Continue()
END

IF
	Global("CbOpenJail","AR4286",0)
THEN
	RESPONSE #100
		TriggerActivation("Door0146",FALSE)
		Continue()
END

The major's dialog does this:

First you'll have to go talk to the Triel men down in the gaol. I'll have a guard unlock the gaol now. Take them to our practice field to the west of town. There will be a guard there that normally trains all my new recruits. I'll have a soldier bring some equipment to arm and train them.
(StrRef:82463)

>>>>

Dismissed, Sergeant <CHARNAME>.
(StrRef:82464)

And the global sets to 1 from that so you may want to set that variable to 1 if you are going to do it manually, otherwise something else gets screwed up.

I changed the CbOpenJail variable to 1 via the CLUAConsole ['CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("CbOpenJail",GLOBAL,1)'] and teleported to the jail, but the Triel villagers just give me the infamous 'Triel Villager has nothing to say to you'. Also, if I talk to the Major, he just says 'Your Report Sergeant?', with the only reply option being 'Nothing to Report yet, Major, Sir'. Did I by any chance miss something?

I looked at the walkthrough I downloaded from Sorcerer's Place again and apparently I was supposed to go talk to the Mayor, but I was never given that quest. I tried talking to the mayor and he just says that the Major has better things for me to do and to talk to him (Major) if I don't remember my orders.

Also, I think one of the villagers was killed in the bar fight in the previous quest (the one where I handcuffed them all). Would that be giving me issues here?

In short, it's starting to feel like I've hit a point at which I can't make any progress.

Well, the major's dialog sets the globals for the door opening and also for the quest to continue (other globals). It is good you have the walkthrough and I always use it as a sort of checklist of events.

This mod is heavy on use of globals and things can go wrong really badly, really fast with just setting one and not the other 10 or whatever.

In my opinion, the best way to play through this mod is do a lot of saves at different points in case you have to restore. In your case I would reload the clean save without global tampering or going to the jail and follow the walkthrough chain of events.

Pretty soon the playing will be smooth and it is mostly in the militia quests that things are bloody frustrating. They do work but need a little TLC I guess.

Good luck!

I went back to an old save (I saved the game before stashing my equipment in the house next door to the barracks, and that made a convenient reload point) and retried the quest. This time it worked properly.

I had another issue later on that also forced me to reload. When I went to the training ground to train the Triel Villagers, I did one round of weapon training and then the lead guard told me he was turning in for the night and to meet him at a tavern in town. After searching the taverns (Narwhal and Night), I found no trace of any guards. I worked around this the second time by resting until it was a better time of day, as the problem happened at hour 20.

After that, things have gone fairly well. I just got promoted to captain and now I need to go to Trademeet and Athkatla to deliver the messages.

I've made it through most of the militia quests, and I'm currently stuck on the one where I actually go out and attack Sureblade's castle. The 'hotspot' to allow me to travel toward the castle seems to not exist! I looked earlier during the chain and didn't see it there then, either. I reloaded my save a couple times, and nothing has changed. (Although I'd have to say that seeing some of my romance dialogues multiple times while going through this is rather odd.) At this point, the best option seems to be a MoveToArea command, except that once again I don't know what area to go to. If that fails, I do have a few old saves to fall back on.

If it comes to reverting to a save before I joined the guards, I'll probably just give up on this part of the mod until a future playthrough as I've done the lower rank militia quests several times already. Also, my most recent save before ever entering Soubar is back in Spellhold (I'm currently in chapter 6).

FYI I do have numerous mods installed, notably Amber NPC(the previously mentioned romance) and Unfinished Business. I don't even know what all mods I have installed since I used Big World to install them and didn't look through them with a fine tooth comb.

You can opt to take the undergound passage through the jails but you have to tell the major that is the way you want to go, I think.

Do you mean that this travel wheel is non existent?

Do you mean that this travel wheel is non existent? It does not show up in the screen shot but that is what takes you to yeti mountains and then Lyrar's hold. No worldmap nonsense, just auto saves.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean.  The travel wheel doesn't appear near the top of the path (or, it seems, anywhere on the top edge of that map).  I tried the part of the map in your screenshot with no success.  The walkthrough I'm using (which was not written by anyone affiliated with the mod) said that it's impossible to go from the main jail to the lower jail by normal means so I didn't even bother to try.

Note: I'm playing SOS V1.13(unless the readme wasn't updated)

Well who knows with these crazy SOS thing. If you want you can CLUA to AR4350 which will get you out of Soubar and on your way to Lyrar's. I don't know what's going right or wrong anymore and I wonder if Sureblade is still unkillable

Ok, it turns out I just had to talk to the Major again, and then I was able to go to Sureblade's stronghold.  As of my last save, I'm in Sureblade's castle killing his minions and looting the place.

As far as Sureblade being unkillable, I haven't killed him yet, but according to the walkthrough, he has an undroppable item that prevents his HP from going below 1, so alternate means are required to kill him (the walkthrough recommended Power Word: Kill or the Silver Sword).  I suppose I'll find that out soon enough.

Thanks for the help!

update: Power Word: Kill does indeed work to kill Sureblade.  I have finished the militia quest chain.

Glad things worked out and this mod does grow on you once you get the system down with all the dialog conversations. There are some fixes I will applying in a not-so-distant release of SOS so let me know how the final Rolf confrontation works for you.

lol, I guess you replied before my edit.  Rolf can't be killed by bringing his HP to zero by normal means.  I killed him without too much trouble by casting Power Word: Kill (kills anything with under 60 remaining HP, no save) on him after wearing down his HP.  The walkthrough I was using did mention that spell.  However, I can see him being unkillable for a party that doesn't have a mage with that spell, so this maybe should be changed (or a scroll of Power Word: Kill added to the loot somewhere in the mod).

At this point, I've finished the militia chain, and I'm mayor of Soubar.  I don't think there's anything else left in Soubar, so I'm off to the Watcher's Keep.

One request I'd like to make for future versions is to remove the 'Mayor of Soubar' and 'Council Member of Soubar' titles from my characters once I kill Sureblade and restore the standard titles based on the character's class, or at least give the option of doing so.

I might script something when he is at 1HP otherwise it will drag on. He actually has two MINHP things, one a ring and one an effect. He disables the ring after the first fight but the effect still remains in the tower fight. Glad that walkthrough still helps people and it is a fun read.

For the titles, I really don't think I will change that because it is something unique to the mod after all the crap the characters go through. I think if you use the in game cheat CTRL+R on the character, their original titles (fighter, thief, etc) are restored. Beyond that there is always Shadowkeeper. I am mostly just a maintainer for bugs and incompatibilities :D

Speaking of the titles, I was looking through my characters just now and noticed that some of the titles reverted back to their default values.  I've successfully cleared the first two levels of the Watcher's Keep, and I think I've put my characters through pretty much anything that would dispel an effect, if it's an effect that changes the titles.  I suspect that it might be death and resurrection that resets the titles, but it might be something worth looking into.  A few of my characters still have the titles, notably my PC.  I'll update you if I figure out something more about this.

Yeah the title isn't permanent meaning that it can clear sometimes from dispel if the effect is flagged that way. Resurrection would also clear those non permanent effects. I still think ctrl+r cheat works though as a quick solution since the effects aren't permanent.

I was actually wondering if you were going to try to make the titles non-dispellable by normal means.  It might seem odd, but I'd prefer that either all or none of my characters have them (I'm a bit of a perfectionist), and now that I think about it, I don't mind them.

I'll look into that as some spells and items (which is how this is done) use effects with certain flags. The flags could be
instant/permanent until death
or
instant/permanent
which are two very different uses.

Thanks for your added input!
