VALASSE
It would be nice to have a 4th portrait, to insert between the 2nd and 3rd one.
STATS : STR 15 DEX 17 CON 14 INT 16 WIS 12 CHR 16
Rough average.
Her actual statline changes very very frequently and will affect her use of party
Her Stats may not altered by use of Strength Belts, nor any belts for that matter.
Clarification - Valasse is a stand alone NPC and nothing to do with this Forum. She was slated as "The Dying NPC" as a concept, ageing throughout the game and if unaided, she eventually dies.
CLASS : KENSAI / MAGE
she starts as a pure Mage, the Kensai is added later on using a script (similar to Hidden Kits)
level 5 - Kensai 1 / Mage 5
level 6 - Kensai 3 / Mage 6
level 7 - Kensai 5 / Mage 7
level 8 - Kensai 7 / Mage 8
for most of the game, her Kensai will be 1 level less than her Mage level, until it hits level 15.
ALIGNMENT : TRUE NEUTRAL
Goes to either Neutral Good or Neutral Evil.
Personality
Valasse is a perceptive, intelligent, questioning young girl. She starts out a child's / young teen's mentality, mainly concerned with herself and how the events around affect her. As she ages, she starts to assess what is good and evil, basing on the Party's alignment to draw conclusions.
Despite her apparent innocence, Val has no affinity nor interest in it. She has next to no notion of what it means to be shy, or taboo subjects. However, she toes the line in acceptable / proper behaviour, something she achieves by generally mimicking everyone else. Val has no apparent interest in physical closeness, but does it when she is in emotional turmoil, regardless of her age. Val is a distinctly non-Lawful personality in the game.
From the moment she joins the party, Valasse has very high knowledge, being able to identify just about any organism, weapon, or anything. She recognises vampires and shows no surprise, at the color of a person's brain being spilt out. She has no interest or concern in what is the base alignment of the creature, but she takes note of their intentions towards the party. Her lore is fixed throughout the game and does not change.
Valasse observes the PC, not just as a role model but also to a point as a subject of study. Psychologists may argue that she is at least mildly obsessed with him, but that is not surprising since he rescued a (supposedly) young and impressionable her. Despite this, until her romance she is quite secretive about her emotions, usually just using a few expressions. It takes a while for her to open up into the romance, and even then its more a case of discovering her emotions. Despite this, she is prone to outbursts of emotion at times. In the initial part, most of the triggers only relate to herself, much like kids / teens mainly only mope about their own matters.
Appearance
She appears about 16 years old at the point of joining the party, but her appearance gradually changes to look about 22 then 25 then 28 (no different portrait), until at the end she looks about 35.
Scope of Work
Bioware Content
- 1-3 Banters per Bioware, max 4. Mostly done (you want the file? It requires SERIOUS review after my re-definition of Valasse)
- Most "Interjections" that affect alignment will be 1 PC choice, max 2 sets of PC choices. Most interjections will still be no choices / response from PC. 2 Sets will be Choice 1 PC states his Opinion and Choice 2 PC justifies / explains his Opinion.
Valasse Events
- 4 "Level-Up" Banters, as follows :
Level 05 : at picking up Kensai Kit. You get to pick her Prof in conversation and comment on her changes
Level 08 : "where do you learn all this" discussion
Level 11 : Portrait Change discussion
Level 16 : Portrait Change discussion. Growing Weaker. HELP.
- 3 Story-based Banters / Discussions, as follows :
Chapter 2 : thoughts on Imoen and Eagerness to find Irenicus to save herself
Chapter 4 : thoughts on your quests for Bodhi / Aran but how its worth it to find Irenicus. A trigger sensitive dialogue will also be based on her level to indicate her urgency.
Chapter 6 : after getting out of Spellhold. So... now what next for herself? Will make him do it. Another trigger for urgency
PC & Romance
- 5 (minimum) Banters over "Discussion Topics", target is about 7. These are preludes to Lovetalks, BUT can occur even after Romance starts
- 7-10 independent, Banter-Lovetalks for SoA
Mini Sidequest
- to find her Parents, tentatively somewhere in Umar Hills but possibly also in Athkatla
- estimated 2 NPCs, no adventures, no fights, no challenges. Just some chit chatting
- 1 post-Quest "Who am I?" discussion
ROMANCE STAGES
Initial
During this period of time Valasse views the PC as a big brother, protector and mentor. She questions him however, and seeks understanding of why a course of action is taken. The logic and fairness of the answers will appeal to her and decide if the romance develops past a certain point. It will also affect her Alignment. In the initial part of her Romance, apart from viewing as a mentor, she also studies the PC much as a scientist would observe a test subject.
Your answers during this portion will shape her alignment and whether she likes you. Note that your alignment may be totally different from hers (ie. from how you shape hers), it will not affect her liking you, though liking you is a separate score. She will never refer your Base Alignment to your comments.
ie. if you are Chaotic Evil but give Good guidance, she will end up Good and thinking you are Good.
The questions will be asked regards the PC's actions along the way / after a Questline, regards specific actions during that questline.
eg. After you kill Madulf ~A curious choice of action. Any particular reason why?~
eg. After you kill Torgaal and open the Safe (with jewels) ~Nalia's father is quite dead. A waste of effort, don't you think?~
During her transformations, you will also get a chance to interact with her. Whether or not her romance begins is not dependent, but it will also affect her liking of you and (occasionally) her alignment.
There will also be some spontaneous, general questions. They are randomised BUT dependent on some Quests being completed or other Conditions.
eg. ~What's the benefit of helping someone who cannot reward you?~
--> linked to Helping the Orphan Girl and the Mourning Paladin, and also to Saving the Man in the Grave.
eg. ~Is your reputation indicative of who you really are, or just how you want others to perceive you?~
--> when you reach Reputation 17 or Reputation 6
If the PC is already in a Romance with someone else, Valasse will question about the other person (Biowares Aerie, Viconia, Jaheira only). The first one will be some general Question, the other line of questioning will develop into an argument between the two girls.
When Valasse's romance start, other romances will fade out.
Installation option will include a Gender-Neutral Valasse (she'll romance girls) and there won't be any romance conflicts with guy NPCs (ie Anomen).
There will also be a Happy Valasse installation option. She will still question your feelings for the other girl(s), but she won't initiate the second dialogue which results in a Me-Or-Her Tiff. Nor will romancing her set all the other RomanceActives to nil.
Valasse will not grouse ICly if you don't want to Romance her, or if you don't live up to her likeable standards. That said, if you fall beneath her expectations, she will leave you immediately. Lying to her / being inconsistent in your romance will also contribute to this.
That said, Valasse leaves at level 18 or at the Tree of Life if she's not in love with you.
Misc Notes
- Originally slated to have dialogues and interjections and events that shape her perception of what is good and evil, and contrast against your Reputation. However, this is too troublesome, and will be reduced to contrasting your actions against your Reputation, if there is conflict. She will still ask perceptive questions accordingly, which you can ignore
- If you are not in love with her, Valasse will leave quietly one night about the time she is level 18. She will state she cannot stand that you are indifferent to her and her plight, and she will leave to find her own solution since you are too busy with your own matters. Otherwise, she will leave at the Tree of Life
- the PC should have the freedom to play any way he likes, separate from what he tells Valasse.
TOB and End of Romance
After having her essence and ashes captured in an Urn, Valasse is instantly summonable, each summon lasting 12 hrs per day, and fully usable as a character except for Inventory and Spellbook.
The forms may not initiate conversation with anyone.
The PC may initiate conversation with each form at any time, if there is a Banter it will fire. Generally, none of the forms interject but there is a Banter timer running and some notable exceptions.
In all of her 3 forms, when killed she is immediately Ashed / Permanent-Killed.
If the PC is reduced to 30 HP or less, and the urn is still charged (ie unused), the PC will automatically transform into the Slayer (incurring Rep losses) and Valasse's form will summon itself.
Both her demon forms only have immunity to +1 weapons.
http://img696.images...262/erinyes.jpg
A) Erinyes : Flaming Longsword +3 only. mainly moderate Melee with a few offensive magical abilities, and some charming abilities. She also has a Flaming Whip ability that can slows the target as well as functions as powerful Aganazzar's Scorcher.
The Erinyes is a decent tank except for relatively low Hitpoints.
The Erinyes has up to 4-5 banters, but the 4th onwards (if any) are likely to be missed unless it was formed in SoA. She will also interject in Tree of Life and Hell against Irenicus. If spotted by Bodhi and/or Avatar of Rillifane, they will comment and she may respond.
She is lucid and manipulative, enough to want to manipulate you. It is generally ingratiating but mocking, and if you get past the surface it doesn't really care about you so long as you work with it. It pretends to remember about your past together but if you see through it, most of the memories have been lost.
She becomes invisible in city areas (though more likely will be unsummoned).
Upgrade : The Erinyes will initiate upgrade banter after Yaga-Shura is killed. This can be postponed once, and will be requested once again on arrival in Amkethran.
If you reject the Upgrade, the item will shatter and the creature will be lost.
http://bestgamewallp...balor-fight.jpg
B) Balor : Flaming Claws +4, 10 Fireballs and unlimited Flaming Arrows
The 10 Fireballs appear in inventory as Melf's Minute Meteors, and fires instantly as if it were from a level 15 wizard, at rate of 1 Fireball per round. The main difference from Fireball spell being instant-cast, no spellcasting refresh timing, and has to be targeted (same as MMM).
The Flaming Arrows appear as Firetooth Crossbow. They fire identically to Firetooth +4.
This Balor has a base Fire Resistance of 150% and will in fact heal within the radius of its Fireballs and also that of any other Fire Spells (this is for players to find out).
The Balor can use some protective Magical spells, and also has a permanent Fireshield. Its offensive spells are mainly Fire-based, and inclusive very Powerful level 9 Spells. While you can use its defensive magical spells (mainly for itself) and a few Power Words and Gazes, it will randomly cast most of its Fire-based AoE offensive and demon-summoning spells, disregarding your party's safety.
The Balor will Summon itself if there are more than 5 enemies present and there is a charge on the item left.
The Balor has 3-4 banters altogether. Unless you initiate dialogue, you are likely to miss the last 2. The last Banter will give you hints as to Valasse's true nature.
Personality wise, the Balor is malevolent and hostile towards almost everyone else, and it is really the toughest form to handle. It may occasionally interject in the party, feeding discord and enmity. While it appears to have genuine feelings for you, it thinks little of your authority, and constantly persuades you to follow the Path of Murder. Most of its conversations edges towards stoking your power.
The Balor aims to bring up all your dark emotions, and itself is a malevolent, temperamental being. Unlike the earlier form, it retains most if not all the memories of its earlier life as Valasse with you.
If you upgraded at Yaga-Shura, the Balor will summon itself when you enter the Oasis, EVEN IF the item is exhausted. General Jamis will not talk civilly to you and will attack you on sight thanks to the Demon.
If you did not free Demogorgon, the Balor will cajole you into returning back to Watcher's Keep and entering. Even if you had sealed the 5th level with Helm's seal, it can open a crack for you to enter.
The Balor will occasionally use past memories and request for the Urn, and if you give it to the Balor, it becomes immensely powerful and will turn hostile, attacking the party. At this point, you will never get Valasse back.
If you banter incorrectly with the Balor, it will also turn hostile, seeking its vessel. It is a proud, evil, ruthless creature.
The Balor will cause random terror in the city, from those seeing it. This is justified as the Balor will occasionally (30% check every 10 seconds) fireball anyone that is "INNOCENT" or "GOOD" so long the target is not in the party.
Gated Pit Fiends will not attack the Balor, if at any point in combat the party has two Pit Fiends on their side, the Balor will make a small remark over its head, something like ~Oh good, even more help.~ From there you have 9 seconds (1.5 rounds) to kill at least ONE of the Pitfiends, otherwise the Balor shoots 3 fireballs simultaneously, 1 at each pitfiend and 1 on itself, healing all 3 to max, then it demands the Urn from you or turns hostile.
Note that in any combat with the Balor, it will instantly charm you at the beginning. It has no other charm ability, though it has standard Demon gazes and Power Words. It also gains permanent Immunity to +3 weapons and below. Your party members will have to deal with it for a few rounds before the Entrancing Gaze wears off.
Upgrade : The Balor will initiate upgrade banter after Abazigal is killed.
If you reject the upgrade, the Balor will ask for the Urn. Hence unless you agree to the upgrade, the Balor will attack you.
