I haven't really had time to go back to the portrait to work on some of these suggestions, but I'm digesting what you guys are saying. Regarding the shadows on his face: Also bear in mind that the 38x60 portrait is going to lose a lot of definition. If you make the shadows too dark, then the portrait you look at most of the time won't have much of a face. I try to balance the largest portrait with the smallest portrait so that it's just as identifiable at a glance (if I can swing it--it's hard at times).
What's one more Xan alternate?

I agree, the size of the portrait makes it very difficult to show shading. Hence the need of backlight to show the edge of face etc. XD wish BG2 had bigger portraits sometimes.
luck with the pic, I hope I helped instead of being annoying c:

When asked about her past, SILVI asks why are you asking about her past. After some nagging she admits she always had a weak spot for Baldur's Gate, game from her youth. She mentions she had been seeking for a way to add a mod of her own to it. Now, she notes proudly, her little dream is being granted.

You haven't been annoying! Feedback is always helpful, whether it's to point out something you missed or whether it's to make you think about why/how you would do something a certain way. If I wasn't open to comments, I would have mentioned in my original post that it was a finished portrait that I didn't intend to edit any more.
I just like to think about what ppl say and decide whether I agree or not (mostly I agree in this case--except I like the ears ) I really just haven't had time to get back to the pic lately, that's all.
