I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I also apologize if it sounds hilariously amateurish and naive (or, perhaps, "you're welcome" if you get a good laugh).

I am running my first install of BiG World here, and since I don't really have too much time to continually replay the game, I chose to take on a Tactic installation first off (when it comes to actually playing the games, I enjoy a good challenge). I made sure to follow all the guides here and read through each mod's description to see whether or not to include it.

All done, I've finally started the major installation portion of the Big world install.bat. While applying the BiG World Fixpack, there's an additional empty dos window open for patch.exe that does nothing. No questions, no movement. If I close the window (tried it apprehensively the first time with hands quivering and sweat dripping from my brow), it prompts me in the main window if I want to Terminate batch job. I say no, of course. When I do this attempt-close + continue, then the main window shows some progress. First it was just sitting at "processing fixes for 1pp". Then after the first close+continue, it showed "processing fixes for 1pp_thieves_galore" with 3 files being copied. Then it sat not moving again at the next fix.

My guess is that it is indeed installing all of it just fine but will not notify of any progress so long as the empty "patch.exe" window is open. In this case, I should not bother it at all and let it continue. Am I right in my assumptions here?

Try to disconnect your PC from the net and disable your security software (virus/firewall).
Start the BiG World Install.bat again.

Chances are good that the software prevents the patch.exe from working and patching the mods setup-files.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Ah, that could be it. I did disable Microsoft Security Essentials real-time-protection, but maybe I should turn off the process entirely. I'll try that when I go home later today.

Hmm that does not seem to be working, still. I had turned off firewall, uac, internet, and virus scan program's realtime protection. There is still an empty cmd window for "patch.exe" that sits and does nothing. And running the big world install.bat as administrator also does not allow me to even start the process.

EDIT: I ran the big world install.bat from an administrator command prompt window instead from Explorer. It seems to be running smoothly now. Let's see how this goes.
