I recently installed BG2 to my new Win7 computer, I had to get a new one since my last computer crashed. I had a back up of my game from that computer, also modded. Once I installed it I copied the installation, then put that in a back up folder. Then I copied over my old back up into the new installation. The game starts up and I check everything and it seems fine. But when I save a pop up says that the save failed. It appears fine in the load window (updated thumbnail) however once I load it I can see the save is still the old one.
I did a test using just the saved clean install and that can save just fine. So there seems to be something wrong with my backed up modded install.

Okay figured it out, the save files were read-only.

Did you install in the Program Files directory?

I installed to the program (x86) directory, that version worked just fine. Then I copied my saved game folder over which was "read-only" and thus prevented the game from overwriting the save files.
