Xan can't use his own moonblade. He's got a different soundset, he's a sorcerer, and his own moonblade is red to him. I looked at it with Shadowkeeper, and extracted the item, and it said the file name was SW1H13.ITM.

There are apparently 7 moonblades in the item browser, so I put all of them in Xan's inventory. He could wield the ones that said only usable by elves, but they were insanely powerful and probably not a good idea to be wielded in baldur's gate. He couldn't wield one that said only usable by the elf that the sword chose, and could wield two of them which said they were usable by himself.

One of those gave him +4 to damage and to-hit and vocalize in addition to the +50% fire resistance that all of the swords had. And the other gave him +3 to hit and damage and no vocalize. I put that one in his inventory. When extracted, the name is O#XANMB.ITM. I guess that one should be the one present in mulahey's area. Unfortunately right now, only SW1H13.ITM is present in Mulahey's area.

Summary of moonblades:

CBEMMOON.ITM = +2 AC, +25% resistance to everything, +4 stars in long sword proficiency... way too powerful.
AAITM130.ITM = same thing here.
CMTUSW03.ITM = +25% bonus to fire and cold resist, +2AC, +4 to hit and damage, not usable by non-elves, still too powerful
O#XANIMB.ITM = +4 to hit and damage, +1 AC, +50% fire resist, invisibility, vocalize, only usable by xan. upgraded version of xan's BG1 blade?
O#XANMB.ITM = +3 to hit and damage, +1 AC, +50% fire resist, only usable by xan. Looks like the best choice.

SW1H13.ITM = not usable by Xan, but currently present in Mulahey's area.
W_MOONBL.ITM = not usable by Xan, only usable by "who the blade chose." Maybe present in Suldanesallar?

Have a look with shadowkeeper which kit/s he has (and try to change them to sorceror or mage etc.)

Do a weidu --change-log on sw1h13.itm and also Xan's .cre file (such as xan4.cre) to see which mods changed them. See the pinned megamod FAQ if you need more instructions.

During the course of installing mods according to BWP guidelines, I was amused to see some sort of "read out of bounds" error when P5Tweaks tried to process some custom items I created :D After quitting that mod install, deleting my custom items from the override folder, then reinstalling P5Tweaks, all is well. Of course, this also has me concerned, as now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my custom items. What to do?

[Edit] Also, after starting a game, I can select a couple of Zyraen's Miscellany scripts, but they don't function, and they have odd names in the script selection on the character record screen. Is there a way to fix this (hopefully without reinstalling everything)? [/Edit]

I suspect so, and probably because you used Near Infinity to create/edit them, so the offsets can have incorrect values. But you already knew that. How to fix? Rant on PPG to get devSin or someone to fix it .

No clue... try copying them from the mod to your scripts folder I guess.

The scripts should actually work... but they require that all the IF ~conditions~ become true, which often times they don't ... for unspecified reasons.

The strange issue with scripts is similar to a problem I've seen with kits, where sometimes I can assign a kit to a character in NI, but then, when I add the character to a game, a different kit appears in the character record. At least I know that these things start out 100% clean, because I restored all critical files for a clean installation prior to installing any mods.

Other times, when I would see an out of bounds error, it would be related to a mod trying to patch the game's .exe file. We know that won't work on a Mac, so I ignore that error, accepting the sad fact that I can't use any mods or components that attempt to patch in this way.

Thanks,
Eric

After using Xan for a while, I've noticed that he has a lot of spell failures. He's not wearing any armor. Also, he can't use scrolls, even to just cast them in battle. Is this a change to the sorcerer class, or a bug?

Getting ready to reinstall everything again according to the BWP 9.4 guide. This time, I'm skipping BP and TS-BP, so I'll add Ascension for OS X back into the mix. I had an issue with kits and scripts being messed up, which may have been due to my own carelessness, I'm not sure. In any case, I'll report if anything goes wrong during installation (should take about a week to complete, as I have ~150 mods or so to install, all manually), and I'll definitely report any issues that arise during playtesting.

Just discovered that it pays to clean up the scripts folder before installing any mods ;)

I welcome any insights, advice, etc. from any Mac users who have done (or are doing) what I'm doing here :)

Thanks,
Eric

Other times, when I would see an out of bounds error, it would be related to a mod trying to patch the game's .exe file.

It wouldn't happen when trying to patch the .exe on OS X, because the .exe doesn't exist. If you copied a Win .exe to your folder, it would still work (though be completely pointless). If you created a 0-byte or otherwise invalid .exe, then yes, it would give an out-of-bounds error. Same thing goes for any file where it tries to write to an offset greater than the filesize. In this case, it's reading it from the file, but the file contains invalid data (so I'm guessing, since it's only your files and they must've been edited with NI since you don't really have too many other options on OS X). It really should be fixed, which is why I suggested you report it in NI's forum.

Both mods from Ascension64 are already included in his Throne of Bhaal Extender, which offers a lot more options to boot.

Yes, I created a 0-byte dummy file with the .exe suffix, for those mods that simply check for the presence of such a file. I gather this also relates to the messages I've seen in similar errors that say "target bytes don't match."

As for the issue with my custom item (to be more specific, this happened with one custom item that I simply dropped into the override folder, rather than install with a .tp2, which I perhaps should have done), I'll post about it over at PPG.

Thanks,
Eric

Can't install BWP Installpack (russian)
After BG1 check I click "yes". Then program ask me to place necessary files in BGII - SoA. But there is now files on display in ms-dos promt. Only ask, but now file names shown.

In English version after bg1 check all ok. Version choose is displayed.

Huh?
You can't click using a batch-file... but you do mean the BiG World Install.bat, right?
And you also mean that this file does not behave the same if you select to display Russian translations, while English are working fine on the same installation-directory?

Well, both checks should be the same, at least from what I read during a quick check.
You should be around line 408 onward, which calls BiG World Installpack\BG1_check.bat.

The text that is displayed would be:

If any files are specified above, please copy them from the Baldur' s
Gate CD or DVD into the appropriate directories.
If above no files are listed, then Baldur's Gate is complete.

Is Baldur's Gate completely installed? Press Y and then Enter.

So if no files are shown, that's good and you can continue.

If that's not what you mean, pleas explain clearer.
You can remove the @echo off from the batch-file to look what happens during the execution and post the lines that you think are effected.
You can also add an echo Debug line XY-line to that place to check you are in line XY.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

That screen does not help. I can neither understand/read it nor search for since I miss the codepage/keys.
So you either remove the @echo off-line and give that output/add debug-lines or search for the text-snipplet in the translation-folder and tell us the name of the file that this was in.
