I have just uploaded BWP v9.4. What is new?

First of all: thanks Dabus now the installation part of the Install.bat is completely revised. It is now a very different tool and can easily handle foreign languages even in other codepages. As a result the Install.bat is also in Russian now!

Thrown Hammers is moved before Item Revisions again where it had been with BWP v9.2.

DEFJAM and BP-Balancer are moved a little more towards the end.

The empty_override component is moved into the BiG World Clean-Up.bat where it had been with BWP v8 before.

With the Install.bat I make a try to handle some SCSII and BP AI components. It's a test!

I could not include yet your suggestions for BWP from the last few weeks. I will include them with the next update.

ok, I got to the end of the install for this, and it said that I should run TobExLoader.exe and then run baldur.exe. I tried running TobExLoader.exe and it says that the application failed to start because the configuration is incorrect. and maybe i should reinstall. What does that do, anyway? Trying to run BGMain.exe or Baldur.exe just results in a hung window.

Hi,

tried recommended install with widescreen mod added. During batfile processing, during some patching (fixpack maybe) console sasy:
'processing fixes for "xpmod"'
and modal window pops out saying "there's no disk in drive. plase insert disk into drive d:"
Tried to insert both BG1 CD1 and BG2 DVD but no luck. Then I clicked continue and all went on. Is this an issue? Should I have some original installation media present in drive during BWP install?

Is this an issue?

Depends on how many times it asks it, ones really doesn't matter, but the origin for this could be that you have not a full install(big issue, as you need it) or that your baldur.ini's has too many [Alias] references, as you need only one for each CD and HD0. aka:
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\CD1\
CD2:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\CD2\
CD3:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\CD3\
CD4:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\CD4\
CD5:=C:\BWP\BGII - SoA\CD5\
At least if you use the English...

Should I have some original installation media present in drive during BWP install?

Definitely not. See above.

I am sure I do have a full install. You were right - I don't know why but found this in my baldur.ini:

HD0:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD2\;C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD4\
CD5:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD5\

So do you thing that I should reinstall everything or just let it go? I was asked just once about the disk.

Let it go, the second CD2 reference is there to enable the game to read the files in the minimal/normal install from the CD2, as it's the "play CD", and the installation program doesn't give a cheese to remove it in the full install, so one can do it by hand if so one wants. And one really should.

And I have also problem with TobEx. I have absolutely no clue about it's role and importance but is there any way how to play without it? Some workaround? Would there be any limitations or problems with gameplay?

You can play without it, just start the game from the regular BGMain.exe ...
Workaround to the problem is to download the latest working version(beta0007), not/uninstall the one the BWPv8.4 would/installs and install the beta0007.
It enables a few extra functions that are not critical, but enhance the game experience.

Ok, I've looked more into this error that I'm getting when I try to launch TobExLoader.exe. I searched for the error online and got some results saying I should check the system event viewer in windows xp. So i checked the system event viewer and saw 3 errors:

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.CRT. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Games\BGII - SoA\TobExLoader.exe. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

Sooooo, I looked up those error messages and got some results saying that its a dependency problem, that the dlls are looking for visual basic 2005 debug routines and that I don't have VB2005 on my computer, so I was getting errors.

I tried downloading the C++ 2005 redistributable package but it had no effect. So then I downloaded and reinstalled the ToB Extender and that seemed to let me start the game, with BGMain.exe.

The BWS loads v0007. Seems like 0008 is not available any more.
Also the batch installs component 100 201 1000 1200 1300 1400 1500 1600 1700 1800 1900, so reinstalling the game should have the same result as the BWP installation (1300 is now included).

If you start the game with BGMain.exe, the elements from the ToBEx-Mod are not "included/running" since the ToBEx-launcher injects the components during runtime.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Downloading and manually installing ToBEx version 9 which was released today fixed my application extension issue. I just have one more issue which I don't think is related to the BiG world setup at all, but my virtual machine. But if this sounds familiar to anybody, please let me know.

I had started BGII up and it worked correctly earlier today, but i resized the window of my virtual machine while running BG2 and it crashed. Now, when I try to run BG2 by BGMain.exe or TobExLoader.exe, it just goes to a black screen. The first part of the introductory video doesn't play, it just seems to freeze up there, unable to continue. I have to close the virtual machine. Anybody familiar with freezing-on-startup bugs with BG2 ?

I disabled the intro movies and now I can start the game. What could cause this problem, not being able to play the intro movies? I've never seen that before, and they used to be playable...

Well, it's hard to say, it could be that the files got bad, it could be that your virtual machine did something, or ...<invent 1000 other reasons>, it might help you if you would make a new thread on the Megamod Help forum and tell us exactly what you are playing the game on/with(original OS, virtual OS, machine specs)... or it might not (help), but it would tell us more...

One comment on tob_hacks + TobEx. The BWP 9.4 Guide suggests you use both, and also use the TobEx default INI. This is a big no-no, particularly with the components of tob_hacks that BWP recommends. I would suggest omitting tob_hacks altogether, since all the components recommended are implemented by TobEx.

I just found a repeatable, verifiable bug with TobExLoader.exe. When starting the game using this, things don't die. If you hit a monster, namely the first assassin in candlekeep, its tooltip status becomes "Dead" but it keeps on fighting. Also, I had the option "Pause when enemy sighted" turned on and the game immediately paused after I had killed the assassin, because a new version of the assassin was there apparently. so i unpaused and attacked the new assassin, whose tooltip status was "dead", and gibbed him. Even then, there was still an invisible monster that I kept attacking. This monster prevented me from picking up the items that the first assassin had dropped when he died, presumably because he was standing on them. Exiting the area and going back got rid of the invisible assassin monster. Later on, in the party training exercise on the southeast side of the keep, i was unable to kill any gibberlings, and therefore unable to exit the simulation. The same thing went on, with gibberlings fighting on after reaching "dead" status, and even after being gibbed.

When running BGmain.exe, this did not happen. I ran both TobExLoader.exe and BGmain.exe several times each, alternating between them, and this only occurred when using TobExLoader.exe.

A bit unrelated... would you also recomend not to use the BGTMusic ? As the ToB Ex has that fix too, but I don't know what happens to the BGT songs then.

Yes, that's a bug in the ToB Ex beta0009, use the laterst to fix that.

Should be OK because TobEx bypasses the hacked function completely. This applies to the tob_hacks songlist extension hack as well.

Yep, my bad... get beta 0010.
