Hello!

It would seem that the BigworldInstall worked fine, and it would seem that everything is set up, but I get the following error message when I attempt to use tobexloader:

First, windows 7 tells me "Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn - Throne of Bhall has stopped working"

Great...

I click close program, and I get the following error message:

injectDLL(): VirtualFreeEx() failed.
Access is denied.

I feel like this might be something simple? Access denied to what? Any help appreciated,

thanks!

Well, first things first, where's the game installed to ? (the whole/exact game directory)
And have you disabled the User Account Control, and what Windows 7 do you have ? The x64 or the x84 ? Cause if you have the x64, you also need to disable the Program Compatibility Assistant... Read the answer #2 in here on how, and more on the subject.

I have Windows 7, x86. I have disabled PCA and UAC, and disabled the antivirus for the installation, but I made the mistake of installing to the default folder (c:\program files (x86)\black isle\BgII - SOA and c:\program files (x86)\black isle\baldur's gate). Didn't see that until now :S

Would I need to reinstall to another folder to get this to work then?

I run the bgmain and it seems to have the mods installed (BGT startup gui, BGT worldmap, new spells), but would most of the mods not be installed then?

Thanks!

Erhm, try to copy the whole game folder ("BGII - SoA") to somewhere else, like to "c:\Games\BGII - SoA" and then go and edit the baldur.ini in that folder, at one point it has header that's [Alias] and the folder directories, then just edit it so it has this instead:
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD4\
CD5:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD5\
...Save the change and then all you got to do is start the game with the ToBLauncher.exe ...

No die, same error message. I copied the files to another partition... not enough hard drive space on main windows partition. Maybe this had some effect.

I suppose I'll try to continue without tobex? Does installing in default program files folder usually effect anything else?

Well, the partition change itself doesn't really effect the mechanism except the assigned letter in the [Alias]'es.

Yeah, start the game from the BGMain.exe ... but first check out which ToBEx did you use, as the temporary v8 was somewhat buggy. And by the way, your system is x64 one, yes the program files folder says the (x84), but that doesn't change the fact that the computer is a x64 one...

Does installing in default program files folder usually effect anything else?

Well, it depends a whole lot of the Operation System, the Vista x64 for example just dumped all the modified files into the C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\BGII - SoA" ... the files are also hidden so one couldn't find them with the search functions either. First thing is always first with TobEx, please post the textual contents of your WeiDU.log file.
This is likely a TobEx start-up error. The way to troubleshoot is to start disabling TobEx components (particularly the user interface stuff for this case) to see if things work again. Otherwise, avoid using TobEx for now.

I ran through each of the options of the TOBex.ini, and found the one that crashes the program as described above is the following attribute:

//--ENABLE SOUND FOR CHARMED/DOMINATED CREATURES--
//Allows dialogue with charmed/dominated creatures
//Charmed/dominated creatures also keep their soundsets
[A6CharmPatch]
Enabled=0

If this is set at 0 (which I set it at) TOBexloader runs. With it enabled, the program crashes and will not run.

With it disabled, ToBEx runs, but still prints the following errors to the TOBex.log file:

[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:31] getRaceText(): RACETEXT.2DA not found
[Sat 18 Sep 2010 17:39:32] Assertion warning. Return Addr: 0x796F6E File: InfScreenStart.cpp Line: 2014 Expression: FALSE Message: (null)

I made sure that the racetext.2da was in the "/bgII - SoA/ToBEx/Racestrref folder" (where it went upon installation), so I'm not sure why TobExLoader can't find it...

I've included my Weidu log with this post.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I tried install ToBEx 007 from ascensions signature, same problem as described above.

And how does one replace\find it?

Easy, you start the setup-tobex.exe and install it(the component). The component name should be "Required files for Externalise Race Selection StrRef"
