Baldur.log
(multiple start logging session)
---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

CVisibilityMap::AddCharacter : ( 3741, 2801 ) #:1114129 R:14

Baldur.err only has start logging session in it.

I saw that possibly disabling the below two entries might help, but I was wondering if these are the correct settings to have from a fresh install of BWP.
Externalise Mage Spell Hiding=1
Externalise Race Selection StrRef=1

I selected recommended with only a few selected additional mods and all of them were from the standard set(blue). I should note that this is a fresh installation of Baldur's Gate following the installation instructions exactly as stated in the BWP 9.3 help doc. I've done multiple installs after the first incident(using BWP's restore function of course) trying different package arrangements and I always get this same exact problem no matter what. Using BGMAIN.exe results in everything working perfectly without any problems, as far as I can tell.

One thing I noticed is that the Big World Install.bat defaults to the wrong preset directory during a certain part of the installation and then asks me to manually enter the correct path. The very last time through this, before I decided to make a post here, I changed the directory to the correct path hoping it would have an effect and still have the same problem. I noticed that it places one file, BGMAIN.exe into the preset directory but the directory I actually had BG installed to didn't have the same BGMAIN.exe as the preset one it incorrectly began copying that one file to before it obviously began copying to the correct directory upon me entering the correct path of my BG directory. I say the BGMAIN.exe wasn't the same because the date on the copied one in the preset directory was in the year 2000 and the one in my directory after installation was 1999.

Attached my TobEx.ini, renamed the extension to .txt so that it could be attached.

Well, I installed that component as well as every component which related to the .ini setting which was enabled. So everything except for the opcode fix #1100, and it still crashes with that same error message when selecting the Class and it does it always, independent of race and class.

In the Big World 9.3 document, I checked it and it stated that #1300 was not installed by default yet the TobEx.ini enables the check for it which is what causes the blank Race selection. Is there a better way to be going about installing all of these mods than what BWS is doing, such as using BWS as the main mechanism for installation while using another method or mechanism for refinement? I was of the understanding that using BWS would give me a working installation of the mods selected(as long as they are compatible and you followed instructions), this doesn't appear to be the case.

Is there something I should have done that I did not do, am I missing something?

EDIT: An important revision to my statements. While I believe TobEx is the cause of the crash, for BGMAIN.exe does not crash when it is not used, it is not TobEx in and of itself that crashes, but BGMAIN.exe which is crashing. It's giving me, "the instruction in this memory location referenced another location in memory and the referenced memory location could not be read" paraphrasing of course.

EDIT AGAIN: I just so happened to stumble across this post in reading the Tobex thread, It was just posted today.

With a fully clean install of BG2+TOB with the patch, I install tobex and it starts up fine. When I click on a class in the selection screen though, the game just crashes. No errors in the log.

Is this because of 64bit windows?

It's because that version 0008 beta isn't working properly because of bad programming. You should be able to back-download version 0007 from the same place (scroll down a bit further in the download page for TobEx).

Ascension suggested to get 0007 beta which can be found here for anyone else that might so happen to have this same problem and stumble upon this post. Thank's Jarno for your reply, I noticed you respond to a lot of us here that have problems and tend to be quite patient with us, it is very much appreciated.

I replied to the other thread but this crash on class selection is fixable by disabling the scrolling kit stuff in 0008.

The programme was looking for tne racetext.2da file. So I went and looked for it. Found two versions. One in the ToB_Hacks folder and the other in the ToBex folder. After reading another thread I simply copied the file from ToBex and put it in my override folder.

Now this isn't a solution. I got the race text up, human, elf, etc... but for me it still crashed on the next screen.

Maybe you will have more luck? :whistling:

I still haven't received an explanation as to why certain components aren't installed from TobEx. I recommend that all components be installed, regardless of what hacks are/are not used, then allow the INI to control what hacks will/will not be used.

1100 ~Required files for Opcode 0x13E~
1300 ~Required files for Externalise Race Selection StrRef~
1700 ~Required files for Scrollable Chargen Mage Spell Selection~
1800 ~Required files for Scrollable Level Up Mage Spell Selection~
1900 ~Required files for Externalise Mage Spell Hiding~
(2000 ~Recommended files for Allow 99 Priest Known Spells Per Level~)
