CTD - TOSC - durlag's tower

get a CTD as soon as I enter the ice cave to kill the bear just before I have to do the chess board challenge which has halted my progress through the tower, I have no clue how to proceed from this point. Could someone give me a few places to start? I don?t really care about doing this one little step of the quest so if there is some way to use a console to teleport down to lever 4 I would be all for it. I used the big world setup program and followed all recommended steps that the BWS suggested and so far everything has been going well with no unreasonable crashes. Here is my balder.err:

Open your ard007.bcs area script with a game editor that can decompile it (Near Infinity or DLTCEP) and paste the contents here.

Eh, well that's odd. For starters, you may need to but the NearInfinity.jar in your game folder, so it can read the values it needs to decompile the script properly. If that doesn't work, get WeiDU.exe and put it in your game folder (or copy and rename an existing mod's setup-modname.exe file). Then open a command prompt to your game folder (Start > Run > cmd then cd C:\Games\BG2 or wherever it is). Then type weidu ard007.bcs in the command window and paste the contents of the resulting ard007.baf from your game folder.

Ps. how do you actuly use the ingame console, never actuly used it befor.

See the IESDP again - it can answer a lot of basic questions.

Offhand, I'd say one of the creature items is hosed, because it's the same error as this one. Luckily, you've only got 2 creatures in this area by default - the script isn't creating any.

After enabling the console as described in that link, try this:
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("kaldran")
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("wolfwi")
Does creating either creature crash the game? I suspect the winter wolves are ok, since you've probably run into them outdoors.

The game crashes when i use CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("kaldran") when i spawn the wolfs in it's all good

when you said an item might be bad I went and checked the items "kaldran" has on him and for two of them it says no such index, is there a way to just remove the items from his inventoy? could it be that easy?

The standard reply to this would be, make a --change-log from the "kaldran.cre" -file. And you do it by reading the answer #6 here.

The shadowkeeper or DLTCEP can edit the .cre and do the change... but it could be that you just create more havic doing so.

It may be a result of the faster bears bug fixed in SCSII v15. The bear file SCSII places in the override is slightly screwed up. Maybe screwed up enough to crash the game.

Yep, definitely. This is a critical bug in that component of SCSII, for which apologies.

General advice, in fact: I normally don't say this, but if you are using v14 of SCSII, or v15 of SCS, then you really need to upgrade to the latest version. (And if there's some big world installer that's installing these versions, it urgently needs to be updated.)

If you can live with it that every creature with a bear animation won't drop its inventory when it is disintegrated, and that they give 100% instead of 75% XP when you kill them, do the following:

Navigate to your BG2 directory, go to scs II/backup/3530 and copy every file with a .cre extension into your override folder.

But before that make a backup of your override folder just to be safe.

That only applies to the bear component, if SCS II v14 and SCS v15 have other critical bugs it's best advised to heed the recommendation of DavidW.

As a result of a patch? You make it sound like it dumped its own CREs in the override (overwriting vanilla CREs) which I don't think is typical for SCS.

Hmm. Saw the general report for that on PPG, but didn't think it would affect BGT CREs, because they all use v2 EFFs. Unless SCS is overwriting BGT bears with Tutu bears and *then* ADD_CRE_EFFECTing those (I doubt it, but who knows... the code is likely written in something akin to Linear A).

Oh, I was referring to COPY_EXISTING. The result is placed in the override.
