Baldur's Gate quest:
Prism the emerald thief
Nashkel Mines

You can finish this quest without any violence, pickpocket the emeralds from him and bring them back, unfortunately the game still thinks that Prism had a sad end (perhaps he will have a sad end when Greywolf comes and he can't find the emeralds, but he was alive and well when I left!).

Prism's story was a sad tale indeed. A shame it could not have had a better ending. Ah well, I profit in the end. 150 gold bounty for emeralds he stole.

Nitpicking, I know, but somehow I got the feeling from the quest that non-violent solution would be the best. When Oublek gives the quest he says that Prism's fate doesn't matter, they just want the emeralds back.

Perhaps the game makers wanted Prism dead no matter what the player does, either he gets
A) killed by Greywolf
B) killed by the player
C) overdose death from speed potions if player saves him from Greywolf

Because it looks like Prism must die, it would be neat if when pickpocketing player is returning the emeralds to Oublek, Prism would come running and trying to get the emeralds back before they are returned, but coming little late - gasping something that he needs those emeralds to finish his master piece - and then dropping dead from overdose.

Yeah, Prism's fate is sealed. If you get the Sir Sarles quest from Dawnbringer Sain, he refers to the death of Prism.

Thanks, kinda guessed that, poor foolish Prism.
Maybe the easiest fix would be to make the emeralds impossible to be pickpocketed.

or for me to stop trying to be clever at saving lives.

If I'm playing a good character, I usually fight Greywolf (the bully) and protect Prism. And then he drops dead of haste potion overdose.
