Hey all. Just finished running through the installation, and everthing seemed to go ok (didn't see any error messages in the debug log). But when I go to start up TobExLoader.exe, I get an immediate error messages that says:

"The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling may fix the problem."

I'm pretty sure this is just a generic Windows exception for "your program is fucked." The good news is that when I start up BGMain.exe, it loads just fine, and I seem to be able to play the combined game.

So my question: does TobExLoader.exe do something that is necessary? Is the fact that it's not working going to mess up my game later?

Thanks,

Unquist

The TobExLoader doesn't cause more problems if it's not used, as it's sort of a command extended, so it can add features that you wouldn't be able to use otherwise, but if the BGMain.exe starts fine and you can live without the extended features, there shouldn't be anything game breaking.

Well that's good to know. As long as the extra quests/areas/content is working I guess, I'll be happy.

Thanks for the help.

I'm getting the same error as -Unquist- after installing. It's happened twice now. After the first time, I did a restore to a clean install and re-installed BWP overnight again, with a slightly different selection of mods. Partly to better understand the modding process, to make better choices and to deal with the g3 site being down, I spent quite a bit of time reading the BWP User Guide, looking at the script code, debug files and batch files and looking at (and tweaking) the .ini files. Both times I also uninstalled/reinstalled TobEx and I just tried uninstalling TOB_hacks, then reinstalling TobEx. All had the same result. The game itself runs fine, but I'd really like to get TobExLoader.exe to work so I can have access to a larger amount of kits for my characters. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

You may need to install the VC++ 2005 Redistributables

Thanks, Ascension. Sigh. I tried that, but it didn't change anything. Upon looking closer (this isn't my main pc, which is down with a dead power supply), I found that Visual Studio 2005 (and 2010) is installed on this machine, so it makes sense that it didn't work. Well, I was gonna dig through everything taking a closer look anyway, so I can understand the nuts and bolts better...

I am having the same problem and am wondering what functionality I am missing due to this and what Else I might try to fix it. I have tried installing the VC++ Run time and re installing but am hesitant to do anything else for fear of breaking the parts that are working.

Just play without TobEx, you aren't missing on any crucial features.

As for the problem, I am not certain at the moment. What OS are you using?

Same problem. Using Windows XP prof. 32-bit

if it helps - I'm from Poland - installed polish version of the games but patched them with english patches (BiG world install.bat didn't see polish patches). Tried reinstaling ToBEx, full reinstall, uninstalling tob hacks. Nothing helps...

I am pretty sure that we are missing some runtime files from Visual Studio 2005. Not sure what at the moment - I'm digging into the manifest.

Edit: I ran the beta 0008 TobEx through Dependency Walker. The critical dependencies are detoured.dll (installed with TobEx), kernel32.dll, user32.dll, comctl32.dll, gdi32.dll, and winspool.drv. I have no idea why there is a dependency on winspool.drv, TobEx doesn't use your printer (!), but perhaps that is missing from Windows/System32. Could you check that?

Probably not - I have that file. Is it possible it's because my win folder is on a difrent partition?

I also installed the VC++ 2005 Redistributables for x86 you posted links to earlier - no change.

hmmm... I don't have the detoured.dll file. Should it also be in windows/system32 folder?

It should be installed with TobEx into the BG2:ToB directory. It is found in TobEx\core\. If you have UAC installed, it might get copied somewhere else, or nowhere at all. If it isn't extracted, try and find it in the archive.

For the loader itself, the EXE depends on kernel32.dll, user32.dll, version.dll, and msvcr80.dll. I suspect that the last dependency may be causing some troubles if you don't have the redistributables installed.

Anyway, for future versions, I'll remove the msvcr##.dll dependency so that the redistributables aren't needed.

I'll revive this thread, but with a bit different problem. When I try to run TobEx, it just hangs, saying

-----TobEx: Throne of Bhaal Extender (Thu 30 Sep 2010 15:50:59)

Nothing else happens, nothing is reported and the console window cannot be closed or anything (even process explorer can't do that). I've downloaded recent beta, but it changed nothing.

The game normally starts from the regular exe. I've installed vcredist, but it changed nothing.

Perhaps you have jumped straight to step 3 in the Troubleshooting section of the TobEx readme.

Some things to try if you think TobEX is spouting errors or crashing on you.
1. Open TobEx.ini and disable hacks by setting them to 0. The hacks under [UI] are probably the most likely to crash, so try disabling these first.
2. If the console/log questions whether you have installed the required WeiDU components, make sure you have installed all the necessary components of TobEx. To do this, run Setup-TobEx.exe and install all components. If you recently upgraded using the 'Soft Upgrade' option, uninstall and re-install TobEx completely.
3. Get some help on the Spellhold Studios forums.

If you enable 'Logging On=1' in under [Program Options] in baldur.ini, you might also see errors reported in TobEx.log, baldur.log, or baldur.err.

I've choose to reinstall BIG World since I was not happy with the stable version and choose beta (so I could pick mod components) and TOBEx works. Now it only says it lacks these files:

[Sat 02 Oct 2010 19:49:17] CRuleTablesEx::Init(): CLSRCREQ.2DA not found. Did you install the required WeiDU component?
[Sat 02 Oct 2010 19:49:17] CRuleTablesEx::Init(): MGSRCREQ.2DA not found. Did you install the required WeiDU component?
[Sat 02 Oct 2010 19:49:17] CRuleTablesEx::Init(): ANIWKSND.2DA not found. Did you install the required WeiDU component?
[Sat 02 Oct 2010 19:49:17] CRuleTablesEx::Init(): ANITNSND.2DA not found. Did you install the required WeiDU component?

Did you install the required WeiDU component?

I thought this was suggestive enough. Make sure TobEx is installed fully. BWP does not always install all the WeiDU components.
