Action RPG? Not quite seeing where the latter comes into play with what's been released so far. You can upgrade with genetic mutants, run around being badass looking super-mutants with some metaphysical bonuses if you select the appropriate lot, and basically indulge the hunger for hack & slash mindlessness.

Aside from the supposedly unrelated reference to Darkspawn of the EA controlled franchises, seems awfully gameplay bulky too from the demo previews scattered around the Internet. Plot can't exactly be said to be terribly original either, but hey, no one gets points for that any more anyway.

Maxis suggests that loot and collection will be the heart of Darkspore--not only unlocking and collecting new heroes, but picking up tons and tons of items, which include temporary power-ups that immediately heal your heroes and replenish the energy they spend on executing their special abilities

Yeah, um... call me in 15 years when you're done digging that little hole there, Maxis.

I really hope they also realise that "replaying levels" isn't exactly everyone's idea of fun. Not even for achievements is it worth grinding - there's a reason why so many games get blasted for indulging such practice.
'Tis their experiment to venture into the field, with luck, they'll be able to pull it off. Though it leaves a bitter-sweet taste at the moment, with current information.
