Call me a hopeless optimist, Solar's Harper, but I think this is actually a pretty good compromise. I'm just fine with a one-time online check, and appreciate not having to put the disk in every time (digital distribution has completely spoiled me). Plus, you really can't argue that the restrictions are that bad: 5 PCs in 24 hours? Unlimited installs? That's pretty flexible, I think.

Or maybe I'm just really happy they didn't go down the same road Ubisoft did with Assassin's Creed 2 (which was a gigantic pain in the tuckus, remember losing my game once when my ISP acted up..... <_< )

Oh I'm not really arguing anything per se. Just seems like a waste of time really. Although yeah, they would really have to try hard to beat Ubisoft's track record, one person I know in particular never forgives me for that. Then again he did also think that Final Fantasy 10 was the best thing since sliced bread. Revenge! :D

the bigg: I don't play femShep because when Shepard speaks to Doctor Bastila'sMother I keep expecting HK47 to appear, and Carth is right there. Sad but true.

Myahahaha! Ferelden is doomed! Barren! No heir!

Really, the developers will do what they want to do(see Anders's fate in DA2), but the solution for Ferelden is very simple. Since Alistair can still have children, have him sleep with willing girls, thus having a bastard ready when the time comes. A few years down the road Alistair acknowledges the bastard(s), possibly making the mother(s) meet with an "accident" at some point, so there's no embarrassmet to the royal family. Works with Alistair at the throne, works with Alistair and Anora at the throne, works with Alistair and the Warden at the throne, and even works with just Anora(Anora and the Warden) at the throne, if one looks carefully: there must be some Maric's bastards out there, even if Cailan is infertile.

Gah, spoilery goodness has made me upgrade the shipping on my pre-order. Next-day it is. <_<

There's really nothing interesting there. Only the fates of your siblings, one or two video descriptions and the name of one enemy. Then Gaider came and said spoilers were bad, but he didn't care. Oh, yes, and there's the name of a companion who may have a cameo.

Maybe, but I've got zero willpower when it comes to spoilers, so I'm going to read the thread. And once I start thinking about playing the game, I want to play it. I don't want to wait until somewhere between the 15th and the 19th, when Amazon sends out its super-saver shipping orders. Besides, I had a coupon.

I have this "before eleventh of January" preorder from Ozon.ru - hopefully we'll be able to pick it up from their office when the game is released in Europe. Here people mostly download stuff via torrents, though. I doubt they'll be able to do it this time, however as DA2 has those internet checks.

You made me laugh. :D The game will be cracked next day after US release (two days tops), so by the time it's released in europe drm check will be just a memory. I don't know why they even bother with those checks, to annoy legal owners of the game? Fortunately those in the DA2 are only little annoying.

I don't know about that: I have this Assassin's Creed II game, which requires permanent internet connection - it's awful and boring and the graphics are only slightly better than DA2(well, almost anything newgen is better than DA2, to be honest), but it took nearly a year to develop a fully workable crack, as far as I know.

It took two months for AC2, and that's because some of the game scripts don't live on your hard drive, but on Ubisoft's server - that meant that crackers had to re-re-re-replay the game, until they had enough info to write a program able to emulate Ubisoft's server (and replicate the scripts).

Wow, that's a fun way to crack the game. :) Much like modding, I guess - you replay and replay and retest, until you don't want to play anymore.

In other news, the demo got that 1000000, so two items WILL be unlocked. Now they're asking to replicate some DA2-related facebook posts. Look for more details here: http://www.facebook.com/dragonage

I don't know if I agree with the article on Grey Wardens, and most of that stems from what I read in Dragon Age: The Calling. spoilers ahead
Spoiler

So the chances of a Grey Warden conceiving can't be that slim, since for "normal" people, at least in the real world, chances are about 25%. Say they're diminished, at 10%, then statistics would have us estimate a couple of Grey Wardens' chances at 1%, not zero. Odds are that after a few years, Alistair and his fellow Warden might conceive. There's a big distinction between infertile and sterile which the layman tends to forget. Difficult does not mean impossible. But of course, that's just my job talking, and this is Thedas, not Earth, so as Kulyok said, the developers and writers will do as they please in the end.

Regarding the spoilers: shame on you for tempting me, Vilkacis!!! :P I took a single peek at it, read a few lines and ran away in terror. I refuse to be spoiled! The little I did see was bad enough. Wonder who that cameo Kulyok mentioned will be though... (Don't tell me, don't tell me, don't tell me!) ^_^

And that NPC looks *disgusting* in the cameo. Just saying, heheh. (And there are more NPC cameos, but not telling).

Noted. You could use more descriptive titles in the future though, as I don't have the energy time to cross-reference every news item I post. :)

(Never used Facebook, and not going to).

+1 - and I don't care if I miss out on the "bonus" item. I bet it gets unlocked for everyone anyway, so it'll probably just appear in my registered game promotions on its own.
