I often get CTDs in my game; they are not linked to a particular place, creature, or action, because they happen a bit everywhere, mostly during fights, but sometimes also in other situations.

I have always managed to load a previous save and to repeat the fight, without any problem.
I enabled the creation of the baldur.err file, and here's the last crash. What does it mean?

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

ASSERTION FAILED!
File: ChVidImage24.cpp
Line: 5069

Exp: rClip.top >= 0 && rClip.top <= rClip.bottom && rClip.left >= 0 && rClip.left <= rClip.right

Msg: no msg.
Run Debugger?

I tried to change-log that file, but the result was blank: no mod had modified it.

The first CTD occurred some time after I biffed the game, just after installing IA, but some other mods could have been installed just before, and I don't know which one creates the problem.

I will try again and see if it's always the same file which causes CTDs, but if anyone has any idea, I would appreciate it.

edit: it's just crashed again; the error was exactly the same

Here's my weidu log:

Another thing I've noticed, both from playing and from the error log (which talks about top, bottom,...), is that the CTD has to do with the direction in which the group is looking: every time I get a CTD, if I attack again from the same place (which is usually south-east, when the CTDs happen), it occurs again; if I walk around the enemy, and attack it from another direction, I can fight it without problems

What monsters are you fighting against, generally when this happens ?? Is there a monster that this happens always, and if so which... as it might be that the animation sequence might be missing a few directional animations...

No. This is almost certainly a search map issue, or at least *a* map issue (the top, bottom, left, right usually refers to its borders, which may not match up with the area map). So you need to figure out the area you're in (ar#### or whatever). DLTCEP can actually adjust minor search map differences like this automatically in some cases.

It has happened in many different occasions, so it can't be a particular monster or area. It has happened in High Hedge; north of the Lighthouse; Carnival; east of the Carnival;...

It has happened fighting kobolds, skeletons; gnolls, shoal, and also once when I had just slain a (hope its English name sounds like this) worm-hyena and the corpse had just appeared,... , and when I attacked them again, it didn't happen, so it's more likely that it's someone in my party than some enemy. I've tried to conjure skeletons and attack them from different directions, with different party members, but no CTD occurred. I'll try with the ranged weapons, as I have not tried that yet.

edit: after the last crashes, I might have discovered something more.

I suspect the CTD occurs when branwen, who was facing north-west, turns west and attacks.

I had to fight two sirines (who mysteriously did not turn hostile together with Sil); the game crashed twice.
This was always when one died; branwen had to move and turn around to face the other.

I moved Branwen where Keiria was before, and vice versa; everything went right. so, I suspect it's Branwen's fault. But I can't reproduce the CTD

Hmm, well if you can't reproduce it, that's tricky. Do you get that same error message in baldur.err every time it happens? Could be a BAM I guess, but that could be anything (spell, item, creature, even area animations). Does Branwen have a BG1 animation or some odd mod-added weapon? Does messing with your video settings (like reducing to 800x600 or disabling 3D) do anything?

The message is always, exactly the same.

I have installed 1pp, so there is something from bgI; I didn't install the bgI animations from IA, though; anyway, she's not using any modded item, and nobody is double-wielding, either. Nobody was casting a spell; there were some mod-added creatures (Keiria, Skeezer) and items (Keiria's sword, armour,...). I could attach a saved game, as I think it's the easiest way to list all items and creatures which were present.

edit: branwen is using a displacing cloak or something like that

the Weidu.log is in the first post.

This save was not just before a crash, but a crash could happen at any time.

I'll try uninstalling the widescreen mod and changing the resolution.

edit: I've uninstalled the widescreen mod and it seems to work, I have to play for some time now to be sure it still crashes

If you look at this thread and this even older one, crashes in that module (though not that exact line number) seem to be caused by either corrupted saved games (in which case empty your temp, tempsave and cache folder or start a new game if that doesn't work), antivirus running during gameplay (disable it or at least exclude the game folder from monitoring) or video card settings (change the resolution).

My error is exactly the same as the one in the first link

I have finally managed to trigger it; unfortunately, i can't get a screenshot.

When Keiria is attacking on my left, in one of the attack frames she lifts the sword. That's when the game crashes. It only happens if she's attacking an opponent who is North-West; the opponent moves left, she chases him (and turns west), attacks him=>CTD.

It does not depend on the weapon. Monty has no problems with a long sword; Keiria also has problems with a club.

I've tried to delete my cache,temp,... folders, still crashes.
I've started a new game, cluac_ed to carnival, got keiria => still crashes

I'll look at the antivirus; my video card is ati, so I don't think that's the problem with both of us.

What's the thief_female_elf animation (25361) 's file name? could that be the problem?

I edited Keiria with NI and turned her into a human (and changed her animation too); the problem appeared to be solved.

I'm sorry for all this editing, but I've done some experiments.

I've managed to recreate the CTD using the tobthief character, and a longsword. can it be a problem with the elf_female_thief animation? where can i find it and what should I change_log?

Apparently, disabling all 3d effects prevents the game from crashing; the animation has a moment when it almost disappears, and that could be the problem.

Change log ceft2a1.bam. I suppose it could be missing a frame or something like that, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look, as there are several BAMs in that range (a1 to a9, ca, g1, g11-g19). The direction provides somewhat of a clue though, if it only happens in the NW-W directions.
