On items, I think it would be appropriate to edit the "Equipped appearance" as a string which does not currently appear to be an option.  Also, YW should probably be "Wings, Male" and ZW should be "Wings, Female".  Both originate from 1pp: Attachable Wings.

It is possible, but only indirectly. Right-click on the field and select "Edit as hex". Right-click again and select (the now available) "Edit as string". I'll see if I can expand the datatype for "Equipped appearance" to allow setting custom strings.

I don't know what YW stands for. In BGEE it doesn't seem to work. The only item with YW appearance is WING01B.ITM, which isn't used by the game. ZW doesn't look gender-specific. It can also be used by both male and female characters.

Read the dev_readme.txt in the 1pp: Attachable Wings archive.  It explains the difference between the two and the reason for it.  Regardless of who and where else uses any of these resources, this mod by Erephine is the origin of the YW and ZW equipped appearances.  As the EEs include much of 1pp, it does not surprise me that bits of this got slipped in with the rest.

I see. Currently the extended list of appearance types is only available for EE games, so YZ didn't matter anyway. I'll try to expand it to classic BG2/BGT installations with the 1PP Wings component installed.

Adding equipped appearances to the game is rare, but not unheard of.  I think two more mods that do this include Sharing my custom graphics (pointy hat/face bag/duck helm) and The Old Gold - v0.1 WIP (for BGT/BWP/BWS).  I don't know if you're using a static list or trying to detect the entries dynamically, but I figured while I was at it I'd mention that at least some others exist (via mods).

I'm just using a couple of static lists, depending on the detected game. There are currently separate lists for PST(EE), classic IE games and the EE games.

Is there a quick way to determine all equipped appearance types available in the game? I don't want to analyze the names of all thousands of BAM files for this.

I'm not seeing any way other than scanning BAM file names.

I've tried to implement a dynamic list of equipped appearance codes. It works well enough in vanilla or lightly modded games. A megamod installation produces lots of false positives though. I'll probably stick with the static list for now. (As a side effect I have found two still unlisted codes though.)

This is a minor display quibble:

318_spl.jpg

Ops 318 and 324 can block abilities from items, too--here it's being used to block the Wand of Cloudkill, wand13.itm--so the .spl isn't necessarily a safe assumption for NI to be adding here. Op 206 remains spell-only.

I was able to further optimize the search parameters, so that they work even in bigger mod installations. It'll replace the static (and inaccurate) list of codes in the next NI release.

Thanks. I'll add ITM to the list of available resref extensions.

Could this also be done for opcodes 258, 260, and 321.  They also affect both item and spell resources.

Update: NearInfinity v2.1-20171222

Changes:

  • Cut/copy and paste operations automatically convert EFF V1.0 structures into EFF V2.0 and vice versa if needed.
  • Area Viewer: Added setting to disable individual region shades.
  • Area Viewer: Added option to specify a custom map zoom factor. Select "Custom" from the combobox list.
  • Area Viewer: Containers, doors and regions provide additional info in quick info box and tooltips (e.g. lock/trap state or associated scripts).
  • List of codes for ITM > Equipped appearance is determined dynamically based on available game resources. It replaces the (inaccurate) static list from previous versions.
  • Extended "Edit as string" option from popup menu for ITM > Equipped appearance field.
  • Added ITM to allowed resource types for opcodes 258, 260, 318, 321 and 324.
  • Updated several field names in EFF V2.0 structures.
  • Some internal optimizations.

Btw, has anyone had a chance to test the option "Change Global Font Size" on high DPI monitors yet, that were added by the previous NI release?

Thank you, Argent77, this is our christmas gift.

I use the area viewer quite regularly to identify resources I reference in my mods, I really like it and now even more with the improvements.

I modded BGEE V2.3.67.3 with five mods. While playing I noticed some glitches with wrong strings. Can I use Near Infinity to change the game pointing to the right string locations instead of the wrong ones? The needed strings are in the modified dialog.tlk.

Yes, that should work. What exactly do you want to update? Depending on the resource it might be needed to update files directly in the saved game.

I modded BGEE V2.3.67.3,,,

If the game includes the SoD, make suireyou install the modmerger before you touch it with NI. Cause NI refers to the wrong dialog.tlk...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Thank You both for the replies. Modmerger is installed. Some NPC names and their bios gotten strings from Sieg of Dragonspear and mod-maps too. When I load a saved game in an old install on BGEE V 1.3.2053 the map names are correct and the names and bios are fine too but there "the best hits" are invalid strings while these strings are fine within the V2.3. I tested stuff for an EET install I plan, corrected things, so I have to reinstall. If I hit the same issues, I try Near Infinity. Have not used it for years.

Merci both.
