His newest invention is a turnips launching crossbow. Just imagine the fear on the face of his foes.
The miniature I used for him is an Empire Engineer from Games Workshop and can be seen here. This time there was a lot more work in turning the model as Jan, including things like changing his weapon, sculpting him a beard and making the the turnips, but it was great fun and I am quite pleased with the results.

These are awesome dude! I paint all sorts of soldiers, usually smaller than those. I spent two weeks, six hours a day, painting a squad of Nazis my friend gave me, and when I finally went to play with them I found that paint doesnt stick to plastic well, so I took a few hours to repaint the bits that came off and they became shelf soldiers.
I also started painting some standard army soldiers, which was much easier because theyre already the right color, so I just have to paint the guns and faces and belts and stuff. I have hundreds and hundreds, and now a few dozen look cooler than the rest. With those particular ones, the paint can chip off for all I care, cause it didnt take a lot of effort.
My newest project is some metal Romans and Gauls I borrowed from my grandpa. The paint stays on them, and god damn do they look cool now, but I cant seem to find time to finish them. Painting takes long when you use a toothpick as a brush.
Also for anyone who's wondering, yes, I am a 19 year old who still plays with soldiers, and Im proud of it.
"well the god we all praise and worship was not aware of his full potential till one fate full night, He was just out of medical school and brought to c-sec prison for the "murder" of some teachers that did not amuse MR.HEART, so what would anyone else do in that situation but murder the infidels. While he was in c-sec he was the one everyone would think would be a good target for there own "plesure" if you know what I mean!!! So people would try to hurt the young salarian, But he put them in there place and he was praised, scum there think they have been through hell but they haven't even made it to the front gate before they met the doctor and one night while his cell mate was sleeping he started to refresh his medical abilities and that was the night where he was blessed by his brother Ardenor crush to clone or "bless" others with a second or multiple organs and the guards figured this out and they went to take the doctor away, but really the doctor had the plan of making his cell mate look like a "god" and look like the doctor so they took the wrong person and the real, hot, amazing, clever, good doctor escaped and for years no one knew he was alive since the cell mate was put to death, but the real doctor could never die ahahahhahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaha"

Finally, a place for me to actually add to the forum after taking so, so much

If they're soft plastic, you really need to wash them in detergent beforehand, as the manufacturing process involves a layer of oil in the mould to ensure they release properly, and that isn't usually cleaned off before they're boxed up. If you do that, try undercoating to see if that sticks, and then paint. Varnish can help too, and making a base to handle them by. Hard plastics, as some manufacturers are starting to use, are better because they don't flex when handled. That's the commonest reason for paint to come off when mine see use.

It occurs to me that you just made me feel old. I've got minis that are older than you, and there are some Indian riflemen on my painting bench at home waiting to be finished.
So that I'm keeping to the point of the thread, I really like these. Jan is my favourite - I think I've got the same model somewhere, but would never have thought to turn it into Jan Jansen.

Back from the brink.
Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".
These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Thank you!
Good work!!!
Thanks! He was probably the most fun of them to make. One nice thing about this project is that I get to do lots of different things and use many varying colours. I usually paint miniatures for larger armies, where I tend to pick a single colour scheme and stick to it, with only minor variations for different kinds of units. It makes the army look good and unified but can be boring when you are painting 50th trooper with the same colours.Wow. Really. This is your best yet I think. Great color choice and impressive attention to detail. I'm really impressed with the modifications, and I love the look on his face. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I'd offer some advice, but I think Bluenose pretty much said it all already, though I'd stress the use of undercoat. I, still remember the time I began the hobby and painted without undercoat; it was like an uphill battle to get the pain to stick to the models. Now, I undercoat every single model and haven't had problem since I started doing so.Finally, a place for me to actually add to the forum after taking so, so much

Cool! I've thought about starting some historical game as an excuse to make a Roman Legion, but I fear I haven't got the time for it, as I already have way too many projects going on.My newest project is some metal Romans and Gauls I borrowed from my grandpa. The paint stays on them, and god damn do they look cool now, but I cant seem to find time to finish them. Painting takes long when you use a toothpick as a brush.
Heh, I'm 21 and proud of it too and some of my opponents have been over 30. Besides it is a creative and social hobby, and some games might even require you to use your brains a lot, so there is nothing to be ashamed of.Also for anyone who's wondering, yes, I am a 19 year old who still plays with soldiers, and Im proud of it.
Thank you as well! I don't think the idea would have normally occurred to me either, but I was specifically looking for models that I could convert to Baldur's Gate characters, when I noticed that it wouldn't take too much work to turn it to Jan.So that I'm keeping to the point of the thread, I really like these. Jan is my favourite - I think I've got the same model somewhere, but would never have thought to turn it into Jan Jansen.

I think he's got minatures older than him too.
haha yeah the Nazis I was talking about are from like 1973 or something.
Thanks for the advice Bluenose, it helps a lot.
Gorzag, as always you rock.
Now I have to get off cause JR insists I go to the Vale of Shadows and describe the statues to him. What a butthole.

She's tough, she's demanding, and not afraid to state her opinions out loud. Many Charnames have met her, and for some she's been a bit too much to bear while others may even have fallen in love with her. Without furhter words: Jaheira
I think the miniature looks a bit better in real life, but I'm still struggling to master the camera and this was the best shot I managed. If I'll manage a better one I'll post it later.
