SOLVED!

Okey my bad. It seem the problem also occurs on the vanilla BG2 ToB. So its something else on my computer.

Closing all open programs besides mIRC and disabling avast antivirus fixed the problem. I restarted all software back to see which one caused the problem but it didn't reapear yet. My guess is its realted to Steam or avast.

I started bwp 9.1 game with tactics preset, some one day npc weren't installed cos downloads didn't succeed but otherwise it should be pretty much the default.

(spell menu means the bottom action bar spell sub menu)
The problem is that when I load the game, I can cast spells on the guy I select first. When I select a second char the spell menu flashes and then goes back to main menu and it doesn't open the spell menu again when I click it.

I have to keep shift or ctrl pressed and then open the spell menu, if I let go of shift or ctrl while selecting the spelll, the menu resets back to main menu again. This is pretty annoying and I can't seem to find any way around it.

The problem exists with all sub menus (inate, spell etc.)

I first noticed this problem when I left the friendly arm inn and was on the crossroads map with imoen jaheira and khalid. Before that everything worked fine.

The party formation menu seems really buggy too (the one visible when more than 1 char is selected). Left clicking doesn't do anything. Right clicking turns each button into "oooooo" formation, pressing shift brings up the formation selection sub menu but you cant click anything. Pressing ctrl and left clicking on the top menu I can select formation from the sub menu properly, but I still can't select it. The only formation I can select is the "oooooo" one.

I guess I'll have to reinstal the whole thing and hope it goes away?

What configurations are you using? Open the BGConfig.exe in the game directory, and say what you have in the "Graphic" -portion of the setup(Display + 2D & 3D Options).

I would suggest that you would take a screen shot in the game, usually the PrtScr button can do that, it puts the shot into the ScrnShot -directory, you'll 'have to' then change the .bmp to a .png, easiest way is to open the picture with MSPaint and Save As in a .png format ... and upload the picture to a site like this, then put the direct link it(the site) provides to into these*:

*without the code thing.

I'm currently trying to reinstal it. The only change I made was that now its the "pure" default tactics installation with widescreen mod included. We'll see how it works out.

Okey reinstal fixed the problem for time being (loaded from old save, I like it risky).

Well I restarted my game when I noticed some wrong dialog. Unfortunately the bug reappeard again.

When I click the spell menu button nothing happens, it doesn't open the available spells. I'm using direct3d, windowed/fullscreen it happens every time.

Since this happened to me twice now, I think this bug can be reproduced simply by starting new default tactics game in BG1, having Imoen with you and walking to Friendly Arm Inn area (first time I noticed it again).

that's the primarily spell selector, as your class is Cleric/Mage, you cannot right click it.

But I can't open (left click) it at any character, nor can I open the inate selector either. When multiple characters are selected I can't open the formation selector (right click) and left clicking them doesn't select the formation, the #1 formation is always selected.

If I press ctrl or shift while clicking everything works as it should, if I release shift/ctrl the menus close and formation selection jumps back to #1.
