Greetins, all

Has anyone experience this problem with Baldur's Gate:

The music almost never plays. Try this at the start of the game: go into the door to CandleKeep Inn. Can you hear the bar music? Go in and out of the door several times and see if the music plays every time you enter.

This has been driving me insane. I tried on multiple PCs with difference patches / sound acceleration settings / directx versions ...

Only time the music plays is when starting combat, or when I force it by Alt+tab, or 'Q' (quicksave). Even when I get the bar music to start like this, it doesn't loop!

Please help me on this. I can't find anything on the 'net regarding this issue. After some troubleshooting I could only get this problem to stop when the game runs really slow (either by forcing software BLTs, or using slowdown utilities like Moslo or Turbo ... etc.) and choppy. So I presume that ALL fast modern PCs should be seeing this problem (PIII processors and above)

Thanks,

Sinick

Dear all,

I still haven't found any solution for this.

I'd like to know at least if other players are havin this issue at all. Can you please try this in your normal Baldur's-Gate install:

Repeatedly go in/out of Winthrop's inn at the start of the game, and see if the tavern music always plays when you enter or not.

Thanks/regards

Most of the music tracks in the game have delays on them so that the music does not begin the moment you enter the area. The delay is usually fairly lengthy. Combat music has no delays. Also, combat music is, by far, the loudest music in the game. If I want to hear ambient music, I have to crank up the music volume until the combat music is almost painfully loud. Maybe one of these days, someone will remaster the combat tracks so they aren't so deafening.

Thanks for replying, berelinde

What I mean is that music is not playing AT ALL (not just queit). For example, after Gorion dies and the chapter-1 narrative screen comes, 9/10 times the music doesn't start at all on my present computer.

I clearly remember that narrative screen music playing every single time years ago on my old PC (Pentium 200MHz).

I think the cause is my CPU being too fast, because the music plays normally once I set a slowdown utility to the point that the frames skip horribly. This may be bad programming in the game engine itself and may be beyond fixing by modding.

Still, I'd appreciate feedback from other players if they have also experienced this when playing nowadays. If it is common, then maybe we can raise the issue to Bioware? (Pray for a patch?   :crying: )

Well I think you have a bit of a too high impression about Bioware :D I also can say that this point of view is quite naive. Praying is hopeless - want to do it, do it yourself or ask others for tips :)

Though I noticed that music in BG2 start playing only after a while. You know it's like you are exploring a forest, listening to birds chirping then BAM, you hear a music and you realize that there are not only battle themes in this game. But after a short while you forget about it and again there are only bird chirping and monster growling.
