New problem:
I've run into some cave(AR3575) under umar hills inhabited by draiders. There was only one way out of there - by climbing some rope which led to werewolf cave(AR1403) in "Temple Ruins" (AR1404). The problem is when i leave this cave the game freezes for ~10 seconds. Then, after ~5 seconds of gameplay it freezes again for about a minute. And then it freezes one more time for about ~5 minutes or so. I couldn't even escape this area. I tried to get back to cave when game starts freezing, but even in the cave it then continues lagging. What the hell? I've tried dropping most items and leaving companions behind, setting all settings to lowest, that does not help.

Has anybody encountered the same issue? What are the most common ways to solve such problems?

Guys here: http://www.shsforums...opic/43769-lag/ seem to have encountered the same prob. But i could not figure out what the did to get rid of it. Could anyone please explain?

Fxd:
Pheeew.. Solved. I figured out what leomar said: i just copied "wolfm.itm" from "refinements/backup" to "override" and freezing vanished. Maybe it would be wise to deal with it during BWP installation? It seems to be BWP problem, right?

Here is my problem with BWP 9.1 default Tactics mode. Two NPCs and some paladin kits are missing (because files are nolonger online) but other than that its the exact default installation.

Starting BG1 game, picking up Imoen and walking to Friendly Arm Inn and the bottom menus no longer open. Each time I open Main menu, Character information screen or other full screen menu the problem resets, so I can open bottom menus for few secs again.

Video explaining what menus refuse to open after few secs ingame: http://www.ylilammi....dur/MenuBug.mov
Weidu log: http://www.ylilammi....aldur/Weidu.log

Oh one thing, I modified the BWP instal bat so it also installed BG2 Tweaks: Max health on lvl up for main char and NPC's.
~BG2_TWEAKS/SETUP-BG2_TWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #3000 // Higher HP on Level Up -> Maximum: v8
~BG2_TWEAKS/SETUP-BG2_TWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #3012 // Maximum HP for NPCs (the bigg) -> For Party-Joinable NPCs Only: v8

Howdy!

I had a nearly perfect Tactical install, and everything has been sweet so far. Until now. My party enters Tazok's cabin in the Bandit camp. Dialog happens, fight starts. And then the game crashes to desktop.

Any ideas?

@MsKitty
baldur.err
you know, it's quite useful.

Jan Jansen quest bug:
I'm working on Jan's quest about Vaelag vengeance. I've discovered some things about Vaelag's messes with shadow thieves and stuff and the Jan said that he has come up with yet another great plan and i am to meet him at the copper coronet. He disappears from the party. But i've searched all the copper coronet and was unable to find him.

What do i have to do to know where is he now? Any suggestions?

Temporary solved by ShadowKeepering+CLUA'ing jan back to party. but that's not an option i think.

Anyone knows why with Shadowdruid or Dark Druid kit i get no spells? I suppose it's a BWP bug related, since i can't find any trace of this problem looking at specific mod support topics.
With standard druid (and other kits too, such as Blighter) everything's fine.

Hi,

I finally managed to install BWP, more or less a standard+tactic installation with custom(minor) changes to the install.bat and only some NPC, the problems I met so far are:

1) some typos in the BWP install.bat, compared to what the pdf guide states:
*	SCS component 6005 (harder spiders) isn't included in tactical install
*	SCSii component 6081 is installed instead of 6082 (tactical)

2) Mage Hunter kit from TDD crashed when resting, the problem in my install resided in a corrupt SPMH701.SPL (innate spell turning), I solved copying SPIN146.SPL in the override folder and renaming it to SPMH701.SPL

3) Kelsey (and probably other mods) replace many spells from Spell Revisions, that are turned back to the original BG spells. I copied many spells from the kelsey backup folder to the override and this solved the problem for many spells (I don't know if there are still others missing), but strangely their description matches spell_rev v2 and not v3, but I'm using a german install so maybe the translation hasn't been updated?

4) I can't get fighter/druids wearing helmets or armors fighters can use, even if I unchecked the components in Item Revisions and Level1NPC.

5) mod-related: some items from old mods (i.e. Stone of Askavar) use the old BG proficiency system and are useless.

6) Secret of Bone Hill v275 (not 275a) didn't install

Will uninstall 393 files for [SETUP-BONEHILLV275.TP2] component 0.
Uninstalled 393 files for [SETUP-BONEHILLV275.TP2] component 0.

7) on a personal side, I think some components should be excluded from a standard install (i.e. in RItemPack, some components are very useful, like the Girdle of Fortitude, but I wouldn't want the Celstial Fury or the Crom Faeyr to be taken away..), and some components from BG2Tweaks added: 1120 (it doesn't affect magical arrows/bolts anyway), 1220, 2060, 3000 (max HP on level up), 3010/3012. Personal opinions anyway.

I installed both BP and SCS AI, until now it's ok, I'll see what will happen later :)

3) I can't get fighter/druids wearing helmets or armors fighters can use, even if I unchecked the components in Item Revisions and Level1NPC.

This is a feature of IR v2's main component. (In v3, it will not be.) If you dislike the feature, you can revert it with this.

Is there any version of BWP that could be played through without game stopping bugs?

It seems the spell/inate/formation menu bug is not related to any scripts AFAIK. I installed LStest mod to see what scripts were running and tried emptying those, no help. The bug appears also when the game is paused. So if I have the game paused and inventory open then jump to game screen, everything works as it should for ~7 seconds and then the menus stop functioning.

Really weird. What component could cause this kind of behaviour?

EDIT: Okey my bad. It seem the problem also occurs on the vanilla BG2 ToB. So its something else on my computer.

EDIT2: Closing all open programs besides mIRC and disabling avast antivirus fixed the problem. I restarted all software back to see which one caused the problem but it didn't reapear yet. My guess is its realted to Steam ro avast.

Like I said for Imoen, edit your baldur.gam file under SAVs with Near Infinity and scroll down the list of party NPCs until you see where Jan is.

And folks, do *not* install or play mods or even the unmodded game with Avast or other antivirus programs running (that should probably be pinned somewhere if it isn't).

Why not play? Y always played with avast on and it *seems* to be ok. Well, no?

Another issue:
I saved my char and started a new BG2 game. And he loses innate "Scribe Scrolls" ability. Actually there are two "Scribe scrolls" : one is given in childhood mod and the other when i doubled to mage. One that from childhood does not work at all, and the other due to unknown reasons is lost after character import. Ability is present in .chr file(shadowkeeper) but is lost when a new game is started. Any suggestions?

Install I can understand (and that's workaround-able by disabling just the components that scan your system ... if it's possible, like for avast) ... but turning of the antivir to play??

Never turned it off to play anything, and no problems .. yet  Besides, Bercon's not sure whether it was avast or something else!

There's no reason for antivirus to be on while playing BWP, unless you're playing online/multiplayer. And if you're doing that with BWP, I'd have to gawk with amazement.

But even then, antivirus isn't going to help you much, because what you want is a decent firewall (and there are very few of these around, as they all tend to start sliding downhill to become crapware if they weren't to begin with). If you still don't understand, read at least the first few paragraphs here on how antivirus software works.

Do you really want your game lagging worse than it does already, because you've got some on-access signature scan running in the background? Don't come crying to me or anyone else on the forum about it, unless you're truly sure it's not something memory-resident messing with it. And that's the best-case scenario. Worst-case is it finds some false positive in the code that vaguely resembles a virus signature and crashes your game for no reason. And we know for fact this happens with mod installs - there's no reason why it couldn't during normal gameplay as well.

About firwealls, I do keep comodo. Tweaking anitvirs and walls isn't my forte, so I like a "start-and-forget" solution. Besides, having an antivir running, personally, gives me a sense of security (however misplaced or false it may be :P) And I did have a go through the wiki link :D

And about lags, while I'm not denying that lags cannot occur cause of antivirs, it's not that they're the only reason for stutters. Of the thousands of stutter issues in this forum, I'd be surprised even if more than 5% of them were cause of an antivir running in the background ^_^ The way you put it, it sounds like having an antivir on WILL make your game lag, which hasn't been the case for me atleast.

At the end of the day, it probably just comes down to convenience, cause:
1) Start up the PC
2) Leave everything running and play BGII

is much easier than
1) Start PC
2) Disconnect internetz
3) Disable/close antivir (and other memory freakiness)
4) Play BGII

Yeah I confirmed that the problem was caused by Avast. Disabling Avast, starting the game and enabling Avast while the game is running worked in my case. But I guess it is a good idea to keep it disabled during playing too, just to avoid any additional problems.

If you are behind NAT and got a firewall (even Windows firewall) then disabling antivirus for short period shouldn't be a problem at all. Just avoid browsing web while its off.

Updated: "BiG World Fixpack"

Version Beta 9.1.1 (06 May 2010)
- Corrected BW Fixpack fix of "Big Picture"
- Updated official hotfixes of "Spell Revisions v3" (05/05/2010)
- Updated BW Fixpack tweak for "BG1UB v12"
- Updated BW Fixpack patches for "Banter Packs v12" and "Unfinished Business v19"
- Removed fixes of "Angelo NPC", "Mawgul NPC", "Sarah NPC" and "Song and Silence"
- Removed !Dead(Myself) fixes of "Divine Remix"
- Removed some old "_BWP fixes.txt" entries

This update is only done to consider the new released mod-updates for the last days. Next, I'll go through the "Fixes for the BiG fixpack" thread.

[EDIT]

Oh, if you want to report only in-game bugs, pleeeeaase, open a new topic for it.
This thread should be for installation problems, BWP questions, and such things.
Thanks.

Greetings Leomar

Hey Leomar, is it possible to apply these fixes on top of current instal and still use old save games (spells perhaps)? How big fixes are these, is it possible to succesfully play through the game without them?

I wonder this as well, Leomar.

Becouse I just installed the BWP (using recomended setting + added some extra stuff that shouldnt create extra bugs) 2 days ago. I think it was just in time to install the new versions of thoose mods. I can add, that for the first time, the install seemed flawless. No errors whatsoever.

How severe is this? Do I have to reinstall?

Thanks for any answer :)

I should mention of course, that theese are the mods in question that I installed into my BWP, that you mentioned in this latest fixpack update:

Spell revisions v3
BG1UB v12
Banter Packs v12
Unfinished buisness v19
Sarah NPC

And of course, I used the fixpack that was current at the time. 2 days ago.

Now, again, how will this affect my game?

thanks :)
