I'm using what I think is the latest BWS , 20121017 and it successfully downloaded the update file.

I'm doing a standard BWS install as a base and cross checking with BiG World version 11 , when I see something odd.

I've noticed the following oddities:
Throne of Baal Extender
0106 - Use Caster Level On Mirror Image - Is not installed although it is in BiG World

ToBEx - 0100 is preferred to Spell Revisions 020 , 030 and 050 , while the PDF installs 0100 and all 3 of these. ToBEx - 0102 also clashes with Spell Revision 040 and again the PDF installs both.

This seems inconsistent to me. Not sure if this is something thats changed or if something got missed because the PDF installs Revisions in multiple passes.

ETA - There's also some odd things like Checkboxes and text not matching eg Ashes of Embers (EN) has green text but a red checkbox. The description suggests that the red checkbox is correct.

I don't look into the PDF to update the settings. Instead, I look at the batch and compare the old version of a batch to a new one with a diff-tool (I use winmerge). That's simply a try to keep the workload low. So of you look into the batch, 106 does not get installed, so it's just a difference in Leonardos PDF and the files from the installpack.

I'll remove the TobEx <> Spell_Rev stuff.
Those fixes were part of ToBHacks, and had conflicts with / were duplicates of Spell_rev, so I think I kept that since those components from TobHacks were replaced by ToBEx.

Should be fixed with the last release. Also updated download-links, translations and components.

I'm just running through my first install of 11 and it's gone mostly fine. One thing I noticed in the component selection was that there were some identical options in scs and scsII which weren't listed as conflicting, such as chance of dropped potions breaking, faster bears, those kind of options. For some reason the potions option comes up as orange on scs but standard green in scsII. That's the only UI confusion, other than that there are no crashes so far, other than Kagain's Korner from the 'BG1 NPCs for SoA' not getting installed, even after a fresh download and retry. Couldn't see the reason behind why this is.

Got a question on the lvl1 NPCs mod too. I'm assuming the tweaks are handled just as they are in the component list, but is one able to select the classes/stats of NPCs if their component is selected? Just not really sure about this mod in the setup, it's always confused me but I've forgotten how I used to get around it.
EDIT~ Just got to that point and I'm glad to see it's asking for choices in the console. Always assumed it would just skip ahead with some presets, has it always been like this?

Finally I'd like to say this seems to be going great, congrats. Been following this project since...BWP 7.0 I think, it's great to see firstly the inclusion of component choices but also their conflicts too, very helpful.

EDIT~ has it always been like this?

Well, no, not until the BWS was updated to use components ... it actually needed to not install the Gen Biff to use the NPC components via manual install.
As were a lot of other stuff... but the BWS process has improved a lot... as there was times when there was no BWS or even BWP.. just BP and a lot of messes.
But the Level 1 NPCs mod hasn't changed far from it's beta... in so far as asking all the questions it does. The BWS'es installer just runs the file. Yeah, I actually tried the mod when it was still a beta. Partially it was because code goddess that created it moved on to something else.
There was a lot of alpha ideas for it though. Ouh, and I copied the coding idea onto my own borrowed mod, the iiSpellSystemAdjustment...

Yeah, but that's besides the point of this thread, as the BWS beta has been set free too room the world as a gamma...(as the official).

This is my first time using BWS (and BWP), as all this years I've been unaware of its existence, so I'm probably making a stupid mistake.
BWS version is 20121202, the games are from GOG and the compilation being installed is "Tactic" BWP. I didn't remove or add any mods.

This compilation selects SoS, CtB and TDD. It also adds NeJ2 6.8. The problem is the installation stops because of this part in NeJ2's script:

ACTION_IF (FILE_EXISTS ~data/CTB-RULE.BIF~)
  OR (FILE_EXISTS ~data/SOS-RULE.BIF~)
  OR (FILE_EXISTS ~data/TDD-RULE.BIF~)
THEN BEGIN
FAIL ~You may not install this mod with other big mods!~
END

So I'm not sure what to do. Should I just ignore it and continue? If they can't be installed together, why are they all in the tactic compilation?

Also, the mod "BGT NeJ2 Compatibility Modification" is selected. I think that according to the pdf, it's been marked obsolete because NEJ2 can handle the BGT compatibility by itself. It's not really being installed anyway, the log says "The condition to install the component at this point could not be matched.", but I wonder why this mod is selected.

Again, I'm probably missing something obvious, but I'm curious about the answers.

Well if you know the essential factor... ... the files in question are actually prevented from being created with the BiG World Install pack with the help of one of the enhancements, so they won't eat your hard drive space by containing surplus files that are later overwritten again, again and again, and the finally .biffed using the Generalized Biffing. There was a topic about this actually.

I'm using the latest version of BWS, using the "Standard" install on Windows 8, but my BWS log file contains gems like this:

find: `/i': No such file or directory
find: `Windows 95': No such file or directory
find: `/i': No such file or directory
find: `Windows 98': No such file or directory
find: `/i': No such file or directory
find: `Windows Millennium': No such file or directory
find: `NT': No such file or directory
find: `XP': No such file or directory
find: `2000': No such file or directory
[weidu] WeiDU version 23100

It starts with The Darkest Day mod , and then occurs frequently thereafter.

It looks to me like something (Weidu when using a function call?) is calling find.exe (and expecting the standard windows find command which has a /i flag) but the Big Word _utils version (from Fix/Trim/Install/Text pack) of find is getting called instead which appears to be a Windows port of a linux version which uses the *nix - flag structure, so its essentially searching for random stuff and getting passed random flags if any of the text incudes a hyphen. Since the utils version of find doesn't seem to be copied anywhere and its not on my PATH, I suspect BWS is executing from the wrong directory / failing to change directories somewhere.

I've attached my install log (it terminates at Check the Bodies due to unrelated errors), but you can see this happen before then.

If you want any other log or debug files let me know and I'll upload them..

That's a part of the BiG World Fixpack and find maybe has some problems with the Crefixer.

In the "aTweaks" mod there is a new component, that makes the rewards for evil players better. I tried to see if there was an option to add it into my compilation, but it seems that inside the big world setup beta, it is nowhere to be found. Am I wrong?

I guess you could read the FAQ in your BiG World Setup\Docs-folder or try this one.

To sum it up,
Go to the BiG World Setup\Config-folder
Open Select.txt with an editor of your choice
Search for atweaks and add a line like this (and replace number with the actual one, here I guess it would be 270):

STD;aTweaks;NUMBER;16;1111;

Save and you are done. Start the BWS.

If the translation for the component was not in there already, you'd have to open the Weidu-XX.ini, where XX is your translation and add those to the mods section.

I must be sincere, Dabus, sorry, I didn't know there was a folder with the docs inside.
Please, could you write it, in the main post on the first page? If I knew it I wouldn't have wasted your time! I must admit that I didn't bear to take a look because I thought that by being in a beta state, no .doc was currently inside the folder.

Thanks for the attention, you were really kind.

Well, besides the point that the first post link doesn't point anymore to the "beta" but to the actual release ... the post is like 2 years old... and this topic could be closed.

Hey,

does anyone know whether there is a way to just install the graphics and sound tweaks that lost crossroads spellpack offers, without changing the actual spells? The author of this mod plannes to release a tweak pack that does exactly that, but he cannot tell when it will be released.

So does anyone know what I would have to do to install ONLY the improved graphics and sounds, but not the changes to the actuals spells?
here's the link to the mod Forum: http://forums.blackw...hp?showforum=50

Thank you,
Marvin

Well, I don't know the exact specifics, and if the mod author doesn't release the mods files as the alternative mod the moment he got the idea... it's likely that the tweak needs a little more than is said... as the spells need a new reference to the new files.

EDIT:
Unfortunately the mod is complicated enough that it uses about 15 additional .tph files... which make the process of resembling it to a short and sweet tweak kinda hard. And let's not forget that the graphics involve the spells casting graphic, the projectile graphics and the effect graphics, which involve the actual ,spl file, .pro files with projectile.ids file and the .eff files... in that order which remake the files at least to the exact originals if any alternative spell mod has already been installed if and when the patching is not conditionally tied to the file it's based upon, which it's not in the SpellPackB6 ...but to the base of the mods own files.

hello, first apologize for my English, I do not speak the language.

I'm testing the Big World Projekt and I have a little problem. I ran the BiG World Setup saliendome a list of mods and such, I can choose where I want to install and which not, in my case the version tactic well, I closed the program to put the Spanish of the mods and now, no I get no list of mods or anything, I said that the mods are already installed, and I have to do a backup, but not how. It also tells me to do a fresh install of BG2 and do not understand why? placing a copy of the folder Black Isle, where I have the BG1 and BG2, I feel the same.

any solutions?

thanks

hello, first apologize for my English, I do not speak the language.

That's totally ok, I just hope I understood you correctly.

I'm testing the Big World Projekt and I have a little problem. I ran the BiG World Setup saliendome a list of mods and such, I can choose where I want to install and which not, in my case the version tactic well, I closed the program to put the Spanish of the mods

Well, you should firstly should have a folder with all your already downloaded Baldur's Gate mods(or make a copy of one), and rename that as the "BiG World Downloads"... then you need a clear BG2 game (a full install of SoA and ToB and patched to the v(2.5.)26498 or to v(2.5.)26499) and then you can start to extract the setup, and to do that you just launch the Big World Setup.exe you can download. After that's done or when you ever want to restart the actual program, you start the "BiG World Setup.vbs" file. Then you should use the Spanish setting to start the setup... it then allows you to select the several things you say.

and I have to do a backup, but not how.

It should actually ask if you want to make a backup... and if you answer yes, it will take you through that option and copy the needed files take about 180 MBs. The Big World Setup.vbs then can use that as it's own backup if you want to reinstall the mods, you just run the "BiG World Setup.vbs" file again, and it will only do so if there's already installed mods in the game folder. Now if then there's no mods yet installed, it will then take you to the download and then to the extraction sections and so forth and so on...

So the solution is simply to have a clean BG2 install...

You selected your folders and other options and closed the BWS.
You did not download, extract or install anything while you had the BWS running?

Then you started it again and got the message that you had mods installed.
What is in your WeiDU.log?

And the modselection was not available because you trimmed your selection to Spanish only. Or did I miss your point? I don't understand why you'd replace files. Or are you skipping some parts of your description? If you extracted files and want to replace them, then the BWS configuration would have needed to be edited as well.
I also had the impression that the Textpack would do the patching for you.

I upgraded my computer to windows 8. Now when I run BWS I see this:

Waiting for an internet-connection...
Searching for changed mod-downloads
Fetching mod-downloads failed.

Probably the required file for the BWS is not available at the moment.

Due to these circumstances some downloads may not be available or older versions may be loaded.

Since this implies a high potential of errors, we advice you to close the application, wait a few minutes and try to execute the the application
once more.

Edit2: Solved. I guess I solved my problem, I found "the button to the right". Silly me.

Quick question, is it safe to add specific mods to a compilation (eg. Total happiness) by
1. placing mods for compilation + specific mods to the download folder
2. use bigger compilation (eg. Tactics) that include all those mods
3. disconnect from internet and install Tactics (no additional tactics mods will download).

I used this method and it seemed successful, all the in game mods I've tried work (so far). Except I dont have the BGT menu when I start the game (as I would have in "Total happiness"). Although it might be just a tactics compilation settings, it got me a bit puzzled.

I've read the manual for adding mods, my way seemed safer from typos and wrong settings at first. Not so sure now.

Thanks

Edit: What I would like to achieve is to make a Total happiness compilation with a few additional mods like Longer Road, Rogue Rebalanced and a few dificult mods like Super Firkraag

@Smeagolheart:
You could skip the update when starting and try to use the update-button that's located in the screen after the folder-selection. You should get a bit more detail what goes wrong. I don't have windows 8 to test anything, but maybe it's some firewall/adminrights-problem?

@Kyjan:
If you use other compilations, you most likely get other component-selections. At least those selections from Jarl are trimmed down to keep the game closer to the original than full blown BWP installs.
Why don't you add the mods you want to? I assume you just did not read the help-text to the right and never clicked on the [...]-button? You get the selection-screen with all mods and components and you can decide what you'd like to have in there.
