Uhm, I was asked if I could do some proofreading for the configuration-update Tim made.
I did change some things but I don't intend to maintain the BWS configuration.
I'd like to do some minor bug-fixing but won't reinvent the wheel / add lots of features.
I also don't want to invest that much time like I did in the past. So I wouldn't call it "being back" - just don't expect too much.

Thanks for the BWS revival guys! Seriously this is a great day. I thought it was over for good. I'm gonna get going trying it as soon as I get time :)

If someone has a problem with this Beta you also may post it here, I am looking frequently into this Forum.

At the moment we are really just Betatesting... it is kind of stable, but you know... one can never test everything by oneself ;)

Also if you see broken links or know that there are never versions.. the links within BWS are automatically imported from the Kerzenburg Linklist. Please let us know when there is something wrong with it. (At the Moment NeJ is not actual there but this will also come.)

I'm a bit curious though. The BWS was abandoned the last time because it was hard to maintain it. That is very understandable really with all the mods and components and such.

So have you guys done some kind of change to the strategy here, or are there just new people maintaining it?

Actually we have a new strategy. In the future we will have a frontend on Kerzenburg with all information the BWS needs, so that the community is able to insert data. And from this database the updates for BWS will be created every day.

Also we are working on a solution to insert all the needed component and languageinformation of the Mods automatically, as we are able to get this data with Weidu. But as I said, we are working on it. At the moment only the actual downloadlink is updated for BWS automatically. We hope to minimize the need for maintaining... fingers crossed ;)

BWS! How I have missed you!

Fantastic to have this back up again. I have used this with success... but a few minor issues, actually BWS runs fine, the big issues stem from virus protection.

Norton Internet Security (I cannot vouch for other security programmes but they may have the same problems) treats the the programme (wdgt?) suspiciously and quarantines it! You can take it out of quarantine and restore, and tell the computer you will take the risk using it... but it no longer works. The only solution was to reinstall, then turn off the firewall and the antivirus to allow it to download. I did a full virus scan straight after. No viruses. I got no worthwhile data on this comp anyway and I don't let my computer remember passwords. :lol2:

You need to click ok on a lot of boxes during the self extraction phase (still a hell of a lot faster than opening and extracting yourself!!!) :new_thumbs:

Kerzenburg can be slow to update but the download still works? For me volcanic armoury 1.4 was downloaded as a 0kb file? it is now at 1.5 and can be found here http://www.mediafire...cy4z1or86dw4aop

I also had problems for the elven_pack.rar got that one from here http://iegmc.shphock...om/racialpacks/ again I downloaded a 0kb file?

The rest worked fine. However 2 questions....

How would I let the people at Kerzenburg know about the old links and letting them know about the new links?

Does the component section of BWS work? Does it update th install.bat?

Whatever the outcome. I'm just glad it's back. Thank you Dabus for getting the ball rolling again and it looks like it may just keep rolling... fingers crossed.

Mediafire will always fail since you have to visit their site and press a button to unlock the download of the file itself.
If you know how to do that with httpget, let me know.

I've adjusted the download and it should start to complain about 0 byte files.
I've also decompressed wget since it's likely that Norton complains about the upx-compression it uses (that's a neat tool to compress executables).
Will be uploading the changed files soon.

I don't know about the eleves... I'd guess that some kind of random error.

The selection does work. It's used every time you do an install.
Either by selecting a preselection or press the button that's just around the same spot.
Which reminds of complaining about "users" and them reading the help/description. ;D

If you want to select the mods by yourself, be sure to click the button to the right. It is recommend to do this if you choose a Standard-, Tactic, or Expert-version.

The install.bat was never edited when installation was done by the BWS. It was edited when the batch was not able to find the correct path for BG1.
I did not want to edit the batch because of the following reasons:

It was not a clean as it is now when it started. You got separate files for the version and languages. It was not possible to select your language(s) you wanted to have.
You cannot pause / stop the batch and continue from there on.
There's no check for errors during the install, which means if you got an error somewhere on the way, just will continue without any chance for you to stop it, fix the problem or something. So if there is a bigger problem, you'll have to start from scratch again.
It does not contain alternatives. If you like banters to come up after 30 minutes and not 60, you are screwed. So you'd have to live with that or still edit the batch which I wanted to eliminate.
Leonardo has edited mostly every version of the batch so you'd have to check each one for changes (does it still work).

Removing mods from the batch with a GUI would be possible but you still have to have dependencies and conflict-checking and if you put it all together, it sums up that I thought: Ok, I'll take it as a basis but I'll have to make use of other methods to install that rascal.

Dabus! Thanks for the reply, and the info.

Need to give some extra user experience using BWS. I started with a small selection of (rather random!) mods to start with and now building it up.

You CAN keep your virus protection on. You just need to take the file out of quarantine quickly before it mucks up the downloads. Not ideal but better than turning of virus protection completely.

The 0kb files happens with others. Strangely they also disapper. I wanted to give a list of mods effected but they have now gone from my BiG world Downloads folder.

Yep. Media fire is a bit of a pain. But the BWS still takes you to the page. Much easier than doing it completely by yourself :new_thumbs:

Trying it again, but with an expert install this time to see what happens. I'm a bit nuts when it comes to wanting a perfect install with all the mods I want :tease:

And I actually like using the BWS, makes it fun!

Hi. Tx for the effort. First of all, I am a newbie messing around comp stuff, but thought I´d give some feedback , and so help you with this project. Tried a Tactical/custom instalation, and had some problems. Had to download elven packmanually, mix mod, nikita redux and bg1 npc - componenet xzar - montaron could nor be installed. The widescreen mod didnt work as well, had to run it after Bws was completed. The new kit for Imoen ( Charming Rogue ), Jaheira and Sharr Tell didnt show up too. A am attaching my weido.log and my selection of mods on BWS, hope this helps. Gonna try another install next week, if I have time.

Tx again for the hard work, see u

The link for elven pack and Armory have been changed. The change for Armory is just a new WeiDU -- which is basically nothing since it's replaced anyway.
If you want to debug the errors, you could check the Logs-folder for BiG World Install Debug.txt.
You could also upload the BiG World Debug.7z file that's located in your BG2-folder and see if someone can help you...

hm... I'm confused.
Is the 'New BWS' setup process still use *.bat (installpack, fixpack) files or it has an independent script? I'm asking 'cause BWP Installpack contains some critical errors and BWP Fixpack contains some outdated fixes (e.g. DSotSC)

It uses fix- text- trim- and smoothpack.
Since Leonardo said he doesn't want to have someone editing files, I'd suggest you open up a page with a list of patches for the patches -- if he's absent for some months. ;)

I don't want to keep track of it.

My idea for a later automation would be something like that:
The basis is kept. Someone / a group creates an archive with the additional fixes that have to be copied into the corresponding folders and add a marker that can be used to determine which patches have to be removed.

Remember: A patchfile that is empty does not patch a thing. So if you put files into a "fix for the fix"-archive and extract it with an overwrite-option, dsotsc-files would be overwritten with empty files and the patching would stop. You could also use some other methods to do that like another batch or whatever.

Also note that outdated patches are rejected by the patch-program if the code at the corresponding lines has changed.

So guys get the files as usual, get the additional package that fixes the fixpack and (nearly ?) everyone is happy.

Good idea! Also russian translation team have many fixed and updated files for BWP Textpack. Can we post it on forum? Or we break copyright?

I don't know about copyrights (the BWP has been overwriting files for ages, so I don't assume that adjusting their outdated stuff will hurt someone -- in case you meant that).
I also don't know if it's a bit fast to add another package if you'd do it now. The last update for Russian was 11 days ago.
I also must admit that I didn't understand why the textpack contains translations if the mod is still developed / has a caretaker (I see vecna, ub, bg2fixpack to name a few).

Not. Last Textpack was 19th february. But link was broken. And 11 days ago was fixed. Thanks to K'aeloree.

Vecna's author seems to be not avilable... Bg2Fixpack translation not updated for 1-2 year. And we many times send tra files but it seems that 9 version of fixpack is a last and no one care about mini translation update :o . So Leo's Textpack is our savior :)

Ok.

So you just translate too much :D ... and developers are too slow/not available/don't bother.
Maybe you could ask Lol about how to create patches if you'd like to create a package. He's creating his borkpack for some time now.
And as said, I'd suggest you modify the current one, since Leonardo seemed concerned about copyrights and stuff.
