Whoa, just stuck at the exact same position as Discordia.
Starting again is my only option I guess.

It's stuck again, this time patching works fine...but running the setup it doesn't go beyond

I suppose this is a new version, at least it's the first time I see the batch process not opening an own window, though in the task manager there are some 3 to 5 cmd.exe running...

Haven't tried just running the Big World Install batch file just yet, will probably do so tomorrow.

Type in your Baldur's Gate directory. Read the readme!

In the auto-it there's no such prompt...I remember having to do it in cmd.exe version of the install though...
Does capitalization matter? Oh well, I'll try again.
Thx.

Yes, it works...for some reason however Dark Horizons never seems to install correctly, I hope this isn't much of an issue.

Ahhhhahaha. So that's the catch. Thank you.

Installation successful, some minor components couldn't be installed (unnerfed THAC0 tables, unnerfed caster memorization tables), nothing important. (Dark Horizons installed successfully btw.)

An Assertion failed in CTiledObject.cpp at line numer 179
Programmer says: Tiled object resref not found

This was upon creating a human Wilderness Samurai and trying to start the game.

It crashes to desktop, well, actually I have to go to ctrl alt del to make it get to the desktop...
During the course of the installation about 5 mods could not be installed, one of them being Dark Horizons...forgot the rest since I figured it would be no biggy.

Ok, I hate to be the total newb in the party, but I feel like an idiot here.

Can someone tell me what the install is supposed to look like? I've installed BG2 and ToB, I've patched ToB to 24698, I've quick saved in the games, and I'm trying to put in BiG World. Thing is, I get through the setup up to the stage where I select the version. I put - in for BG1 (I don't have the hours in life to do BG1 AND BG2 again), I select english and the "Standard" version, and then I hit "Continue"

And then nothing happens. It just sits. I thought I'd give it some time, I come back and it's still sitting. I try to cancel, or exit, and nothing, totally non-responsive. I try it only multiple computers, and both suffer the same thing. No error messages, it never moves to another screen or a progress bar or anything. I'm not sure if it's SUPPOSED to do this or not.

Is it supposed to take forever without showing anything? Am I just impatient? Or is there something wrong?

Where can we get the latest version of BWS beta? The provided website returns 404.

It seems Leonardo has uploaded it to BWP section here at SHS.

Settled for a recommended. The game gets rather slow at times, so much so that it literally freezes, sometimes for several minutes...I'm pretty certain it has to do with stuffing my bag of holding and scrollbooks (used lvl1npc to turn Nalia into a rather good pickpocket, so I've been stealing the entire stock of that girl that sells scrolls in Ribald's...when it crashed...or I think it did).
But then again, how am I supposed to make any decent coin now with the sell prices dropped into oblivion and the buying price increased tenfold...
Would it maybe help if I used different scrollbooks?

If I remember correctly it's supposed to start downloading the selected mods at that time. If I were you I'd check whether an instance of wget is running in the background (from Task Manager) and if the firewall is letting it connect to the Internet.

So...The BWS Beta can't fetch updates right now :( what to do?

I realize that the BWS is in need of a maintainer right now, but doesnt it take the updates for the modlist from the normal BWP? As so to not really need that much maintence? Otherwise what is the point with the update system built in?

Either way, it won't update...how would one install the BWP now? (I need the customization...the BWS Beta is a godsend)

I am currently working on that point. I code a new tool based on BWS. I can use its data and its constraint. Still have to do the template tree and to domain part (auto instal of mods).

I realize that I made a big mistake: I based my code on BWS, but I should have worked with BWP BiG World Install.bat directly because this is the core of everything, and it is ALWAYS uptodate.

So I am actually coding a parser of this file that will directly convert the .bat into a more user friendly UI, and theorically no maintainer will be need -- I say THEORICALLY :)

The result should be a merging of BWS, BWP and a tool that I made for myself.

@shadowlich:
I thought about that, too but there are a lot of folks that want to install this and not that and there are multiple choice or sub-selections. I'm also sure that Leonardo will add another %ipdfoifsdpoisf%-SET-variable and some more batch-commands to his install.bat that will likely keep you busy.

At least that's what happened when I had written a parser for the batch and the PDF and it was all wasted effort so I made something up.

So the BWS Beta needs it's own, customized, update between BWP versions?

And that is why it can't be used right now? someone needs to update it for the recent BWP? Have I got that right?

I thought it had the built in update function so that it could follow the BWP...

Erm -- what do you mean by "updates that it can follow the BWP"?

A)
I updated my local files, ran some kind of diff-program, put the output-files onto a server.
The BWS would fetch them and "patch" the current BWS-files and thus update it to the current version.

I won't do that any more and the server-profile is cancelled.

B)
There is a list at the Kerzenburg that provides current URLs.

I did not write a script to fetch the URLs from that list (there's no unique WeiDU-setup name in that list).
So it will not follow that list, either.

C)
And as I said, the batch-file is not flexible enough to handle multiple choices (like install component 0 default or 1 tactic) or different subs (press 0 for 30 minutes, 1 for 15 minutes, ... delay between banters).

Thank you for the reply dabus.

I was curious to how things worked with updates in the BWS Beta so thank you for explaining it.

I naively assumed that the BWS Beta used the same kind of update files as the "normal BWP" for the new ordering of the mods, new links, new mods etc, and *then* it would provide component choice.

Yeah, I don't know much of theese things.

But I can at least give my condolences for your situation. I hope you all the best, and thank you once more for tinkering together this tool. I would not install the BWP without it. It gave me, and my girlfriend, many good hours of playing one of the best games on the planet :) The hat is off.

@shadowlich
Not to bash your idea at all, but I must ask why you arent taking over the maintence of the BWS Beta instead of building your own application? The beta is perfect in many ways. I see no ways (from a users perspective) that it can be improved. But that's just me :)

And, another thought - you obviously care enough for this project to build you own installer - then, couldn't you take over simply the link updating part of the BWS Beta just temporarily, so that it does not completely die? So everyone could continiue using it, like it is now, meanwhile you build something else which would be more suitable to replace it.

I, and probably many more, would be eternally gratefull for that

I agree with D! Stop building, start maintaining :woot:

You cannot use the normal BWS-updates since those did not cover components, all mod-translations and used to overwrite files instead of patching. Thus I wrote a new update/patch-routine to save space and try to be more efficient.

Shadowlich codes in c#net (?) because he can use it and do more stuff with it -- more or less the reason why I didn't started to develop the batch-installer.
