Guys, i am having difficulties finding this thread when i need it. Maybe it should be pinned or something?

I am installing bws 20110501 right now. Results are following:
- Legion Of Hell was unavailable, i had to skip it.
- Imoen romance was unavailable, but i managed to download it from the same place after 15 minutes or so. Prolly hosting issues.
- Big Picture was not included in standard installation. I wonder if it is ok? I've heard it was pretty important mod.
- Widescreen mod configuration is not intuitive as for me. If i do not check the checkbox in BWS with widescreen customization it says that it will use default screen resolution or something like that. It is not obvious for me whether it will use my default desktop resolution or default game resolution, it turned out that if i leave that checkbox unchecked, BWS will not install widescreen mod at all. No good.
- Big World Install.bat frozen after like four hours, asking me to press any button. Unfortunately i do not remember exact stage, it was unpacking sounds, and when i hit a button it continued just normally(no errors or fails reported).
- Mod Add Deep Gardens to World Map failed to install. No obvious errors in big world debug.txt.

Check the pinned topics, there's more than a few links to the beta and this thread. I know, see I wrote this topic.

The BP is an encounter and general AI enhancement mod, which is exactly what the Standard .... tries to avoid, as they belong to the Tactical thing.

I can't seem to find the Ascension ToB mod in the setup. I also remember reading somewhere that it is advisable to install BWP (or was it BP?) version of Ascension, due to more bug fixes than the WeiDU one. Can anyone elaborate please on the whole situation with that mod and what is actually the latest version of it and why I failed to spot it in BWS beta?

Can you elaborate? I'm not having the same problems as you, I'm not missing half the mods.

I just used BWS_9-20110501.exe To install a game. I needed to start the installation about 5 times until I found the correct buttons to push. But finally I got the game installed.

Most of the mods I selected were found and over 70% of the the mod selections I made wee installed. There were a lot of conflicts in my choices. I have only had a chance to read the WeiDU.log file. The only disappointment I had was that I think TDD was not installed. After reading the WeiDU.log and Setup-TDD.Debug files I really cannot say if it was installed or not. The process took about 10 hours to complete.

Now for the problems.

#1..The game will not start. A DOS window opens and a message is there. I cannot read it because it disappears too quickly. Here is what I saw "ToEX: Throne of Bhaal Extender build.......". The game crashes, I get to send a report to Microsoft, and I am back to my Windows XP desktop.

#2..There were some choices I needed to make. I was lost without a manual to detail what each option did. When it came to resolving conflicts I really did not know the best way to handle the situation. I just guessed.

#3..I noticed that the order of new windows appearing was not the same each time I tried to load the game. My guess is that the choices I made determined the order of the installation.

All in all, I give this program a very high rating. It made the process easy. I assume that if I had not chosen so many mods, it would have been much faster. The only features I would like to see added are:

a..an action to prevent the user from selecting a conflict(and it may be there already).

b..a manual to walk you through the process of using the program.

Thanks for all the good and hard programming,

Tom

The Ascension mod is one part of the BP mod, it's in the tactical Compilation only in BWP/BWS, as it adds the Ascension mods challenges.
So you need to select the BP's component 14 or something...

I have been working the last few days so I could not get back to the game.

The last time I used BWS Setup, on the first page on the screen, I was given the option to choose the entire mod or select parts of the mods I wanted. A box also appeared after the box with the COMPILATION options. When I opened it I was given the option to select which parts of the mod I wanted to install. This time neither appears. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Nothing much, you just didn't go far enough.
As you don't need to select it anymore, it's ticked automatically... :P

I have just completed putting together a mega-mod game with bws_9-20110501.exe. It is one excellent program. I checked many of the debug files and could not find any errors.

The selections I made were almost installed as I wanted. The game starts right up and I will test how it works.

Two concerns I have with BWS.

The first is that it will not install TDD. I assume it is because the choices I made were not compatible with TDD. I do not know why I could not keep TDD and remove the offending mods. Does anyone know which mods interfere with TDD?

The second is that it added BP-Balancer. I am sure I did not select this mod. I do not know why it was loaded. Any ideas on how to prevent an unchecked mod from loading?

In my previous post the error I stated was my own fault. It happened because I forgot to put the CD in the drive. Another senior moment.

Some problems with bws_9-20110501.exe.

1) I cannot install both RoT and TDD. One is listed as STANDARD and the other as RECOMMENDED. I think I have installed both before with BWP Install program. Why is there a problem now?

2) I do not want BP-Balancer installed. bws_9-20110501.exe forces me to have this mod. Why?

3) bws_9-20110501.exe tells me I am missing Tales of the Deep Gardens 7.0, Vampire Tales 102, and CoM Encounters 105. Vampire Tales 102 is in the Big World Downloads folder. I checked and the latest versions of the other two. They are Tales of the Deep Gardens 9.0 and CoM Encounters 106. So if the earlier versions of these last two are not available, how can I add them to the game.

I will go and check for mods or mod components that interfere with each other. Since the group that created and supports BiG World Project seems to have the best and latest information about this, would you please recommend a place to look. I would help when selecting mods and components for a game.

Well, I will try again. Perhaps there is a spot I missed in bws_9-20110501.exe program that warns of the conflicts already.

Thanks for any help,

Tom

My apologies for the statement on RoT and TDD. I just found the post. I will go look into that post and see what it has to say.

Tom

I edited the ....\BGII - SOA\BiG World Setup\Config\MOD.ini file. Changed the version numbers for Tales of the Deep Gardens and CoM Encounters. Both were recognized and there were no problems.

A number of mods i have to go and download myself when it has finished finding the mods. Some are very hard to find. Modders need to update their links regular.

I think I finally found a way to install the MODs I want into a mega-MOD Tactic game.

First BiG World Setup was only partially useful to me. The reasons were that it forced installed some MODs I did not want and it deleted some MODs I did want. To me that is unacceptable. I really do not need someone else choosing the MODs for me. The very useful part of BiG World Setup is that it is very good in detecting and fixing severe conflicts.

Step 1.

Create a game using bws_9-20110501.exe. Select your mods and let BWS do its thing. Save the WeiDU.log file. (I print it out for easy reference.)

Then I delete the game and start a new game.

Step 2.

Unpack all the MODs into your game. I classify them as 3 types, Standard, Other, and G3. You can extract the Standard MODs right into your ....\BGII - SOA directory and they are set to be installed. The Other class are those MODs where the files are buried deep into a set of directories. You need to extract the MOD into a directory (it can be ....\BGII - SOA). Dig through the folders until you find the game folder, setup-exe, and setup-tp2 files then copy them to ....\BGII - SOA. Finally, there are the G3 and G3 like MODs. You need copy the MOD to a non ....\BGII - SOA directory, extract the files to that directory and let the installation crash when the MOD does not find the dialog.tlk file. Then copy the installation files to ....\BGII - SOA. It would be easier if the G3 type files put an option after they installed the installation files into ....\BGII - SOA to continue the installation or not. It would make it easier when the MODs need to be install in parts.

Now to edit the BiG World Install.bat file.

Step 3.

Start with a copy of BiG World Install.bat. Go to the "EDITING" section of BiG World Install.bat. With the WeiDU.log file, change all the commands to force install the MODs and their components. Fix the commands to install the MODs and components that were install in the BiG World Setup game. The WeiDU.log file will tell you which will install without problems. Then delete the MODs and components you do not want, if any. Add the MODs and components you absolutely want, if any. Note, that these actions may cause problems with the game.

This process took me about ten hours to complete.

Tom

Note: Some MODs were not found and not installed that are there. I assume that the problem is with the version numbers. With BWS, I had to edit the MOD.ini file. I am looking for a place in BiG World Install.bat that has that information.

Installed Tactics without a hitch!

There were only a few mods missing, like the 'IWD_Item_Pack' and few (minor) other.
But other that that it went smooth.

The silent Extraction didn't work on some mods, but those too were just a few.

Only curious thing was, that the install triggered the windows-explorer to open.

I got this error when I picked the adventure picks.

The extreme size of the debug file means that I can't open it or scroll it without freezing up my computer, but these are the last lines of text visible.

Setup-ShardsOfIce.exe --noautoupdate --language 0 --skip-at-view --quick-log --force-install-list 0 1 2 --logapp.
This may be caused by several reasons.

The following process could not be started:
Setup-SkooterTheNPC.exe --noautoupdate --language 0 --skip-at-view --quick-log --force-install-list 0 --logapp.
This may be caused by several reasons.

I'm going to try disabling that but I get that error, and BiP closes down meaning I can't access the debug log at all. I didn't make any changes to the preselection but I'm going to try removing the ones that give me issues.

Also, the Elves vs Orcs mod and Ribald's Genies don't seem to extract properly, so I need to do those manually, just a heads up.

Bleh, I'm going to register.

Okay back after some buggering about.

I've noticed that when I extract the problem mods manually with their installer/extractor hybrid, they go to c:\program files\Black Isle\BGII - SOA. Of course, Big World Project recommends not putting it into program files due to OS-related problems. This is probably a longshot, but this project would have to be coded to force the install directory to go to where BG2 is actually installed. A large amount of them do this, so once I extract them manually I'll run the install and cross my fingers.

This is just me speculating though since I don't know if BWP already does that, but it has problems finding the right files at times.

Also, during the install, there is no mention of it extending scripts, could that be causing problems?

I just istalled a Recommended EN version in separate BWP directory.
The only annoyance was it still asking for Baldur's Gate directory without a prompt.

I suppose this is a new version, at least it's the first time I see the batch process not opening an own window, though in the task manager there are some 3 to 5 cmd.exe running...

Haven't tried just running the Big World Install batch file just yet, will probably do so tomorrow.
