I did just that earlier today actually. I have a full, fresh, patched and working istallation stored away with new game begun there already. I will use the BiG World Setup.vbs this time then, although that means BGT (unless I missed something on the way).

Yes you have missed something... you can put a "-"(without the quote marks) to the BG1 directory and so avoid the BGT thing totally.

Right you are, thanks a lot. Installing with .vbs right now, full of new hopes

Just remember to exit the BiG World Install.bat when it asks the language, as it might bug out in the WeiDU.exe updates... and do the update manually after you have run one of the setup-*modname*.exe's to see if it will bug out, but do not install anything...
And then start the BiG World Install.bat to run the install(this might be already solved, but just in case, it's better be safe than sorry).

Ok, I've done everything you've said (with fresh install, quitting at language question and such). I also did replace that assassinations setup as it was told in another topic, I've installed Tactics version, just to make sure no fishy mod made its way into the installation, I've downloaded and unpacked everything via the vbs file, I had a completely fresh backup of everything and I've made sure it worked before I installed anything. And it's still the same.

I've also kept an eye on the installation process and as far as I was looking, not a single error popped up - so even if there was some, there were far from many. Everything seemed to be installed successfully.

It crashes when loading a new game after selecting the character. Somewhere nearing the middle of the bar. I can't see the error and I have no idea what causes it.

I just... :crying:

weidu.log, big world debug and installation.bat attached, but I'm not even sure there's any point anymore. I'm doomed :crying:

If you have a file called baldur.err, please attach it (or open it with Notepad and paste the contents :P)

Anyway, I'd guess this is the culprit:
Spoiler
Somehow, you don't seem to have all the IA packages unzipped (WITHOUT FILE PATHS!!! ... very important to note). Also, note the NOTE in the error :)
NOTE: Download all content from Spellhold Studios. Each content module is at
www.shsforums.net/index.php?autocom=downloads&showcat=98. Extract all archives
using the "Do not extract paths" option on the Advanced tab in WinRAR. Also,
make sure the "Destination path" on the General tab terminates in /content or
/restore after infinityanimations (there are no subfolders beyond that).
Either you manually extract everything from the link (without paths) into their respective folders (restore/content) or you skip IA (drastic option :() for the next install (which should probably the last one since this is the only hugely bad error now ;))

Anyway, 4 failed installs isn't bad :P Darpaek got his working after 8-9 installs or something  (and he says it was a learning experience )

I don't know why the infinity animations didn't install correctly. I've unpacked it using the Big World Setup programme.

Anyway - I'm actually installing same thing on my laptop now, without the IA, I'll see how that goes, as last time simply uninstalling that mod didn't work at all (although I had to break it since d0 quest pack somehow didn't get updated to the newer WeiDU version and broke the installation but whatever, having everything unpacked and what not it's just a matter of few clicks every install anyway. I LOVE these installers. I LOVE them  ).

That program is sneaky though - I've had to restart it around 3 times today while trying to download/unpack mods using it as it was always trying to weasel ItemRevisions in  Saving the list doesn't always work for me either -> some mods come back to be checked, some get unchecked, but that isn't any important issue. Just funny how IR seems to ALWAYS be back and shine

...I truly AM doomed (or blind, or incapable <_< ).

My changelog came back empty, and by empty I mean:

[WeiDU.exe] WeiDU version 21300
[WeiDU.exe] Using scripting style "BG2"

Mods affecting DW#DUWAR:

And no additional files were created. Should I add some " ", cases, dots or whatever? Sorry for being dumb, I really am

It all sounds like some dwarf/duergar files to me... I knew they will strike me back for my little-folk dislike one day.

No seriously, they come from SCSII, right? Will I have to debug/add dooooozens of them? Or does the problem lie somewhere deeper? In the other topic it was said that with this mod such things shouldn't be occuring and yet it's another one with dw prefix...

Someone should report this to the SCS forums (might as well be me ) but for now, you could either continue to changelog-copy-crash-err-changelog-copy ... But, I'd rather say, since this one's doomed anyway, stick with the other install for now

!!!

I decided to go by 3-times-lucky rule... And replaced that another file. Aaaaand... there is progress! It loaded the game, showed me my char and ONLY THEN did it crash (like 0,5 a second after loading). No honestly, this is getting more hilarious than frustrating each failure incoming

But the .err file doesn't give me a new file name, just the old ones...

I don't know why the infinity animations didn't install correctly. I've unpacked it using the Big World Setup programme.

That is why. BWS doesn't unpack it correctly or something. And if it wasn't installed correctly, it's probably going to choke on those duergar.

Attach your latest WeiDU.log or better yet, paste it in spoiler tags, so we can see if it's still semi-installed mods causing issues. Also, I still don't think you've ruled out defective media, if you haven't cleaned/descratched your disks yet. No real sense in troubleshooting or even trying to install if you haven't done that.

Well, you could have a look at the BiG World Setup\Logs\BiG World Unpacking Debug.txt if you are curious.
Also (if my reading of the code is correct), the component would not install if the files in the content-package were not present.

; =============== extract the additional files of Infinity Animations ===============
	$7za = $g_ProgDir & '\Tools\7z.exe'
	If IniRead($g_UsrIni, 'Current', 'setup-INFINITYANIMATIONS.exe', '') <> '' Then; but only if selected
		$Chapters=_CreateList('c')
		For $c=1 to $Chapters[0][0]
If StringInStr($Chapters[$c][1], 'IAContent') Then; and if the contain the content-identifier
				$Save = IniRead($g_MODIni, $Chapters[$c][1], 'Save', '')
				If $Save = '' Then ContinueLoop
				If Not FileExists($g_DownDir & '\' & $Save) Then ContinueLoop
If StringInStr($Save, 'Restore') Then; get the correct path
					$Path=$g_BG2Dir & '\infinityanimations\restore'
					$Cmd='"' & $7za & '" e "' & $g_DownDir & '\' & $Save & '" -aoa -o"' & $Path & '"'
				Else
					$Path=$g_BG2Dir & '\infinityanimations\content'
					$Cmd='"' & $7za & '" e "' & $g_DownDir & '\' & $Save & '" -aoa -o"' & $Path & '"'
				EndIf
				_Process_Run($Cmd, '7z.exe')
				If Not StringInStr($g_ConsoleOutput, 'Everything is Ok') Then _Misc_MsgGUI(3, _GetTR($g_UI_Message, '0-T1'), IniRead($g_TRAIni, 'Ex-7z', 'E1', '')&'||'&$Cmd)
			EndIf
		Next
		_FileSearchDelete($g_BG2Dir & '\infinityanimations\restore', '*', 'D'); remove the empty folders
		_FileSearchDelete($g_BG2Dir & '\infinityanimations\content', '*', 'D'); remove the empty folders
	EndIf

Code looks ok to me, too.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Also (if my reading of the code is correct), the component would not install if the files in the content-package were not present.

The main problem is that it does *not* install, but somehow it lets subcomponents be installed (even though they REQUIRE_COMPONENT the main mod component). And since those subcomponents use new animations, and those animations weren't installed - *kaboom*. I suppose if you used that same code for *all* components (not just the main one) maybe that'd work. I've addressed it from the WeiDU side too, but no harm in having a bit of redundancy for something that can cause a crash.

A secondary problem is I have not yet seen an automated BWP install that has the main component of Infinity Animations installed, so it's pretty clear the extraction routine isn't working, whatever it is.

A third problem is that both Aurora and IA have a final component that is marked INSTALL_BY_DEFAULT that doesn't get installed in batch mode. Luckily, this is unlikely to cause crashes though - it's just very helpful in troubleshooting such issues.

It's unlikely this is causing all the problems listed here though, such as nonexistant creatures from SCS2, but it could be that didn't install correctly either.

Well after one faulty installation on laptop (I've learnt to ALWAYS restore the backup if I had an installation broken in the middle and stop counting on "oh maybe it will work") the other one seems to be working! I've ctrl+f'ed the big world debug and there's just 3 "error" words in the name of the mods, so it seems like everything went perfectly. The game also runs, Irenicus comes, cutscene gives no issues. So it's either IA after all, or my Windows 7. Doesn't seem to be my disc, BiG World settings, mods or anything else that was crossing my mind.

I'd rather play on PC, but I may just as well play on the laptop so I'm all cool now. I can try to install IE here and see if it works - is the mod worth fighting for (and downloading these huge files?)

Na, extracting is no problem. I actually didn't see the Setup program first time around installing this time and extracted 130 mods by hand for nothing  Well if it's worth it, I'm gonna get it and try to install it!

Anyway it seems that my perfect installation isn't all that perfect - kinda lacks Check the Bodies even though it seems installed. Oh well, today's another day

EDIT: I've checked the weidu.log on that laptop and actually there's plenty mods missing. No wonder it works so well  I guess, back on the battlefield... Another thing learnt - don't trust a working game before you check its contents. And DO NOT rejoice beforehand :Poke:

HOLY SHIT! I think it *might* have actually worked! I've just been teleported to Candleekeep for CtB chores :D Okay I *KNOW* it's not yet time to rejoice, I will scream of joy just a bit when I reach the Slums, BUUUUT it's a progress. A definite progress! Will check if all the mods are present too later, but they *seem* to be.

/*For my own future reference, adding to the solution: FIRST changelog and put into the override dw#duwar.cre and dw#duarc.cre THEN install Aurora patch. Other way around, not so nice */

Although there were quite a few errors during the installation. Could someone please tell me if they're dangerous?

The game is also starting up pretty slowly. I mean the period between clicking an icon on the desktop and having the movies run. Is that because override isn't biffed yet? I can modt certainly live with it, I'm just afraid it might be some vicious symptom.

WeiDU.log:

Spoiler

Thank you heaps for all your help! I hope next time I post will be post of joy for things working out, not another set of bugs, but that would be rather surprising

Well, that's an (almost) flawless install there :D The stuff that errored didn't install, so probably won't be a problem :P

Yup. You can still use gen_biff by manually running its installer :) It's not gonna cause any problems now :D (any reason why you skipped it in the first place??)
