Hi, I installed bwp 8.3 with recommended mods selected, and didn't make any change on the install.bat, but whenever I enter Nashkel, the game will stop running. The area is fully loaded, movie are played, and I can even pause the game if I'm fast enough, but when the game resumes, it crashes. The weidu.log is in the attachment.

I tried all recommended, standard, and tactic mods, all have the same problem. (By the way, my Symantec antivirus software reports the following mods contain Trojan horse, so I skipped them: Item Revision, Kivan, Snakes, Kon tweak, Revised Battles).

I used BWP 8.1 and 8.2 before, and both of them are okay in that area.

Could someone please help me on this problem? thanks a lot.

If there are files called baldur.err, could you please open that up using notepad and post it's contents here?? :)

(By the way, my Symantec antivirus software reports the following mods contain Trojan horse, so I skipped them: ... Kivan ...).

That's known (along with Tashia Remix) but that's a false positive :) No worrying. About the others, Norton's being too tough here too :D

hi thanks for the reply. the baldur'err is basically empty:

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

I have the following lines in baldur.ini:
Cheats=1
Debug Mode=1
Logging On=1

Should I make any changes?

If you recently left Beregost, try the BeregostCrashFixer.jar which should be located in your installation folder.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

I tried both walking through Beregost, or skipping beregost and MoveToArea to Nashkel directly, or MoveToArea to adjacent areas then walk to Nashkel, none of them worked.

I was wondering if other people have the same problem with BWP, or is it just my own installation?

If needed, I can post more files.

thanks a lot

Did you start a new game after installing Aurora? If not, it's probably this. If you did, could be this too, since BWP somehow let you install Infinity Animations subcomponents without installing the main component (including one that should've been skipped if Aurora was installed).

If you can't get a message in baldur.err, see if you can at least get a screenshot of the technical code in the pop-up windows once it crashes.

PnP Free Action * Thrown Hammers * Unique Containers * BG:EE * BGII:EE * IWD:EE

It must be the second one! I always start a new game after the installation. I excluded aurora and all IA mods, and it worked! Next I will try a standard installation, excluding AI, and make a bit of tweaks on the install script; hopefully it would work.

As for the error message, what I got is quite general, something like "the program is stopped responding..." it doesn't give any useful information.

Anyway, Milock thank you so much!

After several rounds of installation, I found the problem was caused by aurora mod alone. Infinity animation is okay. Now I am able to enter Nashkel by skipping the aurora mod.

thanks a lot for all the helps.

That is only possible if you have v4, rather than the latest version (v5). Otherwise, it isn't caused by Aurora alone, but by installing Aurora and using a saved game where you've already visited Nashkel, which is what I first suggested might be the problem. What you describe suggests exactly that happened. It says not to do this in the readme (last paragraph in that section). If you're claiming you did start a new game, then attach the saved game that crashes, as well as your ar3700.are and ar3700.bcs files. If you've uninstalled Aurora though, those won't be terribly helpful. Also, Infinity Animations is *not* ok if you did not install its main component. If it doesn't crash there, it probably will somewhere else.

The Aurora I have is v5, downloaded by BWS automatically. I always start a new game after the installation. and I even removed the nashkel flag in the baldur.ini file. but having aurora installed always cause the problem.

Unfortunately, I have installed again without aurora, but included all of the IA components. At least I am able to get into Nashkel now. Since I have lost that error state after the new installation, I couldn't attach game files for you to debug. By the way, ar3700.bcs shouldn't be the cause, since I had tried to replace it with an almost empty script file, but the CTD doesn't go away.

Well, if you could humour me and reinstall at least the main component of Aurora v5, start a brand new game (again), then do a MoveToArea("ar3700") and try to reproduce the crash and another baldur.err log or (if blank) click on the technical data button when you get a pop-up window. And attach at least your ar3700.are file. If not, I don't know how to address it since I can't reproduce it and no one else has reported it. You can always uninstall it again and continue with your existing game after doing this.

I made another install with all recommended mods without any change (aurora v5 selected), and here is the saved game that will crash when entering Nashkel. It's a new game, and I bypassed Beregost.

I also attached the AR3700 files. But I didn't see the technical data button, I attached the error box, and when I clicked the Debug button, nothing happens.

Anyway, thanks for looking into this.

I can't find anything wrong with the saved game or the area. It appears to be the same one on my BGT install. Moreover, I can't reproduce the error with Aurora v5 by starting a new game then going to Nashkel. Works just fine for me.

See if you can do a CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("agkaraea"). If she appears, then it's not animation-related. If it crashes, then Aurora didn't install correctly somehow. That is the only creature we add to Nashkel. Are you using Windows Vista or 7 with the game installed to Program Files by any chance? Also did you have antivirus running while installing?

Can you attach your SETUP-AURORA.DEBUG file too please.

It did crash when creating that creature, so I assume it's to do with the animation. I attached the debug file. And I'm using vista, english version, but I set the non-unicode language as Chinese(Simplified PRC). The animation id of that CRE is "0x5266 SVIRFNEBLIN_DARK_NOAXE", and the prefix of it is 0x5266 µBP CGAMEANIMATIONTYPE_SVIRFNEBLIN_DARK_NOAXE. I think it might have something to do with that special µ character, which was handled differently under Chinese charset.

The game is installed at C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA, and I have Symantec End Point antivirus software installed, version 11.0.5002, but I've set the game directory in the exception list, which will ignore everything under that folder.

Any more information can I provide?

thank you very much!

Hello, my game crashed as well.

I currently have windows xp and BWP 8.3(Standard version)installed.

After it crashed, i have a small window showed something "......005ca8a8."(showed a small problem window on my screen).
i googled it and found "iaaurfix-v3" might be able to solve this problem, after successfulli installed it, still crashed.

Before i installed "iaaurfix-v3", i started a new game from BGII-SoA,i finished Irenicus's dungeon and went up to the ground, done with the chapter intro, it crashed to desktop and showed the same problem window like above. However, "iaaurfix-v3" did solve the problem this time. so i went back to Nashkel, still not working.

I tried to activate chapter3 by go to the map right next to Nashkel(forgot the name of the map, sorry), chapter 3 intro done well, and went to Nashkel mine, still run well, then went to Nashkel, somehow i could get in the map, but it crashed randomly either walking around or try to leave the area to world map.

Please help!!! Thank you very much.

Ok, well this definitely pinpoints the problem. I guess we should've found this out to begin with, though your English was fine so I didn't suspect it. I'm guessing samohtpan has the same issue (system non-unicode codepage set to a non-Western European language).

There is a workaround for this in the Infinity Animations readme (I guess I should add this to the Aurora readme too). Basically, set your codepage to English while installing mods and running the game. Or alternately, you can try this utility from Microsoft and use it to set WeiDU.exe and BGMain.exe to use Engish for non-unicode characters. You will probably need to reinstall Aurora unfortunately (since it apparently didn't install some animations correctly). Possibly you may also need to start a new game or use a save from before you visited any affected areas.

Hello,

Thanks for the fast response.

I am using the simplified chinese version of windows XP, so this could be the cause of the problem?

will try your suggestion, let you guys know if it works.

many thanks

Yes. I would try the Microsoft utility first, because it means you don't have to change your global non-unicode codepage, but you can make it specific to WeiDU.exe and BGMain.exe (the mod installer and BG2 programs).
