I feel im getting naggy here but then again whats a support forum made for right :)

well so heres the deal... im gonna start a completely new game with BWP 8.3 - i have played BG before and so now im only going for "more content"

And me not being in for the "overly hard" stuff, am gonna go with "Standard" (becouse "reccomended seems to few mods :P )

and to quote Leomar:
Standard-version
Herewith you can install all mods which have not an absurd degree of difficulty or known bugs.

So I got the impression that the recommended/standard mods are supposed to be the ones working 99% fine?

But when I look closely in the linklist for some information on the mods, it becomes clear that this is not always the case? or have I missunderstood something?
Im talking for example about shadows over soubar. In the official forum you can read about how buggy it is, and also on the german wiki: http://kerzenburg.ba...ows_over_Soubar which says right out that it cannot be completed without using cheats (im guessing this means console commands)

Now if this is true - why is it included in standard install? Or does BW Fixpack somehow correct theese things?

The reasons I want to know is becouse this will be the first time I play baldurs gate with mods installed, and I still want the immersion the game once had for me when i played it through "vanilla" - this means I probably dont want to use console commands to get over quests and the like...i just want the game to be stable as it used to be...only bigger and more stuff to do...you guys understand right?

oh and, if it is true, that mods in standard creates the need to use console and other such bizarre showstoppers (imo) then what other mods have the same effect? so that I can disable them beforehand? I can test myself of course, but the installation of theese things isnt exactly quick, and also the immersion tends to go away if you play through different buggy mods like 5 times :P

...

As I don't have any German language skills, I can't comment on what the site says, but the BWS uses it's own fixpack and other fixes(cre fixer, Resource Fixer) to fix stuff in old mods and it's not actually commented on the site that which version the description best suits, so it might have been made from the old stone age v1.
Yes, the BWS maintainers have said that the game should be ~99% bug free.

thank you Jarno :) I knew about the fixpack already :) didnt know it fixed things in old mods however :) its good to know.

And I also dont know german to be honest but google translate speaks a very clear language for once:
Numerous bugs make the mod a nuisance in many places because a progress without cheats or Shadow Keeper is not possible. Do an initial play through without a walkthrough is NOT recommended.

Also it goes on further down with poorly translated reviews that puts the mod down and gives poor ratings becouse of its immensely buggy playthrough. I also doubt the guide in itself refers to an older version becouse one reviewer seem to claim (very vaguely, couse of poor translation) that the developer has left the modding scene, leaving the mod in this wrecked shape (their words not mine) :P

So..someone can confirm with certainity this mod is working properly in BWP? :) Leomar? anyone? :)

Well I guess a few of the big mods were in there by request and because there should be people that request a fixed version. So far from what I read, it worked with the DTotSC and NTotSC-mods. TDD/CtB are not talked about that much, so they should be ok.

A recent NEJ2 was tackled by White Agnus some time ago, but he was too busy doing other fixes to finish that. Same with RoT.

The mod you talked about seems to be partly playable but the other's lacking.
Ah, and Leomar cannot provide you with a ingame-experience since he has not played the BWP.

BTW.: I cannot tell you more then him. After setting up BWP 3 (?) about 2 years ago, making an error and starting to build a little script for my install-problem, I have been playing the game for 2 or 3 hours. :D

Aha I see :D thank you for the detailed response :) I think it would be safest then for the experience on the whole to just leave out Shadows over Soubar and Region of Terror then, correct? (I wasnt going to attempt NEJ2 anyway)

this however makes one wonder a little about all the gazillion other mods that are included in "standard" - how am i supposed to know which works and which only partialy works? :o I really think thoose who are broken should have been singled out into the expert section maybe (until fixed) :)

Only the big mods are an exception.

Fair enough :) I apologize beforehand for being a tool here but do you know which exact ones of the big mods that are causing troubles until this day? :) or have some link for me so that I can do the research myself?

Please understand that this info is hard nowadays to come by for theese mods :( otherwise I wouldnt ask all this. I simply cant find any info on theese things.
