I did think of all pre-selections the BiG World provides to have a guess about the size. A minimum-guy will not need 40 GB of free space.
So I'd like to know about minimum / recommended / standard / tactic / expert just if someone has installed it that way.

Getting sizes will not work since you have to calculate download + unpacked files + backups + installed size. I really don't know of a good method to do that since these files will vary with the selected other mods.

As said in the current overview and some other topics here, the BWS does not support a component selection. Even if you add them, only the BWS would recognize them as selected but it would not edit the BiG World Install.bat, which will do the installation later and which is the file that you will have to edit.

Thanks for the clarification, Dabus. I did see mentions that it was not supported, but I was confused because the button is in the installer, and the GUI is all built. I thought maybe "not supported" meant that the component list was not auto-populated, but that if components were manually added by the user, that they might be integrated into the bat.

So, it's time for me to start editing the bat. I'll be looking forward to the next version of the installer :)

Ummm, the latest update to SCS seems to have changed some of its component numbers or something

Ok, I found this info lacking a bit :P At the start of the install.bat, you get to choose whether ya wanna install fun mods and unsuitable mods :D Well, if anyone's wondering exactly which mods are fun/unsuitable ...

  • Fun Mods
    • Cloakwood Squares
    • Skooter the NPC
    • Jerry Zinger Show
  • Unsuitable Mods
    • Exnem's Vault
... for now ... Might I suggest adding Adventures in Papperland, Mordan's Christmas Minimod and The Holy Hand Grenade to the fun mods??

And a glitvh in the guide  Tales of Anegh, LavaIt! and Mawgul NPC are still marked as "not in English" ^_^

Not to sure if this should be added to the instructions but... Be aware that when using Big World Setup many downloads are recognised as viruses trojan and ADH silly viruses etc... I was able to leave my firewall on, but I disabled my anti-virus auto protect (I use norton, I know its not the best already...) And I got my downloads ok. Now when you turn your protection back on the next time it does a scan it will remove your downloaded files and worse some of your extracted files in your BG-SoA folder for your big world install.bat! I had lots a probs with freezing in mid install. Looking at the forums and previous peoples woes on getting stuck in mid install it appeared that over sized set-up files caused the prob so... From experience these tips may help people like me... noobs who don't know any better basically!

Do a comprehensive scan with your virus protection, then turn off any auto-virus protect.
Then run Big World Setup
Check for setup files over 600k in your BG-SoA folder and remove them!
Run your Big World install.bat
Turn on your virus protection.
Enjoy the genuis of the modders at Spellhold and play BG!

Hope this helps at least one other person out there! Watching frozen screens for hours on end with the words "Weidu is re-writing scripts into BG2 style" at the bottom is enough to send you crazy!

May I suggest that instead of "unsuitable", you call them "unbalancing"? "Unsuitable" seems to imply that it contains unsuitable content, such as nudity, crude humor etc.

Also, I'd call the "fun" category "out-of-character". Otherwise it kinda implies other in-character mods aren't fun :P.

When I run the BiG World Fixpack, it's stopping at a point and printing this option. I can't find any descriptions of what to tell it to do:
processing fixes for "xpmod"

patching file `xpmod\functions\creature_xp.tph'
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n]
Apply anyway? [n]
Skipping patch.
1 out of 1 hunk ignored -- saving rejects to xpmod\functions\creature_xp.tph.rej

Next the zeroed offsets in all cre files will be replaced.

[WeiDU.exe] WeiDU version 185
WeiDU.exe: unknown option `--force-install

You need to restart the setup again, make it to re-extract all the installation files and when it has done that, exit the BiG World Install.bat when it starts to ask the language again. Something went wrong with the WeiDU.exe(setup-*modname*.exe) auto patching and so you have to manually start one of the setup-*modname*.exe's and then hope it updates the files correctly to WeiDU.exe v213's.
When that's done, you can start the BiG World Install.bat .
dabus knows these things better than I do.. so do as he says.

@Uaine:
You don't have to do that. The fixpack wants to patch some zeroed offsets and it fails since your Weidu is an old one. You have to replace the weidu.exe with the one from the weidu-direcory. Then start the BiG World Install.bat again. You will encounter some hunk-messages but don't bother because the files that should be patched are already patched since from the first run.

Can you tell me what's the last entry from the BiG World Setup\Changelog.txt?
This error should have been fixed since v8.3.0.

Methinks "joke mod" suits them well :)

Thanks Dabus, that was perfect. I'm glad I didn't need to go through the Setup process all over again!

What I think happened is that after I ran setup, I manually added a mod that I had left out in BiG World Setup. When I extracted it, the older version of WeiDU must have overwritten the newer one. Everything is working fine now.

Tried a standard install today, but stumbled over a few things.

BWS didn't find the downloads for the following links:
Bp-BGT-Worldmap v7.1 http://www.shsforums...ds&showfile=308
Baldurdash (BD-WeiDU) v1.6.8 http://www.fileuploadx.de/200392
Kiara-Zaiya NPCs (with translations) v1.6
W-GUI (Beta) v0.2
W-GUI (Beta) v0.3
Haiass el Lobo v 2.2

I checked the links for the first two (included them for others to find them more easily), and decided to leave the others out. I explicitly unchecked Haiass - I'll come back to this one later on. What I think strange here is that setup proposes two W-GUI versions, but as I said I unchecked both and hopefully it won't bother me.

Downloading went fine, then it came to the extraction part. Here is the list of mods that failed to extract according to BWS. I checked each of them, and got a little confused...

1.)
Improved Summons v2.02: The Mod itself (Improved_Summons.rar)
Heart of the Wood v6: The Mod itself (HeartOfTheWood_v6_.7z)
Weimer's Item Upgrade v37: The Mod itself (Weimer-ItemUpgrade-v37.exe)
Revised Forgotten Wars Item Pack (RFWIP) v1.0: The Mod itself (RFWIP.rar)
Vampire Tales v1.00: The Mod itself (VampireTales.rar)
Raziel NPC v1: The Mod itself (Raziel v1.exe)
Holy Hand Grenade v1.2: The Mod itself (HolyHandGrenade_v1.2.zip)
The Minotaur and Lilacor (Slandor) v1.5.1: The Mod itself (slandor1.5.1.zip)
MTS Crappack v3: The Mod itself (MTSCrappack_v3.zip)
Throne of Bhaal Refinements v3.21: The Mod itself (refinements_windows_3.21.exe)
Ding0's Tweak Pack v20: The Mod itself (D0Tweak_v20.exe)
-> seem to have extracted correctly, so what is wrong?

2.)
Divine Remix (DR) v6: The Mod itself (Divine_Remix-v6.exe)
The Stone of Askavar (TSoA) v1.5: The Mod itself (tsoaV1_5.zip)
Every Mod and Dog (EMaD) v4: The Mod itself (EMaD_v4_.7z)
Tales of the Deep Gardens v4.0: The Mod itself (Tales_of_the_Deep_Gardens_v_4.0.zip)
Rupert the Dye Merchant v2: The Mod itself (rupert_v2.zip)
Dragon Summon v1: The Mod itself (DragonSummon_Weidu.zip)
Song and Silence (SaS) v4: The Mod itself (song_and_silence-v4.exe)
Mod Kit Remover v2: The Mod itself (ModKitRemover-v2.exe)
Sword Coast Stratagems II (SCSII) v13: The Mod itself (scsII-v13.exe)
BG2 Tweak Pack (BG2 Tweaks) v8: The Mod itself (BG2_Tweaks-v8.exe)
Jarls BGT Tweak Pack v1.3: The Mod itself (JA_BGT_Tweak-1.3.rar)
Cursed Items Revision v3.3: The Mod itself (Cursed_Items_v3_3.zip)
Level 1 NPCs v1.3: The Mod itself (level1npcs-v1.3.exe)
Generalized Biffing v2: The Mod itself (the_bigg_biff.rar)
-> seem to have extracted correctly same as above, but tp2's are in subfolder, not in BGII - SoA folder? Does that matter for installing?

3.)
Realm of the Bhaalspawn Armor Set (RotB Armor Set) v1.0: The Mod itself (RotB_Armor_Set_v1.0.zip)
-> extracted correctly to BGII - SoA\RotB Armor Set v1.0, but the subfolder within extracted again to BGII - SoA\RotBArmorSet?

4.)
Sylmar Battlefield v1.025: The Mod itself (1Sylm.zip)
-> extracted correctly, but exe and tp2 are named 1sylm-setup instead of setup-1sylm - will they be installed anyway?

5.)
Wikaede Revisited (NPC) v4.1: The Mod itself (WikaedeRv4-1.rar)
Manual: The Mod itself (ERToB107.exe)
Manual: The Mod itself (Edwin_flirts_v0.1b.exe)
Moongaze's Kari (NPC) v1: The Mod itself (MoongazesKari-v1.rar)
Manual: The Mod itself (tb_tweaks_windows_2.10.exe)
Manual: The Mod itself (aTweaks_v263.exe)
Manual: The Mod itself (BardSong_BG2_IWD_1.3.rar)
Manual: The Mod itself (NMR_V1.5_and_a_compatible_patch.rar)
Manual: The Mod itself (p5tweaks_v3.rar)
Manual: The Mod itself (BP_Balancer_v0.33b_beta.7z)
Manual: The Mod itself (aurora_v3.rar)
-> where do those entries come from? The files are not in the download folder, no similar exe/tp2 either

6.)
Manual: The Mod itself (NTotSC_v171.rar)
-> the downloaded file is v170a, not v171?

7.)
Manual: The Mod itself (Bonehill_v245.rar)
Secret of Bone Hill (SoBH) v2.40: The Mod itself (BoneHill_v240.rar)
-> only one downloaded file, version v240 - do I have to install v245 it manually, if so, when?

8.)
Horace NPC (Beta) v1.71: The Mod itself (Horace_v1.71.zip)
-> zero size download

9.)
Haiass el Lobo v2.2: The Mod itself (haiass_v2_2.7z)
-> As mentioned in the beginning, I did NOT chose this mod for my install, because during download it said that the file couldn't be found. But it seems that not only it was found, it was also installed although I said NO

Most important to know for me would be whether the mods in 1.) and 2.) do work without any further unpacking, editing or whatever. 3.) will probably work, but I'm not sure about 4.) (thought I read somewhere that mods had to start with setup-...) Can't do much about 5.) and 8.), I hope there is no game breaking cross-mod-reference-thingy inside so I'll just skip them. 6.) and especially 7.) would be cool if I could get them to work, I really like the SoBH mod. So any infos about how to install the update would be nice :)

The BWS package from SHS contains the BWS 8.2.
There is a build-in update-procedure that fetches updates if they are available.
It seems like the update to v8.3.1 was screwed in your case.
Maybe you were offline when starting the BWS or your Internet-connection was created by your router or the modem you use is returning the ping slower then 1000 ms.

Please look at the end of BiG World Setup\Docs\changelog.txt to check the last version entry.
If it is indeed an old one (beneath 8.3.1), exit the install and start again.
Make sure it fetches the update-package. If it fails again, fetch it from here and extract the files into the BiG World Setup-folder.

This way, the chapter <=> mod relation should be ok now and link-updates don't overwrite false values and produce strange results like it did before.

You should delete all setup-X.exe files or just those that you did not select to prevent installations that you don't wanted.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Alright, I just had my installation freeze up. I traced the problem to Assassinations_v7.

Setup-Assassinations.exe is using the old WeiDU version. It needs to be manually updated to the current version, according to the method described in this other post:

Would that manually added mod be, by any chance, BDashv1.6.8?? ^_^

Anyway, just popping in to mention that the new MTSCrappackv3 has deprecated one of its components (shifting everything upwards by 1), so the install.bat might install something that's not intended to be installed ... but that won't be a problem ;) ... cause the .tp2 got renamed too :P so the BWP won't install it in the first place!

That was one of them, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway, I'm up and running now. I tested playing yesterday, and everything worked fine. Better get this thing biffed :)

I'll provide some more feedback if I run into other issues. Thanks for all your hard work!

3) The last stage of the instructions "Begin the installation" could be a little more thorough. I hit a couple snags and had to restart the vb5 script a few times and noticed the .bat could be restarted if you made a wrong choice. Also, it wasn't clear that "start your megamod" meant I should start the game normally; I spent some time looking around for a special megamod exe.

(I admit I lolled ) But yeah, he's kinda right :)

All right I changed this a little bit in the first post:

Begin the installation
  • Download the BiG World Setup
  • Execute the "BiG_World_Setup.exe" and follow the on-screen instructions
  • The whole installation could take 2 until 12 and more hours, depending on how many mods you chose and how fast your computer and internet-connection is
  • Start "Baldur's Gate II" and choose your game

5) The linklist and installer only give a short description of each of the mods. It's pretty daunting trying to figure out which ones you want to use with so little information. I'm not complaining, as having any information at all on so many mods in multiple languages is a feat beyond my contemplation. I'm just saying--if it's possible--more would be better.

Each mod-entry in the BWS has a button on the left side of its description and if you press it, you get to the mods main-homepage. There you can gather all the informations you need.

Greetings Leomar
A Megamod does not mean that you can play all of the mods or all of their content,
but you have more choices or paths through the game.

First of all, please accept my salute to all the heroes behind the BWP! Your hard work makes it possible that even lay person like me can experience what some of the best mods can offer. I strongly believe that it is the spirit of modding that separates pc from consoles.

Suggestion: the installation instruction in wikipedia form

Everyone can tell from the total # of pages in the installation instruction that how much hard work has been put into the project. I will definitely call it the bible of BG mega mods! However, due to the limitation of static pdf document and the nature of BWP being ever evolving, the form of pdf document is at huge disadvantage, not being able to reflect the latest changes dynamically, such as the newest version of mods, newly added or deleted mods, or some newly discovered bugs/solutions, etc.

My suggestion is to switch from pdf document to wikipedia. Even with my experience of wikipedia mostly as an end-user rather than a contributor, I believe most of the problem mentioned can be solved easily. Most importantly, wiki form allows Leonardo and other masterminds behind the project to outsource to the mass the busy work, such as updating the latest version # of the mods, proofreading translation, etc., that requires little technical knowledge. Meanwhile, they can focus on their energy on the technical level.

Of course, there are certain aspects that Leonardo and others should have absolute editorial control and should not be altered by anyone else, such as which mods should be categorized into the reccomended installation, etc.

Finally, thank you all very much. Your great work is sincerely apparected.

PS I'm a complete amateur of BG (about to play the very first time after finishing the installation today,) AD&D, mods, programming, and PC in general. All my understanding is solely based on the readings of the installation instruction and the forum in the last several days, so please bear with me even if I get the simple facts wrong:
