I finally got my CE today, I picked it up from the post office on my way home. While it's two weeks late, at least I've got it now. I hate EA though, I had to wait two weeks and there's no localization whatsoever to excuse the delay.

Yeah, although I'm trying to follow the Winter Olympic Games at the same time as I play ME2... oh well! :D

I started hating those intro movies that play when you launch the game, so I went out of my way to look for a way to disable them, and I found one. I thought I'd share it, so here you go:

  • Go to C:\Program Files\Mass Effect 2\BioGame\Movies
  • Find BWLogo.bik and ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik
  • Rename them to something like BWLogo.bik.bak and ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik.bak

Also, I managed to enable the screenshot functionality (no, it doesn't work originally, not for PC at least). Here's how I did it, use the instructions at your own risk as usual:

0. Find Coalesced.ini at C:\Program Files\Mass Effect 2\BioGame\Config\PC\Cooked
1. Make a back-up of Coalesced.ini
2. Open Coalesced.ini in Notepad++
3. Find 'bEnableMouseSmoothing'
4. Type the following below it: Bindings=(Name="F12",Command="Shot")
5. Save the changes to Coalesced.ini
6. Run ME2CoalescedEditor.exe
7. Locate your Mass Effect 2 root folder when prompted
8. Click the Rebuild Coalesced button
9. You can now take screenshots in Mass Effect 2

The screenshots you take will be stored at:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\BIOGame\Screenshots

Oh, hell yes.

Wish I'd known that before beating it, but still.

A gem from the Cerberus Network news reports - today it's a galactic news report on the human tradition of Valentine's Day, describing, among other things that participants "traditionally exchange gifts, love notes, and sugary confections in hopes of receiving sexual favors... The holiday is spreading rapidly among asari and volus, who favor its unusual mix of commerce and reproduction."

"The righteous need not cower before the drumbeat of human progress. Though the song of yesterday fades into the challenge of tomorrow, God still watches and judges us. Evil lurks in the datalinks as it lurked in the streets of yesterday, but it was never the streets that were evil." - Sister Miriam Godwinson, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

A note to those intent on pursuing the ME2 romances - always pick the top-most dialogue option or you are liable to get friend-zoned and not realize it until you hit the time when the romance should culminate and you get nothing. >_> Learn from my mistake.

Just finished my first play through, with a male solider, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is better than the original in every way, in my opinion.

Was able to save everyone and finished with 49/51 of the possible achievements. Have no real nitpicks with the game to be honest, though the lack of credits was slightly annoying and a few more side quests would have been nice.

Was happy to see the removal of the Mako as well. Scanning is rather tedious, but was a lot better than driving that flipping thing around the same planet for huge sections of the game.

I still haven't played the game much, as I'm following the Winter Olympic Games, and even that is proving somewhat difficult with the 10 hour time difference.

Finally finished my first playthrough, and... *wow*. I'm totally blow away. What Bioware promises, they deliver. Can't wait til ME3, and in the meantime, I'm going to start my second playthrough with my male Renagade Shepard... ^_^

Congrats! And this is exactly how I felt after my first playthrough. Really was an amazing experience in my opinion. You been on the official forums much though? ... There seems to be a lot of haters over there.

Actually too scared to make an account and say I liked the game for fear of being flamed to death! I'm obviously exaggerating, for comical effect, but still

The official forums are OK if you ignore 99% of the posters. ;)

The social site has great design, but the people are obviously Average Joe Gamers (read: idiotic) for the most part, that's just how it is.

There are plenty of smart folks around there too, but obviously they're in the minority looking at the number of registered users. Harsh but true.

Actually, no, I don't go much on the official forums. Too many posts, too much flow, and I just can't keep up with it. But yeah, maybe I should go and post a bit, if only to counterbalance all the haters... I really hope developers won't listen to them, because, well... wow. That final scene with the climaxing music was just *awesome*, and left me begging for the third installment. We'll just have to be patient, though... ^_^

At least with the old forums you could back your "Calm down you silly kids" with the fact you've been around for a while. But since these forums are new, you can't tell oldtimers who've been around since NWN or even Baldur's Gate (I've been around for both, but only registered some years after NWN. I doubt these forums even existed in the old form when Baldur's Gate came out) from the young kids that only signed on when Mass Effect came out.

This is the second time this happened to me. I remember when TLJ: Dreamfall came out, after which the "The Longest Journey" forum was expanded, and suddenly all those new guys signed on. That forum had been the first I had ever signed on, and it still holds a special place in my heart. But it no longer is the same, and only few if any of the old folks are still around. One of them even died, though that happened before the overhaul. :( Anyway, I miss the place.

Devs? Listen to fans? Nah...

j/k

They might pick up some ideas and see if they work, but like always, BioWare will come up with their own solutions, even if those solutions aren't exactly the best ones possible.

NOTE: Patching ME2 will reset Coalesced.ini, making it necessary to re-apply any modifications.

Enable Hardware Sound:

0. Find Coalesced.ini at C:\Program Files\Mass Effect 2\BioGame\Config\PC\Cooked
1. Make a back-up of Coalesced.ini
2. Open Coalesced.ini in Notepad++
3. Find 'DeviceName=Generic Software' and replace it with 'DeviceName=Generic Hardware'
4. Find 'MaxChannels=' and type '64' after it
5. Save the changes to Coalesced.ini
6. Run ME2CoalescedEditor.exe
7. Locate your Mass Effect 2 root folder when prompted
8. Click the Rebuild Coalesced button
9. You're done

Been playing around with the save editor to get up to much mischief, and I've confirmed a few things that folks may have heard: apparently, Tali and Legion were supposed to be recruitable much earlier in the game, as Tali has commentary on Horizon and on the Archangel mission, and Legion also has very entertaining commentary on the Purgatory mission. Haven't confirmed all the scenes, though. The editor also has Kasumi available to be edited in, though I haven't tried adding her yet - she's the speculated next DLC character, a human and extraordinarily talented thief who's mentioned in the Illium and Citadel news reports. From what I've been able to gather, she's another tech-focused character, possibly with some combat-type abilities.

Typical Cerberus if nothing else - the dossier file in-game but inaccessible except via cheating states that Kasumi has stolen from Cerberus and they aren't sure how she bypassed their security. As such, they send you to find her... and hire her.

We'll see how she actually turns out, if Kasumi does indeed come out as a later DLC party member.

Seen this on the bioware forums and youtube I think... If you try adding her into the game it causes errors, and might make your game crash. However, it is possible to have her in your party during the suicide mission. Her outfit and face appear to be nothing more than place holders, but the dialouge is there.

As for the Tali/Legion early recruitment, I saw some speculation on that being changed for the console. Kind of annoying, as I wouldn't have minded having to switch CDs more regularly (Yes, I'm a console player) but I actually like the structure of the game so it doesn't really bother me *shrug*

Some of the hidden dialouge is pretty good though, and I'm sure you cna find it all on youtube.
